WINTER: Sleeping in a Woodland Bushcraft Shelter - Campfire Cooking - Deer Hides - Craft Projects

- I slept in a woodland bushcraft shelter built by myself and Mike from TA OUTDOORS. It was a cold and wet couple of days but with the help of a few deer hides, I managed to craft a woodland (caveman-style) door. The tools I used to make the door were a knife, axe and a saw.... as well as a little natural twine cordage. Food-wise; I cooked up a delicious Asian stir-fry using fresh pork, onion, garlic, ginger and some noodles + packet sauce. I keep saying this but trust me... it was one of the best meals I've ever cooked in a woodland. Breakfast was a mighty sub!

I just realized that you've upped your game, the video quality, setting up shots with foreground or background things to make them more interesting, etc. This video is as good as what Mike does, and he's a real pro at this. You know she won't sleep in her own bed voluntarily. LOL! She wants to be right there with you! Such a sweet girl is she. And yes, Labs are food vacuum cleaners. No chewing needed. Gulp, gulp, gone.
The meals you prepare are awesome! How about an earthen oven. I watched Townsends channel on how to build one. You have bread baking skills, and I think it would be fun to watch.

Do mice or whatever eat deerhide? The door took long enough to fabricate...but it would have made a useful place to use simple joinery along with the nails. It is always good to see the roundhouse being used!

Dog bed; indoor water storage; indoor grain and hay storage (that roof space would have been laden with drying meat and herbs); a larger more comfortable bed; a proper hearth.
Now I'm hungry 😕

Always wondered why food cooked outside tastes so much better than the same food cooked at home.

Dustin you asked for ideas to do in the camp. How about doing a Second World War type camp. Dig a foxhole and cover with a tarp or poncho or maybe logs. Cook on a small fire in a military mess tin. You could include Mike, maybe in the snow like Easy Company in Band of Brothers . I’m sure it would make an interesting video. Something that I would enjoy watching.

Your door looks awesome and a wonderful way to use deer hides that didn't turn out perfectly. HoiSin sauce is one of my favorite Chinese sauces, great (and essential) in many different Asian dishes. ❤👍
Have you or the guy from TA Outdoors ( sorry I'm bad for names) made a tree house 🏡. Would love to see a tree house, 6 foot off the ground or something, weather proof, in the woods with a fire on a bed of mud and rocks or something. That I would love you guys to build in your style. Not too shabby. Thought you were going to have the door finished up by the end but it is what it is. Were in rainy season good Northwest rain storms coming through this week. Almost Christmas man less than a week to go.

Just like humans - dogs love to eat too - as soon as they see you eating apparently their ole juices start flowing quite freely. My German Shepherd Tangee I always fed her when we ate, so much easier & no guilts/feeling sorry for Tangee & she ate what we had. Like the shelter looks roomy inside. Cheers
More chairs or seating for outside and inside. Maybe a fire pit outside. Love the series for the round house keep it up!

Great episode Dustin! The new door looks great. As usual, you cook better recipes in the woods than most people do in their kitchens. You have the best bush craft cooking kung fu.
Hey maybe the dog bed construction can be a good episode. You can cover the building steps and also go over the dog comfort requirements. Tips for other bush crafters with dogs, etc. Measurements, materials, how much bedding needed, does the bed need a heat reflector behind it to keep the bed warm?
I hope you can work with Mike again soon. You guys are a great team.
