Another Goodwill console pickup... and this one might be the worst one yet! I bought this brand "new" sealed Xbox 360 console from Goodwill, and I was hoping for it to be old and still on the blades dashboard, but Goodwill had other plans for us. It could go either way, but I think this one was just a matter of a clueless employee (clueless in terms of gaming) making the listing and assuming it was brand new because it was sealed with some tape. Like I could see my mom doing this with no ill intentions 😂

Got Chibi-robo for 95$…I was shocked on arrival because the disc was flawless as if never played and the case seemed new with at least 3 to 4 small scratches and no signs of age. Of course in classic fashion the manual was missing but oddly enough the other documents you find in the game case remained! All together it was in mint condition COMPARED to the previous copy i owned as a kid which i bought from Gamestop.

Nah, you paid crazy money for an original model XBox 360. Even if it was new, unless that's one of the newer Falcon or Zephyr chipsets, that thing is prone to RROD (oh nevermind, the one they sold you had RROD...wow). Get a model E.

Goodwill is becoming nothing but a scam. I was in my local Goodwill recently, and the prices are bordering retail, if not more.
Idk depends on which goodwill. I’ve been to some that only have garbage and at others you can get like 8 really nice items of clothing for $20-30 or so

Just like the car market. I was looking at a new 2023 Type R, and multiple dealerships are asking $5k+ over retail.
It depends on various locations I actually worked with a very young guy who was my price manager and he priced a item $400 instead of the $ 100 I mentioned ( it was originally priced at about 900 brand new I felt like that's too greedy for a company that gets stuff free overall.

This is why Goodwill's policy of sending all of the high dollar items to the Ebay store is bs. They don't really know what they're doing.
The entire business is kind of BS. They promote their "hiring of mentally handicap folks" but really, guarantee you it's because of the wage they can pay them. Closer to 0 than minimum wage. AND their entire inventory is donated... free besides labor costs of sorting and overhead of building/land/office/insurance etc. Yet they play up their "charity" image and what not. It's all pretty, underhanded in my opinion.

You wil always 100% of the time get your money back if you send the item back. No returns accepted or not, if they dont want a strike on their account they'll give you your money back.

Depends on the area. They have different districts/LLC subsidiaries.
The one in mid-Ohio like Ashtabula/Medina, etc. has a dozen or so stores with a rewards card and rewards points. lol.
Meanwhile the Goodwills down in Cincinnati are HOT. TRASH. Overpriced everything.
I've had the best results at Goodwills around Louisville, Kentucky. Super nice employees, great stuff, and good prices. lol.
Goodwill used to be a good place to get good deals. I used to spend a couple thousand a year before COVID. Now everything is overpriced.

Dang! Exactly what I was gonna say! I use to buy VCR's for like $4-$6, now $12-$15. Receivers $8-$10, now $20-$40. However, they were not priced by brands. The better brands were not priced any higher than the trash brands. Before covid there was some room to buy things for resell and make a decent profit. Now if its something you are buying for personal use there are still some good deals but if you are looking at reselling it not much room for profit.

Me too, got lucky, literally selling it on the sidewalk for like 5 bucks.
For testing purposes, I have revived red ringing 360s for about an hour, by removing the shell, disc drive, and plastic shroud that covers the heatsink, and going over it with a hairdryer for ten minutes (full heat). Then letting it cool and usually thats enough to find out what dash a console is on.
Just wrap it in a towel

Eh that damages the board in the long run. It only revives them by flexing the board enough to briefly get the flip chip to make contact.
If it's red ringing at all, get a refund from whoever sold it to you. Since unless you have the equipment and tools to reball and/or completely replace the CPU/GPU it's dead AF.

I had a feeling it was red ringed. In my experience I’ve seen it where a 360 red rings when it was probably a few years old, and the owner puts it away and it sits until the owner finds it again and gets rid of it. The low amount of usage explains why the usb door was still intact. And it was made before Late Falcon, anything before that are the common red ringers.
I hadn't used my 360 for like over 10 years n plugged it in last week. Works like a charm.

One thing you should do is look up the specific Goodwill who shipped it. Some are so bad (the Florida ones have some of the dirtiest systems) and a few are amazing.
Ones in Florida are pretty much shady as heck. I have seen the employees leave with the DVDs and games and the store is left with the pottery and glassware only grandparents buy.

It is possible that they could’ve done this intentionally, maybe they taped the box up

Yikes, that red ring brought back bad memories, I had like almost 3 360s that had that problem. After getting PS3 (still works today) I never went back to Xbox
That sucks I only had 1 red ring. But Microsoft sent you a new console absolutely free so I didnt lose out on anything but a couple weeks of gaming, Microsoft could've not offered refunds but they did, I remember when the yellow light of death happened w Sony they remained silent and offered nothing and tried sweeping it under the rug I stand by Microsoft. Glad I did cuz the 360 was the best console in my opinion, but honestly I feel like rn Xbox is starting to fall off, which is why I got a PS5 ,back than Xbox live was the superior service, now they are pretty much tied , but I prefer PS cuz I'm sick of ads on my dashboard on series S, playstation is definitely a GAME CONSOLE whereas Xbox is more of an entertainment console .

I member playing ultimate Mk3 like a week or 2 b4 release on 360 because MS accidentally released it ahead of time then pulled it. Who members that? Also memba MS had a policy that all the arcade games had to be less than 50mb or less to fit on mem card or somethin early on in 360 life. They then lifted it to 150mb but im not sure when they lifted the cap on that size as well.

I dont think it was a scam. Goodwill just doesnt know what half of the stuff that comes across their doorstep is. I once got a perfectly working white Destiny Limited Edition PS4 console for $18 because they thought it was a DVD player and labeled it as such.

Man, it’s like those numbnut sellers on EBay assuring the item is new and sealed when the pictures they provided are as clear as day clearly shows the items OUTSIDE of the package. So it is certainly NOT sealed, and 100% used.

Jeez I have a working 360 I got from goodwill for $40. Disk tray struggles sometimes but persistence gets it open. At least it doesn’t have RRoD. I can’t believe people are spending $300 on a broken 360. I need to hold on to mine I think I got value here lol. It’ll be the family heirloom.

You can find stuff on goodwill that is actually tested now, but it sells for so much that it’s not worth buying from goodwill. Just buy on ebay
Everything I've bought from goodwill has been decent except for some cases with broken plastic on parts you couldn't see in the pictures. If you buy something you don't like just open a return.
Skip the established shops and go Ebay or go to conventions.

you can fix the red ring permanently by replacing the old gpu heatsink with the newer heatsink.
half the reason the launch edition consoled overheated was a poor heatsink, microsoft replaced the
heatsink with a new one that contained a secondary heatsink and heatpipe.
This is incorrect, flip chip failure from thermal cycles, not bad cooling, caused the red ring of death.
Cooling mods don't help and only make the console louder. Replacing heat sinks make it quieter but won't really lower your temps much.
Thermal paste replacement is necessary though.

I’m leaning closer to honest mistake. I’ve met people that will try and sell something thinking it’s genuine because they don’t know what to look for. Could be the workers didn’t know that that way of tapping the box isn’t the original.

I’ve subscribed for years now, and all of a sudden I see all these unboxing videos published 1 month ago. You must have done tons of unboxings in December
The free demos is the whole reason I got Xbox Live. I got my 360 in 2007 and played offline for 3 years, and then had Xbox Live with no gold for a year just playing demos and messaging friends. Then I went to my cousins house and he had MW2 and Xbox Live Gold. We played that for the entire weekend, only sleeping maybe 4 hours. I had $150 I'd saved up from Christmas and Birthdays and begged my grandma to take me to gamestop the entire week.
She eventually caved and I got MW2 and a year of gold. The rest was history, my childhood consisted of getting home from school and playing COD until I had to go to bed.
I'm not proud of it, but I even took my sisters iPod and sold it to gamestop when staying at a friends house to buy MW3 when it came out. She thought she lost it. I told her a couple years ago now that we're adults and she called me some names but laughed it off.

Why is it so expensive? Who is bidding that amount of money on a 2005 XBOX 360? You can find them on eBay for less then 50 bucks. Heck, for that money you can even get a brand new Series S (but that would not make a nice video).
Edit: My mistake, a HDMI port. So it is at least a Zephyr from 2007.
Remember kids, always confirm the Power Brick included is the proper voltage.
Also check if there is a disc inside while its on before you raise it up or tilt it.
Sad you had this dilemma, I bought 2 from the Goodwill for 12.99 and the other two for 9.99 and head better luck. No issues but had to get power supplies that ended up costing more than the consoles themselves.
But before anything , make sure to not buy junk like this. For 300 bucks you can get an Xbox Series S instead Kids.
As far as Demos go i feel like PS1 when pizza places were giving out demo discs with every pizza was the Golden Age. Demo discs from either Dominoes or Pizza Hut are where i first played Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider 2 & Parappa The Rapper.
Random story;
I had the ring of death once on my console, than had it on the one they gave back to me fixed a year later, called them back and they asked me when I purchased the console, I fibbed because I knew if I told them a week after launch Warrenty would be gone…. I sent them mine and they ended up replacing it with a new one… which was deserved… a Roomate ended up stealing it from me with a huge 1,500$+ game library anyways so, sucks but I got some good use out of it; still have my original Xbox I left at my parents home before I moved out that I hope still works… never got the new xboxX because I just don’t game much as I used to; I got a “gaming computer” 5 years ago with a 1660 GTX and I never played it as much as I thought I would have (who knew it’s much more fun to play games in bed on a controller rather than on a computer chair with a blanket) lol

You could have guessed it would go wrong just by the look of the packaging on the picture... but did you really purchase it without afterthoughts? I wouldn't bet on that.
Likely scammed. Sorry. Our local Good Will used to have some decent deals for electronics. Most recently they hired on a guy that does their electronics and he's a disaster. He is a retired salesman/tech for an old school TV shop.
His idea of pricing would be to go on ebay and see what people are selling stuff for, and then use that for the store price. (You rarely get what you ask at first on ebay, that's why most use the 'best offer' button)
We gave up after he put an AV receiver on the shelf.... We tested it and found a dead channel. He started to blame us for not knowing how to use it. (my wife is an audiophile...we have nothing but working vintage audio all over the living room...reel to reel players, turn tables...etc...) He priced it at $79 bucks... And I bluntly told him it wasn't worth $10 as I'm an electronics tech myself. (that really pi**ed him off)

My wife works in the mental health field, and she works with our regional Goodwills a lot. And she said that a lot of the Goodwill auction sites are run by regular Goodwill employees, a lot of whom have mental health impairments... That is a pretty good explanation for this listing being totally incorrect, BUT, I don't think Goodwill should just leave this kind of stuff to just anyone, especially since they are asking TOP market prices for this stuff..

In my experience, their shipping prices are pretty typical (most of the time), but then a lot of the goodwills will also tack on a handling fee, which then makes it expensive
