I work with this resin. I can mix alcohol ink into it at an hour and a half after I mix it. The trick I use is to keep it in small cups - like half an ounce/15 ml per cup(when I am working with many different colors), or it will cure quickly. I love the crazy long working time. The more volume in the cup the shorter your working time, of course. As for the bubbles I do have some micro bubbles sometimes, but never ever as many as you have gotten. I come back and hit the resin 6 or 8 times with my torch over the first 3 to 4 hours of cure time. It gets rid of most bubbles the more often I go at it with the torch. This epoxy does not seem to ever get as hot at casting resin does. Maybe that's why you can't get the 3d look you want. Idk? 🤷♀️
Believe it's got an hour working time or a bit longer; according to Artist Til Death. Can't say for sure, so don't quote me, but believe they work wit it all the time. I'll try to catch their next live (usually daily) and ask them. Erika, does several beach pours with stones. They are super nice about answering questions, I put them in chat in all caps so they stand out, it's not seen as yelling. You'll succeed at this eventually! ❤❤
Mixed media girl uses this resin alot.she would be the best to ask. I thought it was 45 min to. Love watching u do these coasters I try doing them like u . Keep testing ..
I wish that you would share all your work with us even if you think they are fails! I look at these and find them more beautiful then most you do! And you know life's mistakes are our learning lessons! So sharing with us would be good for us!! Love your videos
They remind me if coral. Something from the ocean like to see a sand dollar technique. The bubbles I actually like. The others I like as well for different reasons. Put in good effort.
I love these!!! Try using a pigment that's alcohol free. With Stone Coat Countertops epoxy, using alcohol will create that bubble look that's called cells. Check out their TH-cam channel on how they use alcohol to create that specific look. Good luck!!! ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this! I was just going to start experimenting with this technique using Stone coat, and now I'm not. The working time for me is at least 45 minutes and as long as 90, depending on temperature, humidity, and all those other variables we wrestle with all the time. I've never had such bad bubbles in mine? But it's definitely very heat-resistant, so maybe you can just use it for a top coat. If you do your top coat without it being in the molds, you can torch away to your heart's content. Thanks again for sharing this and all your other knowledge.
I like the stonecoat for what it is. The flowers look like crochet lace. And, I like the frosted effect of the clear. Not What you were going for, but it has interesting properties worth investigating.
I applaud your persistence, but I would agree that the SC Resin is a no go for your flower technique. They do make a 2 to casting resin, which I heard is much thinner, however I have not tried it. Love watching all your adventures, just like watching a mad scientist in the lab :)
I was actually going to order the stone coat epoxy for the first time and try making these. Mainly cause they are one of the few I can find that are pretty heat resistant. Might hold off doing that now. Thanks for sharing your experience with this.
Good Afternoon Julie. Hope your having a Great Day! You know how you are always hopeing you are in the middle, what if you measure the back outside of the mold and place a permanent dot right in the middle of the outside bottom of your mold, just a thought. Wow i love that blue color you made. I have to tell you I don't know how you made the lacy one but I absolutely love that lacy look! Beautiful. I of course love the light pink one you did that came out perfectly. The pink one would be pretty with a sparkly back on it like you did the one that you turned over and put another layer of sparkly silver on the back of it after it was dry. What do I know just thinking out loud. Love your purple coasters you have on your table drying. Would love to see them unveiled.
Colour passion is great for making cells in resin. Either by blowing or swiping. Works great for waves or flames. Looks like you have some small cells. Think it might be the Colour Passion that is the problem, think Colour obsession might also do it to. Hope this helps.
Stonecoat is a thicker resin, especially if you're used to thin. I usually mix EXTREMELY slow, and use a heat gun, not a torch to ger the bubbles out before putting any additives in it. Then let it sit for awhile longer, and use a heat gun again just a little before adding. It seems to work alright for me!
Well, you're sure learning a lot about how different resins work, but the lovely thing (besides the fabulous artwork) is that you're taking the time to share your knowledge with all of us. I do love the "broken one". I know it's not what you were after, but I crochet and tat, and this kind of looks like handmade lace to me. You are a dear one! I wonder what would happen if you blew the air from the inside to the out? And I want to see what happens with some different shapes...like a coil or leaf shapes, but I can do that on my own time. I finally purchased a 5 gallon size vacuum chamber and pump for my resins to get rid of bubbles. I would've gotten a pressure pot instead, but I'm afraid of pressure pots. lol...Hoping I will have little to no bubbles when I finally brave up enough to try some of these lovelies. It wasn't crazy expensive, though I do consider it a major expense on my budget. You might consider something along those lines, or maybe a small vibrator thing under the table? Just thoughts. Carry on, brave leader.
Pam Miller Haha! Sorry the small under the table vibrator idea made me laugh! 🤪😆 PS I know what you meant! But the picture in my brain still elicits a laugh.
@JRRnotTolkien , yes! I used to be a dental assistant, and now am a nurse. I have the percussion vibrator because that thing really knocks the gunk out of your lungs if you're congested, but I hope to use it for de-gassing too.
You should really watch Cathii Lapierre art. She only does this technique and she has many different types of flowers. She does a step by step on how to make these flowers with resin. I do really like the pink flower and the blue one, but I love lace and they remind me of lace.
I think Stone Coat and Leggari resins are designed to release bubbles, but I think it requires misting the surface with denatured alcohol. Both have a TH-cam channels demonstrating the product.
Your resin art is beautiful and I look forward to watching you!!!! Might be worth emailing them about your problem. I had questions before I even purchased. They responded in detail and even sent a video.
I would suggest getting the stonecoat casting resin or the art coat resin from them. Also have u tried to use this resin without the white paste and just the alcohol ink. The paste could be reacting with that particular resin 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I’ve worked with stone coat resin for over 2 hours, it’s great for artwork but it’s not really made for casting. They do have one designed for what your wanting to do.
@@PouringYourHeartOut Might try Mirakleer Table Top resin. ( Cathii Lapierre art. They don't make the flowers but they do make coasters and no bubbles.
Torched it and let it sit in the mold for an hour before adding the colors? It seems like the air bubbles in the clear might be breaking up your colors. Just a thought, they're still pretty.
Depends on your room temp. If your room temp is lower than the temp the recommend for that work time, it will extend the cure time of the epoxy. Higher heat makes it cure faster.
I think the video of theirs that I watched it was said that resin has a 55 minute work time. A larger time if a larger container after they are mixed together slows the setting time also.
The stonecoat resin you have is thick and for countertops, not good at all for casting , and says 45+ Minutes work time, but I have gotten 2 hours out of it , its meant for tables and countertops. They have an art coat, but would still not be good for casting, and the bubbles are horrible with both. Its expensive so its a shame, but it is good resin to coat artwork or to coat ceramic tile coasters with. Just not casting coasters.
It still looks pretty! Have you tried KS Resin? Master Cast? I've seen people using those resins for the flower technique. I sometimes leave the petals, I don't blow the petals with a heat tool x
I love the Lacy patterns! They are different but not less beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Maybe use the other resin to get the desired result then top coat with the heat resistant so it won't mark.
Thicker resins need stirred slower or you will whip bubbles in like butter. Use alcohol, spray the tops with 91% isopropyl or denatured alcohol and it will pop bubbles without heat
Julie I think you have bought the wrong one, Mixed Media Girl uses the art coat and so do I and lots of other artists. I also stir mine alot slower and don't get many bubbles at all. I hope you don't take offense, just trying to help. They are still very pretty although not what you are going for. The art coat is an awesome resin with a long work time. I have made many coasters with it and it definitely holds up to the heat of a coffee cup. :)
Great idea....however iv seen media girl use this one more often then not for deep pours such as coaster and deep pours, coating resin is used mostly to coat artwork ect or painting with it which media girls uses alot on all that stuff......bubbles tips....stir slowly all the time, warm up before mixing a,b together and let rest adleast 5 to 10 mins before using.....use heat gun on clear resin before you put colour s that way bubbles are released in clear before the flower colours go on....hit with gun as many times u can say ever 5 min for first hour then every 20 to 30 minutes for next hour to 2 hours later the more the gun is used the more bubbles can be released........no resin is perfect their will always be bubbles... This resin has like 1.5 hours work time longer then most which is why its good....
Interesting. I know there are "casting" resins and ? something else. Guess this is just not the right type for this. Does it say anything on the bottle about thickness? If so do your coasters fall within the parameters? Those bubbles are crazy.
I have only seen video’s of people using the Stone Coat Art. Do you want the heat resistance more? I made my daughter some tile coasters with a cork back because I killed two of hers. I painted them first and waited weeks to make sure they were cured. Then I poured the gorgeous resin they sell at Spotlight. They were right when they said it looks like 40 coats of varnish. She wanted to know how I got glass on them and no bubbles. No smell either. I really hope you are using a respirator. Even the ones they say are safe are not when you heat them. 🌷
I've never worked with resin so I can't be of any help but what a shame on all those tiny bubbles after all your hard work. I give you and A for effort though.
They are pretty but it’s such a shame they didn’t work how you would have liked. Hope you find a resin you like that dosent overpower you with the smell, as I know some can be quite toxic to your lungs. Stay safe xx
If the other resins work for flowers but not heat resistant... then why not save the Stonecoat for a final surface coat applied after your coasters are hardened and finished off. You woukd get your blooms and the heat resistance and maybe no bubbles with a thin surface coat. This is what another YT coaster maker does.
Julie hun, I absolutely LUV watching you “experiment” as you call it. But it’s such a shame that you have all those bubbles in your work regardless of what resin you’re working with. So, I have been through all the resin videos again looking for a common ground and I hadn’t noticed it at first because I wanna just get my Julie fix but I have noticed that you mix your resin really fast like you do with your acrylic paint! It’s my understanding that you have to mix resin really slowly and that the temperature of the room should be 21-25c Hence why they say that you should mix for 3 minutes. As an “experiment” can you please try slowly mixing the resin without bringing the stick out of it as that adds bubbles and one more thing, over heating the resin will give you the micro bubbles too! I only use my heat gun for a second or to and I use a bbq lighter to pop bubbles as it’s the flash and flame that you need and then I give it a mist of isopropyl alcohol and then let it do it’s witchcraft cause we all know that resin does what it wants rather than what we want. But, don’t be deflated Julie, you have both of the resins that you need so use one for the blooming flowers and then just put your heat resistant flood coat on the top depending upon which side you choose. Yes it might take a day longer but it’s not wasting any resin and if use less on the Delcam for example then maybe it could also work out cheaper for you? It’s just a thought? Good luck with your work and I hope you get the results you are looking for! Stay safe down there. xXx

Like these too. Reminds me of an aquarium or the ocean. It's own world. Like the others for my own reasons as well but, I agree with you.
The stone coat ART resin doesn’t do that sounds like you bought the counter top resin for redoing your counter

Can i ask you, what bags you buy? I tried this and the resin got too hot and melted through the bags 🤭 do you put them in bags last minute? Thanks
I wonder if its the inks that are causing that issue with the petals.... just a thought
Perhaps the bubbles are making the petals separate?

Another thing you can do.. is do a flood coat of the Stone Coat you have for the heat resistant aspect.. With that said, I’m a big stone coat fan..
It might be for the same reason I was having trouble with one of mine, can only do 1/8 inch ( 3 mm) deep with the resin at a time.❤️❤️❤️
