I HAVE been to The EBD Gear Shop👕. And as excited I was about my order (and I was - and remain - pretty excited), the hand-addressed-extra-Christmas-card-envelope that my order arrived in totally made my day.
Made me laugh my ass off when you said "welcome to cycling, where you need a special tool to do absolutely everything!" So fuckin true. Great video dude, thanks
I've found it totally depends on the tire/rim fit. I've set up road tubeless tires in about twenty minutes total (for both wheels) using a regular old floor pump. To taped fatbike rims and got a reliable set up in about an hour. Then, overconfidence spilling over, I tried and tried to mount a set of gravel tires to my gravel wheels. I tried soapy water. I tried a (massive) compressor with a $65 Prestaflator Pro. Nothing worked. The fit was just too floppy. I ended up using two more layers of tape, that worked well. The golden rule with tubeless setups: if getting the beads on the rim is at least somewhat difficult, getting a good tubeless setup will be easy. If the beads flop right on to the rim, more layers of tape are needed to tighten things up.
Love tubeless. Over five years ago I went tubeless, haven’t had a flat since on my daily 20 mile commute. I just replace a worn down rear wheel, retapped, added the tire and the stop leak goop, and within a few minutes was riding. At first my tape work looked bubbly but now it looks really nice and smooth.
This is the kind of video someone would make if they were stuck in an underground bunker alone for years without contact from the outside world. Loved it!
I love tubeless. Basically if I can run tubeless I will. There is a learning curve but it's worth it. Pro tip: I live in the land of fat and those tires can be the hardest to set up. I put strap around the center of the tire and pull it tight. This pushes the beads out to sides. 1 or 2 tries vs 10-20. I also get the Stans in the 32oz bottles. It's good stuff and a great value.
Purchasing a Topeak Joe Blow Booster tubeless floor pump has made all the difference. It's the next best thing if you don't have an air compressor. Your tip of unfolding the tires and warm in the sun or indoors is also helpful. Sometimes if the tire keeps the shape of the folds, it's difficult to seal/set the tire bead around the rim.
Dude - this video is so good. Can’t even wrap my brain around how you can make something so hilarious without being cheesy or cringey. Also - I am excited to see the difference on the pure “science” level. Happy holidays!
I made my own version of the toobibooster with a 2 liter soda bottle by drilling two holes in the cap and putting the valve stems from old innertubes in them. It has inflated several tires and not blown up (yet).
Did my first ever tubeless setup last week. Was a pain to do it wit just a floor pump but I did it. Paranoid about the bead not seating so I filled it with sealant through the valve hole. Not the best with Panaracer sealant which has a lot of solids. Also Panaracer sealant smells good. Minty fresh with a hint of nuttiness (the solids are crushed walnut shells).
I had the eyes on a good 2nd hand EA90SL wheelset in a tarmac setup for my Aspero (Cervelo) gravelbike as well, but once I got past the feeling it was getting over 600eu (700USD) things escalated quickly to the new Zipp 303s 😊 Installing them with Schwalbe Pro One tle 28mm was a bit of a struggle because there was to much space between tire and the internal rim... I had to apply just about every trick in the book: airbooster, warm-up in hot water, installing with inner tubes and leave it on overnight, big tie-down straps, some extra hands from a friend AND lots of soapy water to get the last snap (!) in the rim... In the end one layer of extra rim tape did the job! They're riding fabulous so worth the effort 😁
I use an aircan like your Topeak for inflation and I find it works better for larger tires. I figure it's a matter of surface area and the more you have, the easier the can seats the tire assuming the bead isn't deformed. I've had really good luck using the aircan with MTB tires. I just set up a new wheelset (Spinergy GXX) with SK+ 43s and it worked great, but my last wheelset has SK+ 38s and the aircan sucked, so I had no choice but to wrestle the compressor from its slumber and use real man tools.
Totally me trying to setup up tubeless for the first time...except you should have used some WTB nanos or riddlers to add a little bit of complexity to getting them on the rim, bloody thumbs would have been a nice effect in the video 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hilarious 😆!! You had me crackin up on this one. I've had mostly good results mounting tubeless tires with just a floor pump. The only tires I've needed compressed air for is for a set of Compass Bon Jovi pass ultralight casing. Specialized Pathfinder and WTB Byways snapped right on no prob with a floor pump. I have a set of Schwabe all rounds I haven't tried yet but I think they should mount up no prob.
My schwalbe g-ones only needed a floor pump. Didn't even need to remove the valve core! Same with the Pathfinder Pros on my HUNT 4-season wheelset. The Gravelkings on the otherhand...were much harder to mount the bead!
Been mostly WTB rims with WTB tires, and they've always set up with ease; only time I wrecked myself was when I was trying to put some Cazaderos on WTB rims (God damn, that took forever).
That’s a good tip bro! I once warmed up a pair of Veloflex tyres with a hairdryer and they rolled straight on, no problemo. I fancy a set of those tyre levers, carbon mm...
DK your channel and content came so far whilst staying true to form this year. Thank you so much for the hard work and entertainment though education, comic relief and story telling. 2020 has been a far king shite storm collimating in the theft of my wife’s specialized and my NSBikes Rag gravel bikes last week. What’s you thoughts on Single speed gravel grinders built in a budget 🤘👌 Happy holidays my guy!
I liked the G-One on the first seating. I did not like them when it came to refilling the sealant. Once they came off, I had to remove the old sealant all around the edges before they would seat back in. This was the 38 mm size.
So good brotha. I’m nervous to set up any of my wheels tubeless, I’ll fo sho mess something up. Hopefully my Santa Cruz setup stays good because my lbs is pretty far away. Lol
On a disc rotor, you always should have an engraved inscription, which inform you on the minimal thickness before replacement, and this inscription is supposed to be visible on the outside ^^
Sherlock Holmes was wont to smoke 1 to 3 pipes depending on the complexity of the problem. You, sir, have a three-pipe problem, there. Thank you, as well, for keeping me running tubes!
Setting up tubeless...well I tried doing ghetto tubeless with non tubeless wtb riddlers. Was going well until I jacked up the pressure to 65+ psi to try seal a wee leak and I separated the tyre wall from the bead 🤦♂️ Still, I've stuck a tube back in it and it works fine 😁 victory-ish from the jaws of defeat.
as a guy from germany: Schwalbe is a german brand and rules the market together with Continental. But I won't recomment their tires even my worst enemy! Why? Made bad experiences the last 20 years. If you want someting really good stuff: try Tufo (not tofu) from Czech Republic! Fine carcass and sticky rubber par excellence! BTW Doc Blue is the same stuff as Stan's sealant!
Really?! I'm from Italy and Schwalbe for me are the best: Marathon Plus all the way and you will travel miles with traction and without punctures...like an item that makes your bike invincible.
Never had a problem with higher volume tires. Road TL is often a wicked bitch. Best tip I got was soak tight tires in a bucket of hot water. Out of the water and on to the rim. Water helps slide the tire over the rim. Suggest letting the tire dry before inflating as I have had them blow off the rim (road) at higher pressures while wet. Second best tip was pull the last part of the tire over the rim towards you as opposed to pushing the tire with your palms away from you. More leverage and more strength.
I assume these wheels came with tubeless tape already installed. In my experience installing the tape properly can be a pain. An air compressor makes it much easier to set the bead in the rim.
Setting up tubeless: Kinda a pain, difficulty entirely depends on tire/rim combo, much easier with a air compressor. Way better than patching a tube, trail side, in winter, or any other time. If you have a bunch of bikes that don't get ridden regularly, then tubes might be better for you as any sealant will dry out in a few months. Full on fat bike tires (4-5 inch) are super hard to get set up tubeless, there's just so much floppy rubber.
Wish you did this video a week ago, I’ve got the exact same tyres....and my god were they hard to put onto the wheels. Had to take it to a bike shop, they wouldn’t go on, my hands were killing 😂

So much gold - where does one even begin.
IN the corner behind the p 29er and past the boxes...LOL
honestly, this might be my favorite video you have ever posted. it's so batty

Funnier than any video about setting up tyres tubeless has any right to be. Love your shizzile!
Glad you enjoyed it

Ok that was fun! Yesterday I finally went tubeless with the same schwalbes - had the same super easy experience with just a hand pump!
Did my first ever tubeless setup last week. Was a pain to do it wit just a floor pump but I did it. Paranoid about the bead not seating so I filled it with sealant through the valve hole. I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣.... Great episode you were on a roll Dustin. Also more profane than usual which was very on point.
LMAO! Best shop vid in along time! 10 minute job that takes an hour. Here ya! And I love working on my bikes but feel your pain.
i lost it when you were rocking the wheel to sleep with the blanket and bottle 😂 😂 😂
Good idea. Make sure you try low pressures with both !
I've watched this 4 times (to make sure I get the 2 tips! :-), and cannot stop laughing.. thanks, Dustin!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hands down the best “how to tubeless” video out there. I’m dying. 😆
Now that was a blast, much appreciativeness.....that must have been a tough edit. Awesome!

Absolutely incredible film. My day is made.
This is hilarious 😂 i meant that in a good way of course😎🤙
my man!!
Hilarious Dustin - there were portions where I think you were channeling Robin Williams !!!!!!!

@@tacconelli I had pretty much the same experience. I have the Mason Hunt four season wheels. And the Bon Jon pass tires are made by Panaracer.
Been mostly WTB rims with WTB tires, and they've always set up with ease; only time I wrecked myself was when I was trying to put some Cazaderos on WTB rims (God damn, that took forever).
Who knew, setting up tubeless could be so fun!
I LOVE THESE EPISODES SO GOOD
Hilarious! Hollywood really should take notice.
That’s a good tip bro! I once warmed up a pair of Veloflex tyres with a hairdryer and they rolled straight on, no problemo. I fancy a set of those tyre levers, carbon mm...
i feel like everyone including myself jumped on those affinity levers when they were posted on their IG !
A movie contract, for you, is only a matter of time .... Sooooo entertaining!

You most def could do this yourself! A few park tool videos and your set.
Hit me up with Qs anytime!
@@EverythingsBeenDone Thanks G, I appreciate you.
Love the energy in this one homie !
This was a delight to watch.
Peak DKlein here. Masterpiece
Great episode Justin! Thank you.
I challenge anyone to make setting up wheels as entertaining as this
On a disc rotor, you always should have an engraved inscription, which inform you on the minimal thickness before replacement, and this inscription is supposed to be visible on the outside ^^
Great tip!! thank you. I obviously didnt know. checking now! CHeers!
Sherlock Holmes was wont to smoke 1 to 3 pipes depending on the complexity of the problem. You, sir, have a three-pipe problem, there. Thank you, as well, for keeping me running tubes!
Holy shit Dustin what a video to finish out 2020! Freakin’ Hilarious!!!
Best time spent during Christmas.
Great vid as always!!!! Time to Shred!!!!!

Funny AF! Great video, DK.
the vault hub is nasty as f**k, have it on my aero 55's people know when I'm coming behind them. Love the sound it puts out.
I just need a few sets of the WTF stickies! No way to order just those? Thanks man. Great video!
Good idea! I will make this happen this next week!
can you do tire comparo test too. like how do these compare to the SimWork, UD and Hutchinson tires?
Its relatively easy once you have the right width tape. But is beyond messy. Also, may have to do it more than once if not seated right.
Top production much creative

Yeah I have thousands of km on Schwable tires, marathons, big apples, hans dampf, all have been great
gotta love the accurate depiction of how every home mechanic feels while in the shop
priceless, having done the same to my small stable of rides, relatable. THX
😂Super funny and entertaining video! thank you! 👏
Man there was a couple tense moments that I thought the bike would fall off. 😬
LOL would have been par for the course ;)
Loving " Not a mechanic"
My trek has nukeproof wheels set that are 29mm inner and Vittoria tires.
So F-ing good. You'll never see that on GCN. Especially the lighter tip, sticker thing. What was that? A special tool for absolutely everything? Yes!
new title: "a fly on the wall POV while Dustin sets up tubeless, baked"
spooky accurate

Good one Dustin. thanks
I assume these wheels came with tubeless tape already installed. In my experience installing the tape properly can be a pain. An air compressor makes it much easier to set the bead in the rim.
What's the tire's width difference after fixing in those rims?
Tune in tomorrow!!

WIOW, Glad I had two rock stars this am, no way I would have been able to keep up with out them. lol
The WTF stickers are upside down to the Easton decal...just saying.
I've only had great experiences setting up tubeless tires until I got mavic wheels. Oof
Made me laugh out loud a good few times. 👍😎🍻
Wish you did this video a week ago, I’ve got the exact same tyres....and my god were they hard to put onto the wheels. Had to take it to a bike shop, they wouldn’t go on, my hands were killing 😂
Nice stickers. But do they come in 650bruh?
They are optimized for 650 b ;)
Super easy to set up tubeless, but using Orange. Stans for cold weather
When you used the wheel as a steering wheel i lost it 😂
dustin can basically put a smile on any basterd any time any day boy you made me a happy basterd
You just crack me up!
Are there 26” rim-specific WTF stickers?
6:06 Me: Doesn't he need a chainwhip?
6:07 Dustin: Hey I need a chainwhip.
Hilarious, I needed a good laugh 😂
If you were a mechanic in a shop, you could charge an admission fee to watch the insanity. Would be worth it. 😂
How can one man cause so much chaos??? Yuletide hilarity
Hahaha your a nut job 🤣 love it!
I had a laugh, thanks for the entertainment!
Tubeless is awesome.when it works. Tubes are just easy, too easy. As easy as riding a bicycle.
I have half a bottle of sealant after a messy attempt at tubeless! Tubes are so much easier...
you wanted to know what I could have possibly enjoyed about that video? The hit you took on that pipe...
Bilbo Took the hell out of that thing!! ;)
Well that was a one hell of a hectic clip. Haha.
Relaxing the rubber, eh!
