Bought the flg5 round 7 months ago and was using it for everything. Now bought a gti pro for my clear but still use the flg5 for primer and base. All because of you Gunman I bought it, Ive learnt from all your videos and now I've done 3 full resprays now, I get people coming to me for small jobs. And they come back and are more than happy with the work. It's now my full time job and haven't worked for a body shop and don't plan to as I enjoy being my own boss
Gunman. I've been a painter since I was 18. I am now 56. Used and bought many guns. Sprayed many cars, bikes, and garden gnomes (long story LOL). I just purchased the FLG5 from SGD and I am blown away! The FLG5 in my opinion hands down is hard to beat for it's price and versatility. My current profession is painting jetliners. This old dog just learned a new trick and am grateful for your videos. Keep up the great work mate!
I still love all 3 of mine and they are absolute workhorses. I use a 1.8 for primer filler the 1.4 for barcoat or sealer and the other 1.4 for vhs or uhs clearcoat. Never had a problem.
Thank Gunman. Sprayed my M3 with my new FLG-5 and hands down a very good gun. Painted small parts before and this is my first whole car and it’s absolutely stunning.
Big fan mate due to your review on FLG 5 went out and bought one 1st time spraying with a spray gun for a amateur painted my vy ss ute the gun made my paint job a lot easier then expected keep up the good work mate
i watched loads of the gunman videos on the flg5 and other sprayguns before purchasing the flg5 and gotta say i love the gun .So big thumbs up to the gunman for such a good honest review on this brilliant gun .
I got an Flg 5 after watching a heap of your videos , got the 1.4 , also got a 1.8 tip for primer Just finished painting my sister's falcon at home, and it looks pretty bloody good Thanks Gunman you have no idea how much you helped me 👍
On Gunny's rec' I bought 3 SGK600BV's, 1x base, 1x clearcoat, and 1.8 for primer (the browny coloured one). Have sprayed plenty of solvent base and clear through them. Today I sprayed Auto Air sealer and Sparklescent pearl water base on an aircraft - worked well. Although, the smaller tip would have helped with the pearl. Didn't entirely like how the 1.8 sprayed (pattern uneven), but gets the job done. Just got an Iwata Bellaria and a Lotus WS400... will be interesting to compare. Devilbiss always felt strange to me, might be because I sprayed Iwata suction feed 25 years ago with acrylics and enamel. Not used to the oval pattern, and gun so close to the work. Gunny brought me into the 2000's, and made painting enjoyable again. Thanks mate.
I agree with the fan pattern being it’s only downfall for an average gun. Started with this, now it’s my primer and back up paint gun for simpler, less important jobs. It’s an excellent primer / sealer gun. The limited fan spray just eliminates it in a lot of situations or higher end jobs. The gti is still the workhorse in our shop
Just to let you know I actually talked to a rep from Devilbiss and he told me that the gun was not designed for waterborne base because of the materials used on the inside so it is nice to know that you are using waterborne without problems
I use the FLG5 for 1k Primer and sometimes 2K Single Stage Paint or Clearcoat. I love the Sata and Iwata Guns, but for the price (in Germany it's around 100€)) it's a really nice gun. Easy to use, easy to clean, kind of a workshopwh... you can throw around and don't have to care a lot about and still works. The point about the retaining ring on the aircap is rather a positive thing to me when it comes to cleaning, I can't really see an issue there. Sure, it's not the prettiest gun on the market and not the best made, but hey, look at the price, what do you expect?! Even the cheapest Satas (100 and 1000 Series) start at around 220€, the Iwatas are even a little bit more expensive here. Especially for beginners or DIY guys it's a really good gun to start with, in my opinion. But even as a professional in a workshop, for Primer, 2k Single Stage or just as a backup Gun, you will be happy. Greetings from Germany!
Hi Gunny. Been watching your videos for years, you do a great job. I just ordered a FLG5 from SGD in the UK. They beat the best price in oz by around $40 or more. Been painting since 1966, first decent gun I have ever bought. Sick of guns that work for a while and then start spluttering and dripping. Keep up the good work
Nice gun, thanks for the heads-up. I like that the aircap is 2 piece, easier to make sure it's clean. $165 USD shipped to the US via DHL, 4 day delivery too!
I bought one when you first recommended it, and it was made in England, not Brazil like the very early ones. Biggest fan I've seen on a cheaper gun. Ten times nicer than the FLG4
I bought one ages ago and I'm very happy with it. A bit of free advertising, I bought it from Bayford in Sydney for around $200 bucks. So long as I keep it clean, it should last to be able to finish the ute.
Great video. I left a comment on your FLG5 1.4 review a few months back that I had bought one of these from a UK supplier and was worried that it was fake because it had a 1.3. As a DIY-er I love the gun and am glad that it is officially out.
Might be getting one of those! Thanks for all the tips and time and time you put into to your channel. Just got my first order from spray guns direct. Got my first Pro-Lite. And one of your sweaters and a lab coat with the Gunman logo. And I must say I was excited to get to work for the first time in a while. And it shipped to me within 5 days! And I live in the states!
Figures, the first pro with a real clue that gives a recommendation for a reasonably priced gun in the $100some range, heck in the sub $400 or so range and you manage to drive all of us in the US crazy recommending something that is only available in England and Australia.
This site sells worldwide, I know lots of people from USA who have one from them, supposedly they ship really fast to USA too. www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/index.php/devilbiss-flg5-compliant-solvent-spraygun-best-seller.html#sthash.MA9CnBLJ.dpbs
I bought the SLG 620. It lays clear down nice as long as you slow it down a bit. It doesn’t do well if you try to move too fast. I wish I’d bought the FLG5 now though.
just bought a flg5 from spraygunsdirect, they shipped it out pretty quickly, so far it has gone from england to germany to melbourne to sydney... it's currently in narita - Japan. estimated time of delivery 24th of september i guess it still might make it to tassie in time
Would you rate this one higher than the GTI with a TE20 aircap? I'll be using mostly direct gloss 2K paint to restore classic cars. I like the paint to lay as flat / glass like as possible to minimize buffing. Another alternative I'm considering is a satajet 100 BF RP. Especially also interested in your views regarding a 1.3 vs 1.4 tip, I've always used 1.4 but always had slight orange peel. I think the 1.3 would lay flatter. Thanks again
I have to say my ANI F160 is pretty awesome. It was under $200 US shipped. But if the FLG5 is that price, I may to make another order from spraygunsdirect.
Well, I ordered the FLG5 from Spraygunsdirect.co.uk, also picked up the PPS adapters. Can’t wait to use it! It was shipped quickly, arrived in 3 days of order.
Dam I bought this 4years ago when first starting out BASED ON YOUR REVIEW THEN, since then I have tried alternatives but I still come back to this gun, so much so only 4mthd ago I actually bought another lol, yep I like it that much, but yes I'm still a newbie but after 4years I still haven't found a gun I like more,in fact I actually like it more than my GTI, Yes I know the GTi is better but to me it's just prefer this over the GTi....so to summarize thanks 4years on and your up to date review is saving me money, because that best cheap gun from 4years ago in your top ten is still the best cheap gun according to you,for me best gun I've ever used from a none pro
I have the sata 5500x I 1.3 and it does in fact spray a bit heavy at the top of the fan. However I can adjust the pressure and fan to find the sweet spot where it sprays evenly, but obviously I shouldn't have to. I plan on getting the 1.4 o kit for it as it doesn't put much material down. But i don't like to spray slow i usually move fairly quick.. And also I bought mine new in box for just over 400 usd on ebay and have seen many sell for that, even the 1.3 o. And no its not a knock off. Regardless of the negativity of the sata name, the build quality of the 5500 is all around fantastic.
I have the FLG5 and it has worked great as a primer gun. I noticed that the last couple times i used it, it leaks air from where the need goes through in front of the trigger. I have cleaned the gun and need, I have tightened and loosened the nut where the needle goes through but no change. I have also changed needles and still have the issue. Have you experienced this before?
Gunman thank you for the recommendation on the FLG 5 wow. I haven’t sprayed in years. I spray today and i felted like I have been paint for years. Job came out excellent. If I do say so myself. Lol I have ordered SATA system can’t wait to use it. I sprayed with good shit. Thanks brother love your videos.
yes, i can see that it sprays the water base coat; what the guy meant was the "solvent" designation means the type of o-rings in the gun are different, ie rubber or synthetic, one WILL degrade with solvent based paint/ cleaning fluids, others don't, which allows them to be used on either paint material, the worry is if the o-rings stand up to the SOLVENT, not that they are OK with water based material, ALL gaskets (other than paper, of coarse) are suitable for water.
Would love a comparison video on flg5 1.3 and 1.4 for 2k solid paint, just bought the flg5 1.8 for primer, have sata 4000 for clear, pro lite for water base, was using a cheap gun for 2k but defo need an upgrade, any advise on which you would recommend would be great 👍 loving the videos 😁
Hay Gunny , hi there from South Africa , Flg5 great gun bought mine on your recommendation from sprayguns direct been using mine for around 4 years still going great , I actually got a Satajet 5000 rp 1.4 that I bought from a bud for 150$ but tried everything can't seem to get Japanese finish right no problem with the Flg5 , won't believe it but I'm using that Satajet for 2k primer wat a waste ! I'm a Diy guy but put out about two jobs a week constantly , that's after hours . Saving up for a pro Lite but but with the 💷 to Rand exchange rate it's pretty expensive about what two complete sprayjob would cost ! Always a pleasure to watch your vids !!! They say if you don't ask you'll never know so I'm asking , if you ever have a pro Lite gathering dust for a decent price I'm in the market ☺ !!
Started doing paint and body again at my uncle's shop on my days off from sheet metal on airplanes. I really miss painting and love it. Can't lose the practice haha. Definitely looking to buy me another gun as well to go with my vigilante pro. Cheers, brother.
I bought one of these after I seen this video last week. Very good finish in the end compared with my Parkside gun. I can almost let the work done as it is without polishing the clear. Only issue i have is the non perfectly even filler is easier to be seen with a very good finish and now i have to do the whole work again
Mate, I bought my Tekna Pro Lite a few years back based on your top shelf advice, no way this would be a bad gun considering how many times you've shown us it isn't! By the way, attaboy keepin that breath fresh with the massive load of Eclipse gum!
Ordered on Friday from the US and it arrived from the UK in 4 days via DHL. Super fast. I dont think it would arrive that fast even if I bought a gun in the US. You need to also note that you can buy other size needles and caps for the gun on their website. I also got a 3M adapter.
I had the same good experience from Spray Guns Direct in the UK. Actually I ordered this gun on a Thursday night and it was here Monday afternoon! I was pleasantly shocked. It was also my first experience with DHL. There tracking was accurate and superb, I especially liked that they text me when they were only a few deliveries away.. I appreciated the heads up. Phillip Hall
I've always had good results with Devilbiss guns and can be just as productive with a good less expensive gun than I can with very expensive guns I'm not a big fan of spending way too much just for a name.
Gunman question - new here what is the adaptor/ added for the gun and name of the kit to hold paint in plastic bag - it looks like that hold paint on the gun ? Thanks Mark- Dallas TX
Great vid, and thanks for all the education over the past few years. Got my hands on an FLG5 -18 to shoot acrylic lacquer. It's using so much paint and pumping out so much in overspray, I think I must have the settings wrong. The paint SDS/TDS says shoot at 50PSI, but it's just blowing it everywhere except where I need it the panels.. Should I try the 1.4 tip?
I learned about spraygunsdirect on your vids I am interested in the Graco razor that is listed on spraygunsdirect. Have you ever review it or plan on doing a review on it. It looks like a nice American made gun. Am trying to stay away from knockoffs.
Hi mate well i am not a painters bootlace but i do have a crack mainly boats which to be honest have turned out reasonably good even for the eyes of a pro painter who i showed ( good flowing paint i rekon not skill) , anyway i have done 3 boats over a 15 year period with my el cheapo hvlp gun but i think it may be time to retire it even though i have looked after it well it may just have to be a primer gun from now on . This gun is not expensive as you say and my question is how do you think this would go using 2 pack epoxy as this is normally what i use on the boats for toughness ,any engine cowels ,legs ect are done in 2 pack urethane, anyway so thats my question before i run out and buy one ,
cheers gunny, just ordered a 1.3 fluid tip from sprayguns direct. good to see the 1.3 and 1.4 tip share the same needle also so one less thing to worry about.
Hey bro I am a big fan of the devil bliss guns I've noticed that they are selling them on wish like ya GTI pro lite 1 of my favorites and like dirt cheap like 150 to 200 normally they are abt 500$ nz are these guns real deal or cheap knock offs?
Thank you for your videos. I never spray painted a car therefore, no nothing beside what I learn on TH-cam. Would it be possible for you to propose a detailed beginner’s spray gun kit, supposing that the car is ready to be primed. Thank you in advance ! Keep up the good work !
How do you feel about the devilbiss plus? I have owned one for about 8 years and have had good luck with it. Just wanted to know your thoughts about it. Thanks for all the advise and tips.
I think your reviews are fantastic thank u for your expertize and passion for educating ppl .im from South Africa and really wish i could have a teacher like u .Regards Wayne
Me respondam! porque essa FLG5 Devilbiss que estou vendo no vídeo é diferente das FLG 5 Devilbiss produzida aqui no Brasil??? Preciso arrumar um jeito de comprar uma SGK 600 BV dai com o selo CE....
I'm thinking of getting this gun or something similar as my first proper spray gun . I'm a complete noob and have heard that a lvlp set up is best for what I need it for (bike frames) . Is there a version of this that is lvlp?
Great video. Question on one of your other guns. Have you tired the HVLP cap on the sagola 4600 extreme. I am looking for a new base gun for spraying standox solvent. I see that you have used the aqua cap. Just wondering why .
Thanks for the awesome review. I ended up placing an order today. Can't wait to try it out. Can you or any other viewers comment on which PPS 2.0 Adapter I would need or perhaps the thread specs for the cup connector so I can order correct size?
Hey Gunman, have you used the Walcom slim combat hte 1.3? I just ordered one on a few recommendations from TH-cam reviews and hoping i got a good one haha
Hello gunman! I will turn my devilbiss flg 515 1.3 into 1.1 for minor repairs, will it pay off? here in Brazil we have the option of using the flg 515 kit for airless which is nozzle 1.1
Bought the flg5 round 7 months ago and was using it for everything. Now bought a gti pro for my clear but still use the flg5 for primer and base. What's Ur review after all these months of ownership I also wanna spray my e46
+1 for the FLG5, 30 Year trade veteran use my FLG daily, have been SATA my whole career.

I got an Flg 5 after watching a heap of your videos , got the 1.4 , also got a 1.8 tip for primer
Just finished painting my sister's falcon at home, and it looks pretty bloody good
Thanks Gunman you have no idea how much you helped me 👍
Just got myself a FLG and watching this made me feel even better! Thx
Gunny brought me into the 2000's, and made painting enjoyable again. Thanks mate.
We need flg5 gunman edition you make this gun famous so is time👍
YES!! second that!!
Third that!
I agree with 1.3 1.4 1.8 and 2.3 needle and cap kit lol
I agree Fernando.
Phillip
I agree with the fan pattern being it’s only downfall for an average gun. Started with this, now it’s my primer and back up paint gun for simpler, less important jobs. It’s an excellent primer / sealer gun. The limited fan spray just eliminates it in a lot of situations or higher end jobs. The gti is still the workhorse in our shop
I'm a "beginner" painter and bought this on your recommendation from an older video you done on budget guns and for the price i can't fault this
I can't think of anything that has provided me more value for money than this gun. Bought one years ago on your recommendation. Thanks.

Could you please give the shop where this gun can be bought for 100 €? The less expensive that I found was for 180€. Thank you
@@gaborkoncz9893 I bought it from Hellmann Oberflächentechnik Bremen
@@Jonas___ Thank you Jonas.
Hi Gunny. Been watching your videos for years, you do a great job. I just ordered a FLG5 from SGD in the UK. They beat the best price in oz by around $40 or more. Just bought 2 after the great review you did mate . It's very well made , sure I'll be happy with these.

Hello
I have a solvent-based base coat from Standox Black
How do I dilute it? With what thinner? I have 250 ml, how much thinner should I add?

Mate, I bought my Tekna Pro Lite a few years back based on your top shelf advice, no way this would be a bad gun considering how many times you've shown us it isn't! By the way, attaboy keepin that breath fresh with the massive load of Eclipse gum!
awesome video as always brother stay safe and God Bless

Would you rate this gun or the Walcom slim kombat 1.3 hte?
I'm new to spray guns, please help me! Is this gun hvlp or lvlp? And It would work with epoxy primers and urethane paints? Thx
I love both of my FLG5`s and im looking forward to getting the 1.3
Ordered on Friday from the US and it arrived from the UK in 4 days via DHL.
My compressor is only 1.5 HP, would this gun be ok with this gun?
hi, is this the same as DV905163 FLG because i can't find flg5 anywhere?thanks!
I’ve got to say that really does look like a very good finish , that looks like that gun is very good value
Just picked one up on your recommendation gunman!
Can't wait to spray my fully hektik VS commodores
Gunman, how many times did you adjust the amount of color?
Hey bud what gun would you recommend for smart repairs couple panels ? nice finish with cheaper lacquers ?
Would you say this is much better than the FLG4 670 for basecoats and clears?
Hi what tip would recomend for base coat -laquer - gloss with that gun , as im just starting to get into spraying
Many thanks
Hey we just used to go and get an 80 buck STAR gun .. If you got 5 good spray outs from them, its paid for itself
New to spraying, what was the quick clear coat you sprayed before the black basecoat?
What is a decent gun to use on two k solvent gloss paint at home
Great vid, and thanks for all the education over the past few years. Got my hands on an FLG5 -18 to shoot acrylic lacquer. It's using so much paint and pumping out so much in overspray, I think I must have the settings wrong. The paint SDS/TDS says shoot at 50PSI, but it's just blowing it everywhere except where I need it the panels.. Should I try the 1.4 tip?
Is there possibilty to buy only 1.3 fluid tip because I already have FLG 5 with 1.4 and 1.8 setup? Probably 1.3 and 1.4 use same needle..
That's possible, but I can't confirm. It may be worth sending Chris at info@spraygunsdirect.co.uk an email and see what he says.
I learned about spraygunsdirect on your vids
I am interested in the Graco razor that is listed on spraygunsdirect.
@Do One yes that's right
Gunman would you pay over double the price for Gti pro lite this spray seams to spray not much different as I’m a do it yourself painter thanks
Thanks for this video and information. I just ordered it. No more mountainous clear coat for me.
Hey bro I am a big fan of the devil bliss guns I've noticed that they are selling them on wish like ya GTI pro lite 1 of my favorites and like dirt cheap like 150 to 200 normally they are abt 500$ nz are these guns real deal or cheap knock offs?
I have a pretty big investment in pps, what's the pps2 all about? I see you're using it.
Thank you for your videos.
I never spray painted a car therefore, no nothing beside what I learn on TH-cam. Would it be possible for you to propose a detailed beginner’s spray gun kit, supposing that the car is ready to be primed.
Thank you in advance !
Keep up the good work !
Is this gun capable of spraying water-based paints? I want to use it for woodworking... (mdf)
Hi friend... I like this gun and I think the air cup it's exactly the same with the old gti 110... What do you think about this?
Absolutely love all the posts Gunman! In the process of updating some equipment, I will give it a go, many thanks for the constant inspiration 🤘
What is the minimum size compressor I could use with that gun? I plan to paint motorcycle parts.
I'm thinking of getting this gun or something similar as my first proper spray gun . I'm a complete noob and have heard that a lvlp set up is best for what I need it for (bike frames) . Is there a version of this that is lvlp?
I have a devilbliss flg 5 (1.4), is it possible to purchase a 1.3 kit to use it with the flg5? And if yes from where ? Thanks and well done.
Great video. Question on one of your other guns. Have you tired the HVLP cap on the sagola 4600 extreme. I am looking for a new base gun for spraying standox solvent. I see that you have used the aqua cap. Just wondering why .
Used the flg 1.5 before and found it a brilliant gun but 1.5 is to big I like using a 1.3 tip. Shall be looking at this one. Top job
Might be a dumb question but is a super cheap gun better than a spray can?
Thanks for the awesome review. I ended up placing an order today. Can't wait to try it out. Can you or any other viewers comment on which PPS 2.0 Adapter I would need or perhaps the thread specs for the cup connector so I can order correct size?
You will need the S15 PPS2 adapter mate.
@@TheGunmanChannel thank you! Appreciate that you take the time make these videos and answer questions! Cheers!
Hey Gunman, have you used the Walcom slim combat hte 1.3? I just ordered one on a few recommendations from TH-cam reviews and hoping i got a good one haha
Is the Gunman Spraygun Prolite not available at spraygunsdirect?? I need one of those!!!!
You used a wet bed, or orientation coat on that car? I though that was only really for silver colours?
Hello gunman! I will turn my devilbiss flg 515 1.3 into 1.1 for minor repairs, will it pay off? here in Brazil we have the option of using the flg 515 kit for airless which is nozzle 1.1
