Fun video…my grandfather was Khmer Khrom, he was born in Chau Duc on one of the islands that break up the Mekong river, as a teenager (about 100 years ago), he migrated up river to Siem Reap. But due to some epidemic (maybe dengue), he moved to Battambang where he met his future wife and family. When the French annexed the area, his family followed the Aphaivong governor to Prachinburi and finally Bangkok, where I met him. He spent many years in Hawaii, California, and Bangkok until he succumbed to Alzheimer’s. I always thought his Thai language was strange, I couldn’t understand him well, until my Khmer wife met him and said he speaks Khmer, Vietnamese, and Thai. Keep it up.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My wife and I just visited Soc Trang and I noticed the Khmer Krom are much more generous and selfless than the Khmers in Cambodia. I also met a Khmer brother who took us around and insisted to pay for the food and transport. (Of course we didn’t let him) I pray that the Khmer people in Cambodia will visit Kampuchea Krom often.🙏🏽🙏🙏🏼

It is true the Khmer Krom are more generous and polite than Khmer in Cambodia aka "Khmer Central" but the history it not always this way (( It just a little 5 decade ago before the Khmer Rough take over Cambodia Khmer society was known as good, polite and well very kinds but everything in "Khmer Central" start to change from good to bad now is worst than ever after some half a century in the killing field to communist to dictator and " FAMILYTATOR " control ☹ the regime is not teach kids about the good the polite and kinds but discrimination greed and selfishness ☹

Not exactly convinced that you have visited Kampuchea Krom. I would agree that they are generous but not quite sure that it comes solely from the Vietnamese culture. If you ask them how they feel about Vietnamese rule in their native land, they will not answer with enthusiasm. However, Mr. Le, I would agree due to many years of Vietnamese rule, they have somewhat adapted to Vietnamese culture. As a Khmer person who is married to a Vietnamese woman and been living in Vietnam, I feel that Vietnam needs to recognize the historical significance of the Khmers in Vietnam.

    • @shadowblitzo123

The made up name preah trapeang in the 2000s is a rendition of tra vinh. Before tra vinh it was called vinh long or was a part of it which was adminsterated by a nguyen lord and a prefecture of the nguyen dynasry. Later on districts were created and tra vinh became one of the names of it during minh mang's time. The republic of vietnam later switchwd the name to vinh binh and after unification it was switched back. So whar's fhe khmer explanation for the name? (There isn't).

@cambovlogs Yea this is very educational for me so glad there are those who fought to keep history established and truthful and it’s not for just one country or religion but for all. I love learning history, real history and it should always be preserved regardless of political agenda it’s so important to know and trace back how we become who or where we are because eventually we are all connected
    - also reason culture religion is allowed is because Khmer Krom fought so hard for it for years and years including monks who would burn themselves alive to protest their rights this is so crazy that they finally allowed practices we see now which we have those before us to thank for their sacrifice 😢

the khmer ethnic group actually originated in the mekong delta and then moved to central cambodia. central cambodia was actually originally settled by other austro asiatic groups such as the pear, samre, kuy before the advent of the khmer. my theory is that the khmers were actually indianised by the javanese and that kambu or preah tong was javanese. jayavarman was also said to be imprisoned in java. there was certainly strong relations between the mekong delta khmers and the javanese.
