    A Roti (also called Chapati) is a plain Indian flatbread. Small pieces of dough are rolled flat and in circular shape, lightly toasted on a dry tawa (skillet) and then directly held over over open flame till it fliffs up.
    You have added fillings, multi - wrapped the rolled dough, then fried it in oil/butter. It is a Paratha. ( A rudimentary Naan bread). If you dry roast it on a non-stick frying pan, it will not taste good because the fillings remain half cooked.
    For making a multi- layered Roti, please look up Jehann Powell's cooking channel. She lives in Guyana.

    Yes,this is basically a paratha quite famous in any nook and cranny of India. Yours too looked so yummy and mouth watering. But I'm bit sceptical about using white flour or maida in hindi, I make parathas with millet atta multigrain atta or whole wheat flour. Thanks

      In Malaysia and other parts of South East Asia, we mainly use white flour for making roti canai or flatbread such as in this video. So while using white flour is might not be common in India, but is it widely used here in SEA.

      They'll make out its their idea and sell it back to Indians (who'll buy it).
      Most of the world uses unhealthy maida flour. Only indians use wholemeal routinely.
      I am interested in world cusine and Indian food, its rich diversity etc.. proves it is a very old and sophisticated civilisation. Literally light years ahead of the barbaric western world.

    This is called Warki Paratha. Carom seeds in a pinch are added to the dough itself. Other additions like turmeric, green herbs and steamed spiced potato are optional. After each fold you can brush the surface with a bit of oil and sprinkle a little flour. You get beautiful layers.

    Just as a tip you can add more fillings but after the 2nd fold turn it over then do the 3rd and 4th fold as the ingredients won't fall out as your way only one side as dough layers and yes this is paratha from India essentially. We don't use baking powder and they generally have more fillings and are thin soft and can be abit crispy if you like it that way.
    If there was only one dish I could eat my whole life it would be a aloo (potato) paratha 😋

    I loved that you emphasized that flatbread is called Roti .. hehe .. as a South Asian it is sometimes quite difficult to make westerners understand what a roti/paratha is ..and how it is NOT a tortilla .. I believe through internet many people will get to know the differences between different kinds of flatbreads across the globe. Thank you for the nice recipe.
    edit: oh just wanted to add that your technique of making it with oil and frying it golden both sides actually falls under the Paratha category rather than a Roti. A Roti in South Asia usually doesn't have oil/frying. It can have few drop of oil while making it but not the frying like yours. A Roti doesn't have layers. A Paratha essentially has Layers.

      Despite your good intention you are kind of making a similar error. Because this is not really paratha as well. It is called Murtabak / Motabbaq , a dish originated from the middle-east. It is called "Mughlai Paratha" in India and Bangladesh for the same reason westerners call roti "flatbread" - for familiarity.

      Ok.. but DO NOT use INDUSTRIALISED - ( processed )seed oils in your diet!… it is extremely high in Omega 6
      aka = LINOLEIC acid = HEART DAMAGING!! NOW we know that safflower; sunflower; soybean oil ..et cetera .. tub margarines’; along with processed Corn oil; peanut oil; processed avo oil; …. Will cause rapid heart degeneration. heart surgeons’ will now warn you‼️
      AVOID safflower; rape/grape seed oil; they’re only called “canola oil’ BECAUSE they couldn’t MARKET it under the proper ‘Rape’ seed name 🫤.... stop buying this AND sunflower; peanut oil; canola; OR ANY PROCESSED SEED OIL !!.. read labels peoples’..🙏

    Excellent video in presentation and quality. The recipe, ingredients and measurements are very helpful. As a kind note, it might be good to make sure the pan (with oil) is hot enough to accept the bread, as if it is too cold, you might have a soggy but hot flatbread. Test the heat with a sprinkle of water, before you make the commitment to proceed. Non stick or a little oil will make it much more crisp. Thank you.

      Thank you for your valuable feedback! I completely agree with your suggestion about testing the heat of the pan before proceeding. It's definitely an important step to ensure the perfect texture for our delicious flatbread. 😊👍

    Living in a mostly Indian household, we eat roti most days, but I assure you I have never seen this version before ever in my life. If it is taking the world by storm, it is a very mild, slow-moving storm, more like a drizzle with no wind at all. Looks decent, though, albeit probably not a good fit for Indian food given the hard cheese. Sesame seeds also are not common in desi cuisine. This might make a good snack with some olives and hummus, however.

    • @ironbutterfly12
      @ironbutterfly12 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The cheese will melt inside. I think it will go well with chai.
      This is more like a paratha and I have seen many non -indians using baking powder when they make paratha.
      I ate dal puri from Trinidad once, it was more like dal paratha and they use baking powder in it. It was very soft maybe because of the baking powder.

    • @richardwallace6313
      @richardwallace6313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Onion paratha, paneer paratha is extremely common in Indian households. Paneer is a form of fresh cheese. Modern Indian households have adopted using hard cheese as a filling. I have been having something similar since my childhood and I'm in my 5th decade now 😊.
