The problem is that you are not allowed to sell phones with both Ubuntu and Android, so in order to sell Ubuntu, they would have to not sell Android. On the Pinephone, that's not an issue, because it isn't based on Android. But in order to use a proper Linux system, you have very limited hardware to choose from, because the manufacturers won't release their drivers as open source.

The auto focus on my DSLR has never been very good, realistically I should just buy a mount for my phone and look into using that

I didn't understand half of what you wrote. :) But on the Pinephone, you can just switch out the micro-SD card and reboot to switch to another OS.

apk's yes but they wont run great, screen recording might be possible but would have a awfull framerate
