At least for me as an average scrub Ed’s short range jab is really hard to adjust to. I’m used to being able to convert off a jab into combos and Ed’s will just whiff from his low sometimes. Or punishing minus frames with a jab but it doesn’t reach and his flicker jabs are slow. You also do need to be really good at anti airing, spacing, and whiff punishing. It seems like he’s the kinda character meant to punish the other player’s mistakes which is inherently more of a thinking play style than the average drive rush goon or crouching+strong button into whatever.
The jab thing with this character is weird to me. For a character who has no overhead, a finicky cross-up, and any damage he might have comes from very very technical execution, you'd think they'd make his normals quite good. Obviously, the fact that he can pull a blocking opponent towards him is the reason they were shy about making him too strong, but he should seriously have normals that that we would be saying things like, "It's definitely not as good as Chun, but it's still quite good."
