I would like to see yall repeat this but test some custom ordered arrows built the same way but have the shop spine index them and then shoot them against your knocked tuned arrow and see how they compare.

Warb, I noticed on release and before the arrow leaves the rest, your grip changes slightly. Right at release your 2 fingers clench by instinct so you won't drop the bow. A wrist sling can prevent this by giving your mind comfort in knowing the bow won't fall if held loosely. Slings let you follow through with the shot and the bow will naturally tilt forward after release. It is a minor adjustment, but every little thing helps. You obviously shoot great already and this is just a suggestion to tweak it a tad further in the off season.

Moving your hand or fingers in any way can/ WILL create accuracy issues. If your form and technique isn’t really good how are you going to get reliable test results?

Easier to put in the hard work & get used to not gripping the bow with that strap loose around the wrist. I really like it Warb that u show stuff like this. So sick of watching hunt vids where the shots aren't even anything but a wing it & a prayer.
Better to make that loop large enough to put over a glove cuz u don't ever want it tight. Firenock makes matching weights that aren't batteries. So u can have your best 6 arrows with batteries & the other 6 with the matched grained weights. No more batteries getting drained on practice arrows. It's totally do-able to have a dozen arrows that r all within 1 grain or less of each other. Builds confidence between u & your equipment which helps u throughout the long season ahead.

About 45 years ago, The guy at the Archery Shop was selling wrist slings, boasting it improves accuracy, which it does, in a controlled situation, like Practicing Shooting Targets, but in a real world, high pressure, Hunting situation, like when your day dreaming , around 11:00 in the morning, and your brought back to earth, by the sound of hoofs , crashing thru the woods, as the Biggest Buck of your life, Comes by chasing a Doe,
at 100 m.p.h... believe me, your not gonna be able to think about trying to get your hand thru that stupid wrist sling in time, for anything. Just train yourself to shoot good, without it. One less thing to worry about. Better off using the K.I.S.S system , when pursuing Big Bucks under Murphy's Law.

I start that process during build. The straightest and most consistent in weight will get marked for later quiver testing. Also for off season, you can make practice nocks with a normal nock and some grub screws or brass all threads screwed in to weight match your lighted nocks. Handy trick when you run out of dead cells. Just take a scale and nock to the hardware store to find the right pitch and length for the extra weight needed.

I got my five hunters marked up and quivered a couple weeks ago. I might check them out slo-mo style, but all indications are that they are flying like darts. Three out of my dozen of Gold Tip Kinetic Kaos were the only wonky ones, but they were super consistent wonky....low and right - I was slinging some Kentucky windage shots with them the other day and stacking them at 38yds. Dudes...i am super pumped for my first bow season! Oldschool public duck chaser going after mature bucks with a bow for the first time. Just pulled a trail cam on some public this morning....and one shot - one pic amid all the false trips, doe, coyotes and hogs - was a really nice tall, heavy eight point. Am ready to have a little sharpening session following y'all's and Ranch Fairy instructions. Did I mention I was pumped? I'm pumped.

Great demonstration, thanks for the time and effort...But...please educate yourself & others about what 'Archer's Paradox' really is.....
The archer's paradox is the phenomenon of an arrow traveling in the direction it is pointed at full draw, when it seems that the arrow would have to pass through the starting position it was in before being drawn, where it was pointed to the side of the target.
The bending of the arrow when released is the explanation for why the paradox occurs and should not be confused with the paradox itself.
Congrats on your elk...great vid. 👍👍

Great video boys , I shoot all my hunting arrows with my hunting broadheads on and just sharpen them to hunt, I never swap the broadhead from arrow to arrow as this makes a big difference with a 2 blade head , as the broadhead catches the air leaving the bow in a different way , try it , get a arrow shoots say nock high and look at your head orientation if it's horizontal or something similar then screw a head on that sits vertical will normally shoot perfect , that's why I shoot a 3blade head now , got equal plaining sides .🧙‍♂️

Another option is to stand facing away from a tree and mount your phone so it’s peering over your shoulder. I use a cheap “bendy leg” phone tripod mount and attach it to a low hanging branch. Sure it’s not as convenient as having someone else there, but it will give very stable footage if it’s not too windy. This can also be used to check your anchor point positioning 👍

I know just by saying im hunting with a crossbow in Michigan im gonna get a few cringes and possible negative remarks... so lets get that out of the way now.
Last year I used the Bolts given to me with the Crossbow (as a gift).
The broadheads were 100 grain and a standard point with 3 fixed blades. The bolt or arrow was only 100 grains as well.
After watching a few videos on arrow tuning and whatnot I decided that because my crossbow is a Recurve style, (not an inverted or compound style)
that is shoots slower than newer faster bows on the market today.
The standard factory specs stated it was 280 fps and 165lb draw.
This year I am shooting carbon express 125 grain bolts paired with an Allen chisel point broadhead, also 125 grains(still 3 fixed blades). The new broadheads and using also have an increased cutting diameter of 1/8 of an inch.
I have noticed that when it hits the bag it sounds much stronger and really "smacks" hard at 30 yards. Im also noticing I didnt loose much at all if any loss of speed leaving the Crossbow.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated as I am still a new hunter and face the challenges of public land with no private land to hunt.
Thank you to any and all that respond I truely appreciate it!

    No problems with aluminum!

    • @Bartimusblue27
      @Bartimusblue27 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

There are a shitload of problems with aluminum, like bending during practice and turning into an accordion or blunderbus from a hard impact while hunting.
The slight benefit that comes with the lack of spine that comes from extrusion manufacturing, is far outweighed by their fragility in the field.
They are the reason for a lot of passthrough shots due to the unique way the material handles columnar loading and transfering the load in line with the shaft, but renders them useless after the shot.
When you look at old hunting videos where they take a shot at close range, the arrow impacts going fast'AF and practically falls out the other side, that shaft will have a couple of spots along the shaft where it compressed and deformed as the energy waves moved foward alond the shaft (making it look like an accordian when you run a straigtness gauge across the shaft). This increases the moment of inertia and allows the shaft to keep moving at the cost of deforming the projectile.
This is also why rhinehart targets used to recommend againt shooting their targets with aluminum because of the frequency of ruined arrows.

On arrow number 3, I think you shot it where the nock was originally and weren't happy, turned the nock 1/4 turn and still weren't happy, turned the nock another 1/4 turn and was happier, but still felt it was not as good as arrows 1 and 2, so you stopped, set that arrow aside as better but not as good as arrows 1 & 2. Why didn't you turn the nock another quarter turn and try (so it would be 3/4s of a rotation for original position)? From the little I understand, it seems like that was an unexplored nock position that potentially could have been as good as arrows 1 & 2. Am I mistaken?

It comes with quality. You get what you pay for. If you buy a .006 straightness dont expect .001 straightness accuracy. Also having an arrow perfectly square on both ends can make those .006 arrows so much better. If spun and cut properly you can turn a bad arrow into a pretty darn good arrow. Something that can help fix having to go in the yard and chance losing an arrow shoot your arrows a 3ft 7ft and 11 ft through paper if you wanna be super anal and it can really eliminate any issues with broadheads moving forward. Peace of mind is great!

That’s great advice I’ve been tuning bows and arrows for 40 years and starting with the straightest shaft , and squared shafts is doing yourself a great favor when beginning to tune, ( you can purchase tool , made for arrows, to square them.

Your turning the natural spine of the arrow. Next time find the natural spine before fletching them. With both ends of arrow shafts sealed. Dunk them in a bath tub. Let them float until they stop spinning. The side facing down is your natural spine. Then fletch your vertical vane directly on that mark. Set knock with that vane at 12 o'clock. Your broadhead should aliment exactly the same also. If not...heat and turn insert until the blade are all the same. For 2 blades. Lay them at 9 and 3 o'clock. I guarentee you wont have problems with strays. If they shoot erratic. The shaft is not consistent.

Another thing that helps with 2 blade broadheads is orienting them the same on every arrow. Some two blades fly better flat some fly better vertically aligned sometimes you might have to do the same thing as the nock and rotate it slightly to find how that broadhead, bow, and arrow combination shoot the broadhead best. To be able to orient the broadhead the way you want buy small rubber o-rings, then you can screw them on and rotate them how you want and they are still tight on the arrow. All my broadheads are oriented flat that’s just the way my longbow and arrows like to shoot that particular head some broadheads I shoot they like vertical. But having the broad head turned the same every time definitely makes a difference. Honestly more of a difference than the knock in my opinion. I can’t imagine that a carbon arrow has that much difference in spine that turning the knock would make a huge difference but it did seem your arrows got slightly better when you made the adjustment. Turning the broadhead is just another way to make your arrows more consistent.

What lighted nocks are you shooting with the Apollo’s? I have the Apollo’s as well but haven’t found a lighted nock that fits with them yet? Used to shoot FMJ’s and would use an x nock but have had trouble finding some for the Apollo’s

Why are you dropping your bow forward? You are forcing that movement even though your bow is tilting back.

Looks like you need to work on your string/peep site. Doing all the work on your arrows won’t help one bit if you can’t see through the peep when you draw! You shouldn’t have to twist the string like that before each shot.

I love watching guys spend 25 bucks an arrow to elk hunt add weights wraps etc when you can shoot an aluminum arrow for 8 bucks and get 500 grains without trying with 125 grain head

Shoot bullshit arrows get bullshit results- victory arrows come spined and marked from factory build them right and it’s done .
Or on cheaper arrows just spine test and mark them your self using spine tester , throw out the bad ones

Never twist your nock on the string, good way to pop serving. Also your tuning at 20 yards, pointless. Further back you go the more pronounced the inconsistency get.
