- Revv makes my favorite amp ever, the 100P. The G20 is a smaller, more affordably priced version that also makes an awesome home recording rig!

About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.
Thanks for checking out my channel & please subscribe!
Compared to the 120w generator, yes the price is low.
We all can agree that the word ''affordable/budget'' only counts on gear thats lower than 500$
For some, that's still pretty damn high. It's all relative. Adulting really sucks sometimes.
I'd say $800 for instruments, personally, but yeah. For amps when you hear affordable you think MAYBE $550.
gear less then 500 is like buying harley benton ..glary crap....times are a changing
Thats about it for me too. Damn Ima bout to just build my own for the price. And Im not needin no nuclear Bells and Atomic Whistles.
Budget and affordable are relative terms, always have been. To me by comparison this really is a budget amp, and I think I like it.
Affordable? I'd laugh if I wasn't crying.
Hey man, a Mini Rectifier + loadbox that loads IRs would cost you way more.
This is a killer price for what it contains.
@@idanshahar For what it contains, yes. But affordable, just like about every concept on Earth, is a relative term.
Idan Shahar but you juste forgot that the title says « affordable REVV » and this lunchbox amp is just more expensive than the D20. So.
That sounds totally fantastic,
What else in this price range can top it? Nothing
I'd cry if I wasn't laughing...Rev has all the guitar gear youtubers under their thumb
$180 Harley Benton SC Custom
$100 Scarlet Solo 3rd gen audio interface
$30 Cheap studio reference headphones
$800 PC with Reaper, a couple of paid plugins, IRs + all the free stuff
You'll still have some money left for beer, strings, cables, picks
SveZauzetoMajkumu all made in China. Have fun.

ok
Price out a 100p and you’ll see what I mean
Right? I was thinking, "Oh cool another budget amp to compliment my Zombie, I might just nab one even if it's a bit more expen- WELL F*** ME."
crypto 1300 is not bad for a really good amp
@@SpectreSoundStudios Price out an F1 car, and youll see how affordable the Ferrari production models really are! Therefore, the Ferrari FXX is ACTUALLY an affordable vehicle for those on a budget!
:P
Im willing to concede that language changes, Ill just complain about it.
@@SpectreSoundStudios see bass players are not the only ones without jobs or cars. Peace!
For what you get it’s absolutely affordable. Im really excited for this. It sounds fantastic and u dont have to go out of the way buying other pieces of gear to silent record.
This video helped convince me to go ahead and pick this bad baby up. thanks for all the kickass vids that you do. IMMENSELY helpful!
Really enjoy the clip from Strata guys! Their playing is so powerful yet inspiring me to make more musics.. Keep them up Glenn! \m/
I'm going to hold out and see what Peter came up with for the Diezel VH Mini before I consider this. I do like the fact that Revv partnered with Two Notes for the internal load and cab sim. I don't use their stuff so far, but I like what I've seen of their software--much more user friendly than a lot of stuff out there.
Some of you are complaining about the price and comparing it to USED Chinese made amps. Not the same at all. This is all tube brand new made in Canada! This is comparable to Marshall studio series or Mesa mark v 25w.
slowly waiting for this amp (like other products every once in a while) to make it’s way across all guitarists on yt im subbed to as usual lol
Dude I just saw you on the new Steel Panther video - heavy metal rules ! Awesome !
Can you grab a Joyo Firebrand?
Everyone reviewed the zombie etc. When they launched but have since forgotten about them. They released a new one based on the Engl fireball and would love to see a good channel review it!
I'll second that
I remember seeing the announcement for the D20 and finding out it had all those amazing features but it was only clean.
I was devastated to see such amazing features on a non-metal amp. Also in the review I watched, the guitarist in question tried to convince high gain players that this is still the amp for them and that it's not a waste to spend the extra $500 for Revv pedals.
I did the good service of calling out that bullshit and how it would be more cost-effective for me to just get a Generator 100 or full-size 5150iii/6505. He tried to dispute my claim saying that I just "missed the point of the amplifier" and not every amplifier needs a high-gain channel.
I'm so glad they finally put out this amplifier to finally bring these great features to us high-gain players and show up that guitarist who grew too soft for real high-gain playing. I really hope no one fell for that pedal-platform shit and didn't waste their money before this amp is launched.
Lore4697 actually the D20 wasn’t made for high gain players. It’s based off the Dynamis head, which was built for the Nashville market, that’s why it is called D20, and the G20 is based on the Generator. That’s why you didn’t see the D20 on Glenns channel. Fluff and Trey asked to do the demos on them :)
These portable, versatile tube amps are my thing. Ever since I started using my Laney ironheart studio I don't consider buying big tube amps anymore. No point when I know I'm not going to play in a band or make my own music. These give you so many more options
I think one of the points that gets missed between this amp and others mentioned is that this amp has the two notes system built in.
That tune you made for the full mix was fucking ace, great production.
That thing sounds awesome! Finally a mini metal amp with 6V6s!
7:36 - I just had a Pantera moment there... good shit.
7:36 and on... that drummer us on fire! Solid fills! The guitars sound awesome too 😆🤘 sorry
Dude i had no idea they had these lunch box amps... i might get this one down the road. Thanks for the vid!
The mix sounded awesome. That solo!!
This definitely looks like the best option for a hybrid approach to recording!
To everyone complaining about the price. They will charge what they think they can get. If you want it at that price you'll pay it. Otherwise you won't have it. Maybe you can get lucky on the second hand market, maybe not. They're a small company with quality products that are in demand. A good combination. This helps to keep them making amps in the future. If not enough people buy it they will kill it, or lower the price to keep it selling. Either way, they will find out soon enough. So be patient, buy, or don't.
I'm glad the Revv rep was there, because in their official info/specs they do NOT mention it is modeled after the Purple channel which is the main reason I passed on buying this. I'd pick up one of these "cheap/affordable/budget" amps if I saw some official documentation of that Purple channel. Also, how does it compare to the Revv G3 pedal?? If the pedal is just as good, or pretty frickin close, at $229, the pedal is way more budget friendly. Anyway, great review...I always enjoy and learn from your videos.
Sounds great in the mix
There's some parasitic hi-freq overtone when demoing on about 06:30. Is it something resonating in the room?
Stanislav Kogan might be the strings behind the nut or bridge (edit: i listened back and i think this is it), i thought it occured in the beginning as well. Or maybe its the clip on tuner, those make noise from time to time as well.
I agree with others, I think its the strings rattling. If that's the case, one of the best examples for strapping those down I've ever come across.
Hey Glenn! Swing by the Positive Grid booth and check out the new Spark amp. See if they’ll let you borrow one for a fearless review. At just over $200, it seems like a decent practice amp with bias FX.
To mirror other comments, I would hardly call this affordable. That isn't a dig at you, Glenn. You can get a used 5150 combo for half of that. Maybe you could check out the Bugera G5 infinium? 250 bucks for a tube amp that you can record with - adjustable wattage switch, if I remember right... .1, 1, and 5 watt switch. PERFECT for the bedroom metaller!
Man I dig this new Revv - the problem is that these new amp sims are just amazing, and they cost less than most pedals. I haven't touched my tube amps in weeks, and I think some of my amp sim recordings actually sound just as good as some of my 5150, Recto, 6505, and ENGL tube tracks.
Good seeing you in Heavy Metal Rules man🤘🏿🤘🏿
Ever tried a port city cab? Dustie waring from btbam uses one and there pretty unique.
Thanks Glenn! Full band mix was cool. See you at NAMM!
This Revv G20 was awesome!!!
That lead tone is JUICY. Very Dimebagesque
*Spotted you in the Steel Panther's video Glenn. Congrats*
Just saw you in the NEW STEEL PANTHER VIDEO, congrats dude that's awesome!!! What a killer surprise haha
I still wouldn't necessarily call it affordable. For Revv it's affordable but there's definitely cheaper amps that are really amazing. EVH 5150III, Marshall DSL 40, Peavey 6505, Bugera 333XL, they're all cheaper. This thing sounds incredible though, great demo Glenn!
I am definitely going to get one of these!
Pedal platform amps make way more sense for bass where you're generally going out of your way to get the cleanest and purest sound from your bass (and then mix in a second channel with a metric fuckton of gain and/or fuzz).
Speaking of Revv on a budget (sort of)...
Have you had a chance to check out the Revv Gen model on the Helix yet? They have modeled the Red channel of the Revv Generator (and are planning to do the other channels in later updates.)
What was the intro recorded w/? To me that sounds ten times better than the Revv.
Glen!!! I saw you yelling at Lexxi in the new Steel Panther video! Legendary!
about time someone caught up to the grandmeister features...*almost*. If I liked the H&K sound, it would have been the perfect amp for me, but alas. If the MH version of the invective had at least included Midi control, I would have bought that. Looks like I'm saving up for this.
When's the next oldies but baddies coming out!!!! The first one was amazing. Need to do another. I'm sure it's time consuming but some incredible stuff came from it!
Killer amp! I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but, how is the Slick Audio laptop and or PC working? Inquiring minds would like to know
Fucking amazing, that’s how!
Glenn think you need some foam under those strings you can really hear them
Lol... The TH-cam notification about your vid came just as the outro was playing... xD
Interesting. But the 20 w might be cathode biased (not sure, but usually if they have 6L6 or EL34 and they are less than 30w or so, they are probably cathode biased) which means it has a sweeter sound than fixed bias (Mesa, Marshall, etc, pretty much all amps 50w or more). I have my eyes on the new Marshall Origin 50h, basically a modern plexi with a built in variac, and all for the price of a Bugera amp, pretty amazing! I think this Marshall will kill most other amps for a good while
Great sounding thing for studio use. I had a low watt thing for a while but found 20w just wasn't enough volume for outdoor live use if there was no PA (I do some instrumental stuff like that)
Looking good how's the clean headroom tho
if I'm going to connect it to my audio interface should I use the xlr or the speaker output with the load option?
This is an amp that I would buy!
that amp sounds killer . I am going to check it out when it's for sale yo ! Also guys - this amp is more about quality of that sound it put's out - not the power
Looking good there Glenn! Keto!!!
5:35 is that Satsugai from Detroit Metal City ? If yes, glad to be in the presence of a man of culture.
MAAAAAAAANNNNN I need one !!!!!!
What wave of friend is better? I guess the rev g20, that this great prs mt15, although I suppose that for the price it will be normal to be superior, don't you think?winner hi gain?
I would love this amp without the two notes in it. Be interesting to know how much that jack's up the price
Hi Glenn! I'm trying to decide between 2 studio monitors and I'm wondering if you can help me out with a suggestion?
It's between the Presonus Eris E5 XT, and the Kali Audio LP6. Have you ever heard the Presonus Eris E5 XT's? And if so, do they sound better than the Kali Audio LP6's? They seem to be much better build quality and have more control over fine tuning.
Which would you recommend?
*costs 1,300 dollars*
Oh yeah, this thing totally fits the bedroom budget
Hey: AUDIO ASSAULT
Now that fits a bedroom budget
For people saying it’s expensive... well it is lol it doesn’t mean that you can’t find it for a yay percentage off through deals n what not.
Hey Glenn, surely you've grown as an engineer now since the time you created your channel. You should re-make your intro song the way you would make it if it were today.
So wayne's world reference. Nice
The severed heads from Revv are substandard.
Marshall is my go-to severed head.
Rick Quist that’s subjective, I personally won’t touch a Marshall with a 90 ft pole lol

What midi controller do you use to trigger your drum samples?
Just saw you in the music video for heavy metal rules by Steel Panther!!! :D
Nice amp love to have the full sized one.
Love the Ska strap!
You can really hear the string chirp behind the nut while you are playing. Might need to put one of those hair ties on that guitar. Or, is the amp making that noise? Microphonic tube?
It's definitely the guitar, it sounds similar to when you hit the strings behind the nut with pick
All the people whining... Yes it is a lot of money but considering it's Canadian made , sounds awesome and packed with all these features, it's WELL worth the money.
I WANT IT!
Sent you a G20 and Derek divine bovine that’s kewl 🤘🏽REVV Rules 🤘🏽

You upload this like 2 hours before your big cameo in a Steel Panther video!
Hey man, I would love to get your take on the hotone ampero. Congrats on the weight loss. Trying Keto because of you and Headbangers Kitchen.
"If there's a severed head in here I'm gonna be very upset." Nice Wayne's World refernce.
Hey Glen, this is completely unrelated to this video. I just thought I’d let you know my band has a group chat with and without the bass player lol
so affordable i will buy 2 to make a stereo rig
Hello Glenn,
You are the best metal technical guy.
According to you, what the "Beyond Metal" can sound ?

So I know that these micro amps are said to be loud enough for band practice but are they really. I have the orange micro terror and although yes technically I could use it for practice. I don't know that I would be totally happy with the tone and it would be screaming the shit out of it in the process. I am desperate for a revv amp but the gen 120 is a bit out of my reach. this however would be ok
Hey, AxeFx chumps
This was cheaper and it has that one and only setting you use on your AxeFx, except it’s twice as good and it’s REAL
saving up my money now... so far $200 in the kitty another 1000 to go...i just want this for home recording...sure beats the iridum
4 guitars a sweet banjo (used) and a katana mkii head with vintage 30s probably sitting around $1000. I like the sound of revv stuff but even if I wasn't broke I'd go in a different direction
1,299!!!?????? Nope. Im getting Bias FX
Reminds me a bit of the Laney L5, but with more options.
What advantages does this motor car have over say, a train? Which I can also afford.
This is the same audio from the invective demo?
No. Sane music, reamped through the g20
At that price they'll sell 1....probably to Glenn 😂😂
What's the end address mic? It has a really detailed sound for an end adress mic.
The first condensor is obviously the lewitt but the second mic isn't?
Lauren audio. Demo coming soon!
That second riff reminds me of Black plot by high on fire
Can you please do something with the Rockman headphone amp? Dave Mustaine and many others swear by it.
waynes world reference i see you glenn
I bet the C-Blocker must work wonders in front of it! ;)
It does...lol..Trey Xavier put his review up last night while using the cock blocker with it.
Not to be a dick, but FUCK the string ring was clear in this video. Get that guitar a jimmy clip or something. Aside from that small issue I'm overcomplaining about, the amp sounds great!
Nice Steel Panther Cameo Dude....
That guitar needs some foam at the nut and bridge.
£1200 affordable? Sake man!
Affordable for a Revv!
Not sure about the reason for this, at that price when established brands already have these micro options at the same price.
Do other micro amps have Two Notes Torpedo inside?
@@TooManyEyesJoe Not sure what that is, I play for a hobby so I don't need the extra gimmicks.
