While live streaming, I got asked a question that I thought some people might be interested in hearing the answer. While I miss some details, and there's a lot more to both of these games, I aimed at trying to be brief and leave a bit of room for discovery and self-enjoyment.
Arma 3 and Arma Reforger both have their place. Arma 3 currently has a much better way of building and handling custom-designed scenarios and infinitely more fine-tuned mods, allowing for a truly unique experience.
Arma Reforger is on a much more up-to-date engine, though, and has modern features many gamers will intuitively adapt to versus having to learn 1000 keybinds in Arma 3 before adding mods. Arma Reforger is much more focused on the PvP experience, aiming for a PvPvE scenario; however, many of the larger servers turn off the AI that is supposed to be present to run more optimized servers for a cleaner PvP fight.
Arma Reforger is available on PC and Xbox Series S and X, allowing Crossplay w/ Mod Support. BIS (developers) state they have plans for a PS5 release of Arma Reforger sometime in the future.

It shows the strength of Arma 3 that it is still very relevant 10 years later
The fact the Game Engine is effectively from the late 90s early 00s as well is also a statement to BIS development. One of the last few developers still actively embracing mods in a positive light for the most part.

@Adam-kk7nw Simplified: A few of the BIS devs during Arma 3 were arrested in Greece for taking pictures of military bases in secure areas. They were released.

Thanks for the video long time arma 3 player just bought Reforger as i noticed a huge drop in attendance public servers so i bought it to see maybe everybody is hanging out in Reforge. But the years gone by and i am older, harder to jump onto new platforms I move like a snail. But still have a good shot haha
Reforger isn't the same crowd as Arma 3 by a long shot but it's not high speed go time like other games (HLL/Squad etc).
I come from Warzone lol, been enjoying operation harsh doorstop and hell let loose was definitely not my play style, im more of a rush player. What do you think I should buy been thinking about squad or arma( I want realistic graphics)
Squad and Hell Let Loose play similar to each other, especially since Squad's recent infantry overall. Arma 3 with mods can be very pretty, but most PvP servers, you'll be in the middle of the road with graphics. Reforger isn't stable yet but is pretty out the gate and run n gun tactics can be implemented, but get punished hard for mistakes.
@@Rectorol does squad have pvp servers or modes? I like the tactical game style but also just like being kill hungry lol
@@LordOfTheDabz Squad is only PvP, there's different modes like battlefield Invasion/Conquest but no Rush or FFA, there's some cool Star Wars and Zombie mods as well. You can server hop for games in "seed mode" in Squad though where it's condensed and quick PvP for practice and there are custom servers, but kill runs are hard to impossible in Squad with the overhaul especially Solo, Sniping is very satisfying but time intensive. You honestly might want to look at Enlisted, closer to Warzone in movement but less pretty. WW2 Free to play but does have some P2W aspects, Mainly 10v10 where when you die you swap into an AI in your squad so it feels large scale and the bots add a cool background to PvP inside of, you can in theory kill the same player 8 times in a matter of 10 seconds that are direct controlling their bots, very satisfying.

Use the svd with armor piercing rounds and the arco, 1 shots from basically any distance

KOTH is a lot more sweaty than Reforger IMO, but you also have Jets/Artillery/Attack Helicopters requiring it, where we have none of that yet in Reforger. They both are fun but different. Thanks for dropping by the stream and asking btw ;)

Idk if I'm stupid, but I could not for the life of me find a way to edit my loadout of the stuff I wanted with the mods I downloaded... in Arma Reforger, I was expecting like an arsenal like Arma 3, but idk. Again not sure if I'm small brain but Idk the way to download mods also put me off (I understand it's to be user friendly) but still nothing beats Arma 3 for me...when it comes to realistic combat scenarios like co op missions n stuff.
The Inventory Management in Reforger is worse than Arma 3's Arsenal but it's on par with Arma 2 in my opinion. 100% agree on Arma 3, if I'm looking for that co-op or scenario focus I'm not booting up Reforger for a reason. It's a PvP game at heart right now.
Arma 3 was a step backwards in the series compared to Arma 2. AI are a perfect example of this when you compare 2 and 3. 2, when modded properly with TPWCAS + ASR, offers the most realistic AI possible in the series (cover, concealment, pacing, grouping, etc). Even AI modders for 3 recognize this basic fact. And, when you couple this with Arma 3 being heavily coop, it shows what an underwhelming title it really is.
Reforger possesses many similar mechanics and graphics compared to VBS4 (which gives me hope).
I disagree that Arma 3 was a step backwards that being said, the engine with modders in Arma 2 was already pretty close to it's limits with what AI could do. Arma 2 was lighter on the processor in general and allowed most servers to just process AI better, but with Headless Client in Arma 3 with ACE's AI overhaul I think they're in a much better spot than Arma 2 ever was but that could just be faulty memory of mine, I messed with AI in Arma 3 more than I ever did in Arma 2.
Arma 3 vanilla equipment and story was dogcrap verses Arma 2 for sure though, and modes like Domination and CTI got sadly lost in the shuffle between games replaced with Alits Life and KOTH. I would have like to have just seen Arma 2 refurbished while they worked on the new Enfusion engine.
Arma 3's additions of Zeus, FFV, and Mod Launcher/Workshop, was a great step forward though and as much fun as MCC was, allowed for more immersive customized and dynamic missions and how I personally enjoying Arma the most. I definitely wouldn't be complaining if it had been an overhaul DLC/Expansion for Arma 2 instead of a standalone game though, it always has felt more like an Arma 2.5.
You gave me a brief trip down memory lane, and I thank you for that, when I helped stand up an Arma 3 group when the game launched I had series of long discussions with people with the topic of "How Arma 2 was Better than Arma 3 and we should go back."
Arma 3 with all the immersion mods over reforger all day! The stealth movement animations in reforger I just can't get over. It looks so goofy. It blows my mind that I am still playing a game thats over a decade old.
I agree Arma 3 is currently way more immersive and more scenario-friendly. If I'm doing PvE-style missions, I'm booting up Arma 3 still. Reforger's Conflict is insanely better than King of the Hill for PvP though.
how is the server selection on reforger?
Good, but not great. There's a good chunk of PvP offficial and non official, but the modded PvP server admins tend to get a bit too involved sometimes in game flow. PvE is a cluster for the most part right now.
The problem with arma 3 is that I can never find lobbies. Arma reforger has given me tons of multiplayer gameplay in the span of like three days lol.
Yeah, Arma 3 is unfortunately reduced to Private Groups outside of a select few servers and modes (KOTH/Altis Life). Makes it tricky to audit and find the right fit.
Look for Warlords game mode on Arma 3. Really fun. It’s similar in PVP concept to Conflict on Reforger.
Personally I couldn't stand the AI in Arma 3 in Arma 2 I'd spend hours in the scenario editor setting up battles I can't say exactly why but the AI in A2 was way more satisfying to fight against then in A3. I think the devs probably felt the same way since I notice a major step backward in Reforger almost like they brought back the A2 AI and started there, it's worse AI technically but gameplay wise they are more fun to fight against.
Launch Arma 3 AI was worse than A2 at peak performance As much as I miss some awesome things from Arma 2 (domination AI was so fun to fight), the increased control for dynamic on the fly missions was way better in Arma 3. I think a large chunk of it was the engine's limitations. When we ran Headless Client with some AI improvement mods they were downright insane to fight against plus we were constantly managing it with Zeus.
IF BOHEMIA WOULD STOP BEING IGNORANT AND ADD A CONTROLLER LAYOUT (EVEN IF ITS THE REFORGER LAYOUT) INTO ARMA 3 THEN ITD BE SO MUCH EASIER TO PLAY OVERALL, I REALLY WANT TO PLAY ARMA 3 I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT USED TO HAVE A BETTER CONTROLLER SUPPORT (3RD PARTY) METHODS BUT NOW CREATED PRESETS RARELY WORK FOR SUITABKE AMOUNT IF TIME AND IT SICKENS ME NOT EVERYONE CAN COMPREHEND KEYBOARD AND MOUSE IF I COULD THEN I WOULD BUT ITS ALSO ABOUT OTHERS THAT PREFER CONTROLLER AS WELL
IIRC: If you go into Big Picture Mode in Steam and Manage Games and then into Arma 3, you should be able to configure your controller there. I haven't played on a PC with a controller in a long time, so I'm not sure if they've moved it around at all.
Everyone knows board games beat console and pc easy.
The true rats camped Australia in Risk and always spied first for a better Stratego, it was a true roll of the dice to see how fast you could progress in Life in board games, at least in my opinion I was a bit busy trying solve the mystery and find a Clue.

The console boys are usually drunk and playing on speakers and more worried about using slurs than winning, Reforger's fun times.
A3 all the way. All the features that Reforger has you can do with A3 workshop. Reforger also requires a far stronger GPU which is the most expensive PC component. Lots more gamers have strong CPUs which favor Arma 3 rather than a top notch GPU and so Reforger really suffers. For the little amount of assets and map sizes that Reforger has it should run a lot faster. If it ever gets close to A3 amount of content and assets you will be running at 20 FPs
My only problem with this argument is it's the same one I heard when Arma 3 first came out as well (arma 2 could do everything 3 could with mods). I do agree Arma 3 is more optimized for AI and large assets, and for the unique PvE experience there is almost no comparission out there. Reforger is getting more optimized every patch, but it almost completely dependent upon PvP modes and playstyles currently.
Completely agree with you! I am sure Reforger and specially Arma 4 will eventually surpass all previous titles. It is just that we are a couple years away from that still@@Rectorol
I agree but also want to add the rapid rate Reforger has been improved upon. I got it around launch and it was virtually unplayable due to server/game crashes, low FPS and bugs- a year later and it actually runs quite smooth even in 64vs64 player servers. For me its getting hard to go back to A3 just due to how outdated the graphics, mechanics and overall interfaces are
@@cammosesSHSame. 100% agree. I had 3000+ hours on A3, but have not really been back since AR came out. It’s so intuitive and immersive. But I prefer PVP, so that makes a difference
