KHMER KROM IN VIETNAM | Spirit of Asia

Khmer settlements could be found in river basins. The Khmer Krom, also called the Lower Khmer people, settled in the lower zones along the Mekong River, the part before the river releases into the sea. Khmer Krom people don’t reside in Kampuchea. Before the Kinh people, or the Vietnamese, migrated southwards, the Khmer Krom had a majority population in the region. They continue to preserve their ways of life, traditions, and other aspects of cultural heritage. Due to the Khmer Krom’s cultural preservation, Southern Vietnam has a distinctive landscape set apart from the country’s other regions. Following the end of war and conflict among ethnic groups, a pluralistic society emerged from new forms of organization and relationships.
