- Can This Doctor Work Without Prescribing Drugs? (Medical Documentary) | Real Stories
Dr Chris Van Tulleken is embarking on a daring medical experiment that could change the way we think about our health forever.
Britain is addicted to prescription drugs. They’re doing us more harm than good, the evidence for their efficacy is wafer-thin and they’re costing the NHS a fortune. It’s a medical crisis - and Chris is determined to do something about it.
So he’s setting up a radical new drug-free clinic in a busy GP surgery. For three months, he’s going to treat illnesses without antibiotics, control pain without painkillers, and wean some of Britain’s most drug-dependent patients off their “life-saving” drug regimes. Instead of giving his patients medicine, he’s going to take their medicine away.

This Documentary should have gone viral!! I'm in the US and this country has created drug addicted, homelessness, mental health disorders and these people have been thrown to the curb like rubbish. Chris, Thank you so much for this!!
@dawnjackson2190: love your comment about the US causing consequences for people later thrown to the curb like rubbish. Plus they are criminalizing those unhoused for resting in public. It is insane what they get away with
Agree 100%
On October 5th, 2017 my son was in an accident at work and was admitted to a trauma hospital far from home, so I stayed in a hotel to be near him. He stayed there until mid December and in that time I lost 65lbs just walking the 3 blocks between hotel and hospital multiple times a day. The weight loss has been so helpful for my chronic pain that I've managed to wean my painkiller (opioid) dose down to half of what it was. Walking truly is a miracle drug and I feel like crap if I don't get my daily walk or some form of exercise in.
Hey good for you - does seem like a miracle :) laughed when you said you feel like crap if you dont get your walk. Walking is fabulous for everyone and also you only have to glance sideways to see how unhappy a puppydog is if not getting excercise physical play and a nice walk. My sister has an inside house doggy who gets very vocal if her daily walk is delayed. Walking must be very good for all of us.
What about your son is he okay ??!
you know just simply being outsude with yoyr barefeet on soft soil and sun on yoor skin. if i dont get that its so uosetting and ..my windows are open 24 hrs all year around yes even winter it open only a small amount but if the windows are close i feel like i cannot breathe.
yez i was antidepressants for three years and it made more mentlly aggressive. growing up there was always some traumtic drama is life until moving my daufhterss away and i dont remember what got got .me im cpuncilling but i had yo do thag several times in my life once i was going to get kucked out of high school if i didnt commky some time counciling that was extremely unsuccessful that just showed me my life situations were not normal people don't tent to have to go through such experience. Now I won't hurt a fly the king mosquito I make a great effort to release it outside but that's cuz I know the king mosquito eats the smaller ones. I do the same to spiders but on those anti depressants I was almost near manic aggressive rage my Dr. Gave psych meds which did nothing but makes me more aggressive. As much I like that new ""buzz word" we are one my people have been saying this for years anyway it's a nice thought but me being native a dr. Solution is not going to have the same effect as his normal everyday patients each race of people are different and I just took my self off this stupid medications even he said it could sick if I stopped taking them but I just simply stopped eventually all the pills was building up so much I asked them to just keep them I don't need them
@@aprilm.wemigwans-mezimegwa541 You’re on the right track! Stay off meds! Google 8 laws of health and follow them! They have done wonders for me, mentally, physically, and spiritually! Blessings!
Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death.
While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the WW1, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes.
Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way.
It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. You do not “catch” disease from others. A lie told for 100 years never becomes the truth. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......
Massive respect for every single person involved in the making of this documentary.
I love this doctor so much. you can tell he truly cares about his patients, and is also humble enough to admit he could be wrong about things. this humility is criminally missing in almost every doctor I've seen
Your insane! This Dr is an egomaniac who believes opioids are a curse when in reality when taken properly are in line with medical marvels such as Dr. Salk’s amazing polio vax. Shame on him & I hope he gets his med license stripped bc he’s not intelligent enough to be a mailman no less a Dr & his stat that drugs like morphine & oxycodone only work half the time lol what a clown. If he was a med officer in field like I was in both Iraq & Afghanistan & refused to give my mates narcotics he’d be left in field so he could be picked up by Taliban or Al Nusera front in Iraq
Totally agree
@@kyriedacrybaby1938 just shows yr ignorance, opoids cause huge damage, eg spastic colon, addiction etc
What you need to do is look at is the root cause
Inow a monpag
@@kyriedacrybaby1938 you clearly dont have any background in health or medicine. This is a common issue in our field and what this doctor is doing is needed and admirable. Majority of individuals on these types of medications shouldn't still be on them
When I asked my doctor if he had a free sample of the medicine I was going to take he said he didn't have any samples. He told me the doctors in his clinic had decided to not accept drug samples from big pharma reps because it was unethical and a conflict of interest. This is the first doctor I'd ever had that thought this way. It makes 100% sense.
Dr Cam is such a good sport, actually all the doctors are. Being scrutinised over how you handle your patients must be tough.
This too
th-cam.com/video/qLeee0HRyHM/w-d-xo.html
Well that good
Pmsl it's part of clinical governance, nothing unusual to a doctor
Especially when you look it at from an external view and you're disgusted with the care you do provide. Making someone rattle is a mask to prevent the need for expensive consultations, but it doesn't fix any problems or reduce the load on the NHS or GPs. All it does is cost the NHS a fortune in masking pills. Actual help may cost more initially, but it also fixes the problem sooner, rather than paying week in week out for the rest of our lives.
Brilliant! The only thing missing in this documentary is nutrition, a big, big factor. BUT it's great to see a doctor go this path
Yeah but it's meant to be a simple easy change for them first. Getting people to overhaul their lifestyle with changes to diet and exercise is a lot more difficult than just getting them to walk/exercise a few days a week. This was obviously just to show how even a small change helps a lot
Exactly ! nutrition is the key (and the keto diet and interment fasting is the way )
I agree! Cutting sugar for me really reduces pain and inflammation noticeably. Eating whole foods over processed food changes a number of problems in a very short period of time. And hydration is another important factor.
As a University Educated individual, majoring in Nutrition I do agree Nutrition is a huge factor. However, don't kid yourself. Even people with very good nutrition become ill.
There are food that some experts call “anti-inflammatory” or healthy food. But there are also proponents of some kind of diet that call some of those anti-inflammatory food as unhealthy and “pro-inflammatory” and vice versa. We can no longer tell which information is correct. The way I decide is observe how my body reacts to certain new food (the ones I once avoided because they were once called bad food.
I do agree that sugar or refined carbs are really the “bad guys” of food and if we are not careful we are consuming them in large amounts because they are in every food & drinks out there including ketchup & barbecue sauce in the form of high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup or HFCS (whatever way they can hide the name). Some try to avoid them by using artificial sweeteners which are just as bad as sugar or the simpler carbs.
Chrystals recovery and her being able to move again had me sobbing in front of my laptop .....
What a courageous woman !! I wish her all the luck in the worlds
Me too 🙂She's an inspiration!
I LOVE YOU CRYSTAL!
Forming groups where members motivate & support each others to keep doing the right thing is clearly the key.
Very few people are so strongly motivated that they can keep doing healthy things all by themselves.

This is one courageous Doctor, like David versus Goliath. May his tribe increase for both the public knowledge & doctors/medical professionals. A win-win for all. I hope the pharmaceutical industry will support & not thwart this movement.
They won't cause that means they won't earn enough money anymore
They will likely hate this, even here (similar to the US though there's no regulation there on drug prices if insured its them who bargain with the pharmacies really and is when someone could be the most vulnerable who cant bargain at all in some cases or at all in the sense of being insured) they hate NICE forgot what they stand for the acronym but they regulate how much money a drug costs due to how its efficacy is (how well it works essentially) and coupled with the NHS they both I think do the bargaining for us patients.
Duplimab (for asthma maybe i dont know but for Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis to be exact is for the treatment of mild to moderate cases) costs a patient in US $37k for year or about that, costs here in UK about £3k, the $37k is a bargained price as well they wanted to charge more as it was approved in 2017 is one of the only things Trump kept his word about wanting to bring down the prices of prescription drugs
Big pharma hates this movement. As evidenced since the beginning of 2020.
I always feel like the gp prescribes pretty much every consultation, partly as patients want to feel like something is being done & a prescription is tangible. Leaving an appointment with nothing kind of makes a patient feel like nothing has been done. I'm far from thinking this is right but that's the impression I've been given by many people. Even if the medication does not necessarily do what it says, it brings the question of placebo effects, the patient may feel better even though the drug couldn't tackle the problem, a person's reason for seeing a doctor in the first place might improve.
The main issue here is to educate ourselves about taking care about our own health and also finding the motivation to be our own support system .

I agree that the responsibility is mine, but every once in a while, I’d like to meet a doc who could support my serious lifestyle choices and the hard work I’m doing and help me negotiate the next level, you know?
That’s what I aspire to do. I’m 67 and fairly healthy, on no meds.
I’m in the exact same medical situation as Crystal, but I’ve been like this for close to 10 years. First 8 yrs my doctor didn’t prescribe me any painkillers at all.... I changed doctor and finally the doctor actually gave me prescription for strong painkillers. If I could be free of all pain AND the medication- I WOULD BE ABLE TO LIVE AGAIN!! I do fysical training 3 times a week for 5 yrs together with a professional physiotherapist. ..... I’m looking at this video in hope of helping me in the end!!!

Pernilla Artistic Pernilla Artistic Are you intolerant to gliadin or gluten or zein which is in corn ??? These are proteins in grains... look up Dr William Davis and Dr David Perlmutter
Ditto
Are you still in this situation? I highly recommend Kratom a red strain of kratom from a reliable vendor. Carolinakratom or Bennibotanicals.com it will change your love and you’ll be able to manage your pain without oxy and hydrocodone!
Another thing not mentioned- sleep quality!! As a sleep apnea sufferer, getting tested, diagnosed and treated with a CPAP machine has lowered my blood pressure and helped my mental health immensely!
It was sooo great to see Crystal get relief from her pain. I’ve been living with chronic back pain for almost 30 years. Just diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my back, collarbone and feet at only 40 years old. “People look for pain” is such a true statement for people with chronic pain.
I’ve also been looking a lot into the healing powers of nature (see the nature fix). I think the walking group can see great benefits from walking outside in nature.
Edit: loved to see how the walking group and Crystal and Sarah benefit so highly from their lifestyle changes. Great work!
I have found doing my own intuitive stretching has kept me pain free. Right now I am healing from falling off my horse and am doing some stretching but not to the point of pain. It feels good to do but can make me a bit more sore afterwards for a day. After that I feel much better, and then I began the cycle again, stretch , rest, stretch, rest, slowly progressing.
Good luck with your healing.
Morbidly interesting how eliminating sugar & refined foods isn't mentioned anywhere.
Here is why doctors arent reccomending the scientifically proven best diet....
th-cam.com/video/qLeee0HRyHM/w-d-xo.html
Diet in general wasn't mentioned...... I was going to comment on this as well as all the dairy I saw in Pt 1 - dairy is an inflammatory
Absolutely agree with you. I said as a comment in Part 1 that I could see that even the doctors at that first meeting were eating crap. Refined white flour etc. There was a patient with gout and the doctor didn’t even mention diet there! Staggering really.
No more caviar for me!
Xavalexa yes, dropping grains and starches and sugars out for even 28 days makes a HUGE difference...add in healthy fats, fresh meat, natural probiotics and fibrous vegetables
Standing ovation, hope he gets an award. If he doesn't he's a life changer.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Applauses for this Doctor. We need more conscious and caring doctors like him.
We need more and more doctors like this gentleman. Especially here in the USA.
What an amazingly inspirational man to do this for people, I hope more doctors take note.
I am British but have lived in Norway for 17 years. This has totally shocked me, over here the CPR infection test is completely standard in all GP surgeries. It is usually carried out by the medical receptionist, and one sits back down in the waiting room to be called in for it, after seeing the doctor. The appointment with the GP is also only 10 minuets, but they still manage it. If infection you go back into doctor between patients for literally the half minute it takes to get the prescription, if virus (far FAR more often than not) you simply leave. 9 times out of 10 I would expect to leave without any prescriptions, that is my expectation.
I'm so moved by the amount of care this doctor truly has for his patients. He really is worried about how he can support them through the process of coming off the drugs. I'm blown away.
This documentary has inspired me to try alternative methods to cope with my depression. Thank you so much to this doctor for really caring about patients' health.
What a wonderful man, as someone who suffers from depression and has finally stopped after 6 years, I'm so happy to watch this. Well done mate
Brilliant! I hope a lot of people will watch this. Well done Dr. Chris!
Don’t ever give up your fantastic work, Doc.
its not sustainable because unless you own the practise they wont let you have that much time as a doctor.
Regular exercise requires a level of accountability and motivation that most medical professionals refuse to involve themselves in even though it would help a lot of people. It's kind of sad.

I am healthy individual free from drugs, but this made my eyes wet.
Bless you Dr. Chris
Wonderful and so inspiring! Above all it was the self empowerment that he gave to all these patients and freed them from the mind set of being helpless victims. This should be required viewing for everyone.
Thank you, just watched the first episode today and now the second is up already! This channel has so much great documentaries on it, keep on the great work!
Ii loved watching this I going to give this a go myself
Perhaps Chrystal’s pain is due to systemic inflammation in the body. A good place to start would be eliminating refined processed foods and sugar. I would always begin with dietary changes.
Always look to the spine first.
KingdomChildOnEarth she’s been scanned and checked extensively; no doctor can find anything structurally wrong with her spine. I’m not saying there’s nothing wrong with her, just that doctors have done due diligence and can’t find a nothing structurally wrong with her spine.
@@pinkmonkeybird2644 I would highly encourage you to get a second opinion from an upper cervical dr. It's very unlikely a medical doctor is going to be able to diagnose or will even want to diagnose a spinal misalignment. Specifically at the ATLAS vertebra. Please let me know the results!

The good doctor is telling us about what the industry is doing for $$$, it's a business with no feelings nor do they care, that's pretty obvious...NOW it's up to us to use our god-given brains to see what is fit or not to eat or use. Again, you are the one in charge. Stop depending on someone else to make you whole unless you have had a severe injury that calls for surgery, etc. or born with a deformity. It's up to us to heal and take charge. Blessings to all

Unbelievable!!! :-0
Amazing Dr, he is making a difference in people's quality of life. I love his spirit and motivation. He is the little guy fighting an Army! Good nutrition combined with exercise is paramount to our health.
All the best from Canada to him on his continued fight!

Good on you. I started walking again in July, but I can’t do more than 1:5 miles yet. But it’s already made a difference.
I would love to see you tackle chronic (or adrenal) fatigue with thyroid problems. That's what I have after being a personal trainer and being super fit. I feel like I've lost half of my life from exhaustion and it affects everything in my life. I don't visit Dr's because they don't help.

Big problem with hypothyroid is failure to test T4 levels and refusal to treat hypothyroidism with anything except synthetic T3 in England.
What is astounding to me is that they cure hyperthyroidism in cats by sending them to a clinic for a radio-iodine injection, and they’re quarantined for a week and a half before going home. Why isn’t there an equivalent for humans?
I am absolutely petrified of withdrawal. That's the only thing that stops me from coming off my meds.
Truly well done to this Dr. What he is saying has been my philosophy all my life - which sometimes made family members angry. And yet I am fine and take no medication. Really well done to him.
Thank u all very much
Martial arts saved my live from severe depression and anxiety in my teen years. Nowadays I'm very successful and happy. I'm still practicing martial arts even on a competitive level. I could not be more thankful for this opportunity.
I find with a lot of illnesses it’s about finding the right treatment, it’s not always the first one you’re given.
Seeing crystals improvement made me tear up 😭💕
I hope this inspires more doctors in the future. I know nothing about medicine and I'm inspired. Fantastic work Chris, you're making a change.
I started the carnivore diet 5 months ago and my heart murmur, diabetes rheumatoid arthritis and chronic fatigue is gone and all my blood work is excellent my heart doctor and GP couldn't believe it! And I'm 65 haven't felt this good in years! All w/o exercise!
Exactly the same here. I started carnivore on February ‘19, no more RA symptoms, excellent health, lost weight, feeling better when I was 30. I am 63 years old now.
Barbara Silano fantastic to read this
The vegan diet is doing it for me.
What an angle you are! Fascinating and educational. Recently I hiked up my doses for nerve pain by almost double. After watching this documentary, am planning to experiment a drug free day. Ten days ago, I started walking at least 45 minutes each day. I’m feeling more energetic and conscious about life in general. May the almighty God bless you. We need more humans like you on planet earth. You’re one in a billion! 🥂
I gave up drugs 25 years ago and also became a vegetarian.
I am now 70 years old and totally healthy. I take responsibility for my own health.
I do regularly take natural treatments for iradicating paracites.
Thanks for an inspiring documentary.
Keep up the good work Chris.

Wow, it just shows the fact that the patients were not interested is because they are sooo used to getting free medical. I would have been in tears of relief if I had seen a doctor like this!!
OMG verry impressed about this guy just awesome. i may try some things myself to reduce my chronic pain (i never took pills) keep up the great work!

While this is a great start, it falls short of healing completely. Like he said, most people don't want lifestyle changes, and really that's what causes most problems in the first place. I was sorry to see that food habits were not addressed. Eating chemicals from colorants and additives in food can cause inflammation, depression, and pain. Just drinking more water, eating more veggies and walking would go a long way to helping most chronic sufferers.
Yeah but it's meant to be a simple easy change for them first. Getting people to overhaul their lifestyle with changes to diet and exercise is a lot more difficult than just getting them to walk/exercise a few days a week. This was obviously just to show how even a small change helps a lot
Agreed.
I just tapered off of antidepressants after being on them for 10 years, and am trying to change my lifestyle :) Its interesting learning about all the things that can affect mood, including diet! It seems so obvious now, theres no magic pill, even with meds we have to put in the work.
Dr Chris is my new Hero. I'm 62 and free of medication, because I've always had an aversion to chemicals & perished the thought of paying high prices for prescriptions! I don't know why they call them "side effects" when they are really DIRECT effects! Big pharma is too GREEDY to care!! Natural remedies, eating healthy & regular exercise is how I've managed my Health -> so far, so good!.
I remember just hearing that woman say that she in crippling pain & wants to “live” not just exist. Really good advice & work Chris; please don’t give up this goal! People out there really desperately need & want your support; help; advice & whatever it is you are able to do.
I’m gonna need him to come out with more episodes please.
I agree!
I cried with happiness for Sarah and Crystal's progress. I'd like to think that this would spread like wildfire, but the power of marketing and lobbies is extreme.
Nurse taking my drug history told me I was the first patient she had seen who took no meds ... not even otc. A month later my husband had to go in and she told him he was only the second patient she had seen who took no drugs.
Crystal's improvement is amazing! I'm soooo happy for her. OMGGG!! i cried seeing her.
This is revolutionary. I hope this video gets seen by more people
I wish there where more doctors like this.
I remember reading that the Chinese used to pay the doctor when they were well, and stopped when they got sick. Common 'prescriptions' would be things like Tai Chi, meditation, etc. We are too obsessed with the 'quick and easy fix'..
i loved the whole two episodes. This is good stuff
I used to take them after work with a couple of beers and a cigarette just ‘because’ it made me feel numb and floaty and I liked that feeling. But I realised that I had some issues in my life and mind that I needed to address and re train if you like and after over a year taking codiene and paracetamol and doxylamine succinate every day, I concluded for me it was a form of depression due to a combination of an imbalanced diet leading to a lack of energy and then to an apathetic attitude which then mentally spirals into a form of low esteem and hopelessness and an egotistical realisation that you are not ‘as good as you used to be’ so mentally nobody is immune to the sudden shock of the realisation that they are ageing at an unexpected rate and history shows that we need three basic things mentally ‘somewhere to live without fear, something to do,and someone to love.the rest will fall into line.
practises should employ physical mentors for this, blokes a legend
Well done for this documentary!! Really needed.
Wonderful, have done a similar thing on my own and managed to reduce my prescriptions. I think if people can be supported through this even better. Great to see
So true, I tapered off my anti depressant myself. i wasnt under a psychiatrists care, family doctor wanted to bridge me to another antidepressant, when bridging can cause additional side effects. It would be beneficial if there was more support and options when you want to get off of meds. i was on them for 10 years, they arent meant for long term use like that, there are no studies on long term use. i had to pull apart my capsules because they dont make doses small enough to taper off without withdrawl. Big changes need to be made, phamaceutical companies could do more studies on discontinuing meds, make proper doses to taper off, there could be closer monitoring of patients by specialists not just GP's, but even small changes could make a big difference, like my doctor could have referred me to a compounding pharmacy to make smaller doses of the med to help me get off of them. Instead of trying to put me on another med, or downplaying and being just plain being ignorant about side effects and withdrawal.
Thanks for addressing the PHQ-9! Recently I have come to a new understanding about the form. It asks, how often have you been "bothered by" not how often have you "had" the following symptoms. For decades, I would fill these out reporting my symptoms. Not anymore, I will fill them out based on how much they bothered me.
I would go to your clinic in an American, New York Minute!!!! I took myself off all my blood pressure meds. after I went vegan and my BP stayed low/normal. I would be there. I do not take pharma!

No, most people on this planet just need a better common sense... Our body is made to be able to heal itself in many cases. We need to trust it and go back to more traditional healing methods. Your body is telling you something and you just throw a pill to make the symptoms go away? Sometimes that helps with the problem, most times it doesn't and just make you need more and more pills. So for example... if something muscular hurts, your body wants to tell you to be more careful, move moderately, get enough rest, and keep it warm. If you break a bone, give it enough time to heal. If you get a headache, try some fluids first (I mean water or tea, no juices or soft drinks) and rest. Any viral infection takes time to heal too. Patience!
@@EvaMariaLotte you are absolutely true. Food is medicine. Our body is not synthetic why put drug's? Our body is natural, so we eat natural food,,, from nature.
for more doctors like this... beautiful work and very proud of you... Dr. Chris!!👏🕊🏆
A practitioner of allopathic medicine, who isn't a dogmatic imbecile. Very refreshing! Now add the bit about 'let food be thy medicine' and this can be called: 'A good beginning.'
Good on you, Dr. Chris.
you are a breath of fresh air! We don't get sick because we are low on certain drugs...antibiotics, etc.
Good doctor! I love for all the doctors to be like him and this clinic was so cool as well. This kind of video made by a doctor is so very needed Well done!! I believe in it 100% here in Romania we would love something like this as well. Be blessed doc.!
This doctor is real person and he really want people to be disease free
This is the confirmation for my drug free life style since 2014. Side effects of my high blood pressure drugs were unbearable. To continue with these drugs meant loosing my liver, kidneys and my manhood etc .
Awesome ⭐⭐⭐ we desperately need more doctors like this!
Crystal : its good pain good pain
could stop myself smiling
One of the main reasons I actually avoid seeing a doctor is simply because they all want to prescribe medication after just 10 min seeing you in clinic. They do not have the time to talk to you, and they don't offer alternative solutions its all "here's a prescription, come back in a week if it's no better" you return and they say OK let's increase the prescription and see how it is then.
I've been in to speak to a doctor when I was suffering for severe depression, she wanted to give me diazipan which I had tried before which was horrid because I literally didn't want to do anything, it was like I was high and I hated that feeling, so she literally went straight to a book to look up side effects on different drugs so she could prescribe me something else. I told her no, I don't want medication I want alternative so that I could actually deal with what was wrong with me, not just paper over the cracks. She directly told me she wouldn't even refer me for counselling when I felt that would have been the best option for me. GPs simply just don't listen. They want you in and out of there ASAP.
I want that doctor!!! Each time I'm going to doctor, I'm given pills. I have cold - I receive antibiotics , without any test (and I don;t take it). I had joints pains, so doctor gave me drags , without any test. I went to another, I had tests I have chondromalacia. And the sollution? More drags. I gave up going to doctors, make big research and found solution - chaning eating habits, totally eliminating some food, started doing workouts with weights (and doctos said to stop tottaly excercising). After 2 years, I don't feel any pain and my range of motion is better than it was before
I’m so happy for your dogged determination and success!
@@2011Ecstatic thank you
Severe Depression is so gut wrenching. I suffer from it myself. I’m on an SSRI and Wellbutrin. Over the years, when I lessen my dose in an effort to slowly go off of drugs entirely, I tell my husband to watch me and give me his objective assessment. Usually the daily negativity, crying, suicidal feelings, and apathy come with a vengeance. So I end up returning to the original dose. Exercise, which I love, is extremely difficult to do when I’m in that state of mind…..However, watching this, along with the understanding of cold water therapy, has convinced me to try it….not swimming, because that would require an hour’s drive…But showers instead….there’s been science that has come out within the last 10 years that’s mindblowing …
I REALLY appreciate this doctor’s efforts and successes! He’s phenomenal…and might consider FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE as a way to practice medicine.
It’s 2023, so I don’t know if anyone will see this, but I hope so!🙏🏻💜
How is he getting these patients off of opioids so quickly?!
It's called attention and support.
They not showing full video Of The whole time
It can take up to a year depending on the dose you were on
I commend what Dr Chris Van Tulleken is trying to achieve. I will start seeing a Doctor again, if there is ever one like him near me 💕 keep up the good work.
I lost 35 pounds and my blood pressure returned to normal. Crystal is taking a huge amount of opioids. Wonderful video.
I cried this whole episode. Such brave people❤🎉. Thank you
I wonder if you have explored analyzing what people are eating and the relationship to inflammation. Also, analyzing the gut biome and it's effect on general health...again connected to dietary choices and the possibility of chemical contaminates...ie round up.
DR Chris deserves a Nobel Price.
Cold showers are also helpful. You don’t have to go outside in a pond.
Am ma zing! Well done Chris.... Let's hope the NHS listens to you and not the money grabbing drug companies.... I'm inspired... Will continue to walk 30 mins a day. At 69 I'm on no medication at all and am determined to stay that way. You are an inspiration👏
I suffer from Crohns Disease and have done for 25 years and no amount of exercise or lifestyle change will help. I have tried many, many things over the years and the only thing that helps me is 3 tramadol and other meds I take. So while I understand that what he thinks might help some people there are a lot of conditions out there that his way just won't work.
I have epilepsy and am experiencing a relapse of anxiety and severe depression so I think for some people this is absolutely a ridiculous idea and concept
Doc started the first episode with that some drugs are useful, and that there are serious health conditions, where taking drugs is inevitable - but the main problem is the overdosage and that people swallow pills for literally everything. Instead of going out for a walk or airing their room, going to the gym and other simple solutions. And you have to bare in mind, that every pill has negative side-effect(s), but only small percent of the drugs taken help the patient in reality.
Many people have put IBD and other autoimmune diseases as well as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, migraine, epilepsy, and mental health conditions like depression anxiety or bipolar into remission with a ketogenic or carnivore diet. Achieving a healthy weight is a nice side effect.
You did not get it in 3 years did you ..
Avoiding wheat products has not helped?
Amazing. Why wasn’t counselling offered to Sarah too as an alternative?
Exactly!! She lost 2 close family members; I’m sure a component of her current state of depression is due to unprocessed grief!
Great series of documentaries. I wish my doctors surgery could offer something like this. I guess the NHS is under such great financial pressure that the initial costs are hard to justify even with the projected savings in prescription drugs.
So encouraging and so happy for the people involved
they tried to put me on medication for high cholesterol once, they said I'd have to be on it for life or I'd pop my clogs any minute.. i refused, got a second opinion and I was told there was nothing wrong with me, my cholesterol may be a bit high but my HDL is way higher than my LDL
I always refuse anything for my blood pressure, cholesterol lowering drugs, diabetes drugs. If my numbers are high I just say give me a month and I’ll knock them down. I get off sugar, dairy, and wheat and exercise and the numbers are right back where they need to be. But I also see an Acupuncturist twice a month and do take some herbs, lemon water every morning, Ashwaganda paste along with some other supplements like cod liver oil, B vitamins, vitamin D and lots of minerals! Got myself off and antidepressants with some help from a naturopath and my acupuncturist. Also was diagnosed with high pressure in my eyes which was giving me glaucoma symptoms and I stopped taking all the drugs because everyone I was taking was causing the pressure to get higher. Went to my acupuncturist and the pressure was back down to normal and stays down even lower than it was in my 40s. I’m now 66 years old. Still working on some other issues like a little anxiety and depression but exercise helps and I’m whittling down my Xanax. Then I’m done I’m off it all. All they ever wanted to do was give me more and more and more pills. Oh also diagnosed with asthma and they literally threatened me if I didn’t take the medication that I would be on oxygen and begging them for the medicine. That was 12 years ago. Not on oxygen may use an inhaler once a year if I get sick. God has put things in nature and in particular the food we eat. What has helped my lungs and everything else the most is eating for my Dosha type ....pitta/vata!
Me too. My gp keeps on about me going on statins yet my hdl is good and triglycerides. I've read all about the cholesterol myth. Started keto diet. Statins aren't needed .
Check out Google scholar for research on magnesium and cholesterol and magnesium and arterial or heart disease.
God bless this doctor. I remember when I moved countries and my 16 year old was given that questionnaire for depression and of course he said he was depressed (temporarily) and immediately they wanted to give him anti depressants. I said to the doctor no way I know my son is not depressed - once he made friends in a new school he was perfectly fine. Parents be careful
I suffer(Ed) from chronic pain. I'm so glad I never went down the pain medication path my doctor prescribed. Fasting and ketogenic diet has done more for my pain and infections then anything else. It does take time, mental energy and money to follow.
Sadly I'm Bi Polar 2, so I have to take meds for rest of my life. With out them I cant hold a job or even leave the house.
UK and US need to be more supportive of single mothers like in Scandinavia. They need to realize that investing in ALL kids is good for society and mothers like this need child care. I didn't have kids b/c men always leave and I didn't want to be a single parent. I'm really thinking that was a huge mistake b/c now I'm older and have nothing. Kids give people a reason to live but it's the hardest job that women have been doing for nothing for too long.
I think it's time to make a huge change in society and offer more social support for many people. Community is lacking in our countries and there's a lot of lonely people who are doing nothing but mope around the house b/c they have no money or freedom to do anything else. Then to top it off, apartments are ugly too. Humans are not meant to live stacked on top of each other like we are animals in cages.
men dont always leave but they do leave more often then mothers but you should only have a child with someone you are sure is a responsible person who also wants a child too , Alot women dont make the best choice in term of partners and I think theres alot of women getting pregnant accidentally so If the guy didnt want a child to start with hes less likely to stick around and most women wont have an abortion even if they are told by the guy he doesnt want it, she decides to do it alone , so thats in a way partly the womans fault too , I had an abortion I knew the man was not going to be very much help realistically , Some single mums actually prefer to be single mums sometimes too
