  • Changed the oil at the 100 hour mark on the 2 VX Deluxe's. Thought I would share one of them. This is the third oil change, following the factory manual. Let me know if there is anything that I need to do differently.

If you own a Yamaha with a TR-1HO engine then this is the site to watch to check or change your oil. I watched a bunch of videos and this was the only one that showed the hose and “second” reservoir that needed to be emptied and refilled. Thank you!

I believe that the reason they recommend siphoning the oil from the dipstick hole first is because the oil is draining back into the crankcase from the time you shut the motor off, which would explain why he got more oil out of the crankcase after getting it out of the oil tank. The reason they recommend adding oil to both filler holes is because the oil tank will fill up before you get all 3.5 quarts in through the dipstick hole. I learned this the hard way. By adding oil to both holes saves time not having to wait for the oil to drain out of the oil tank. Good video!

The only thing that I do different, is once the oil filter is off, put the siphon tube down the oil filter hole. Should get a couple more ounces more out of it. Good job!

punch a hole in top of oil filter and it will drain out before you take it off. just a small vent hole will do

It says right on the side on Yamahas filters to oil the o ring. The grease on there just keeps the seal fresh and will make a better seal when put on the machine. High quality stuff.

Great video, well done, clear and concise. I would suggest to use a 1qt measure, that way you will always know how much you put in.

Very well done video! I just finished doing my 2017 vx deluxe thanks to you! Only thing that took some getting used to was trying to hold and pour the huge gallon of oil into the small hose without overflowing and spilling it all over. I recommend getting a quart size bottle and splitting it up for each side. Its more of a pain but less messy. Alt least for me. Also, a few of rags on hand is useful.

Wow, thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. My Waverunner EX has the same engine and should be the same procedure. Yamaha dealership wants $200/ski to change the oil and I have 2. Just saved me a lot of money. Thanks a bunch...

Thanks for the video. Picked up my skis after dealer oil change. Kid behind the counter says " I've never done oil change on a jetski before...that was neat". Checked my oil to find it at "full" while ski is ice-cold. Wonder how overfilled it is.

First video of the TR1 oil change procedure that correctly calls out the torque specs on the oil filter. You don't just "hand tighten" them and hope for the best. The shop manual calls out the torque specs for this (17 Nm or 12.5 ft. lb.).

Nice job. I just bought a 2018 ex sport with less than 10 hrs. I’m still confused on ckg oil. I didn’t get no manual But when it hasn’t run I don’t see anything on the stick now I just took it out for a 20 min ride and when i take out the stick i can see the oil. So do you really have to be careful about just letting it run a few minutes rather than getting it really hot ?? Help pls

My oil filter is leaking do I have to remove all the oil to change the filter? Or because it’s on top I shouldn’t have to?

OK question here for anybody that could help me I have a 2018 Yamaha VX cruiser and the first time I’ve ever owned one and definitely an amateur at this. I went to check the oil straight cold and it was low. I added a quart but I haven’t done anything to try to start or anything cause a battery went dead fortunately now after watching this video, it says that I have to warm the jet ski up first so now I’m afraid that there could possibly be a court too much what do I do or how do I know? by looking into the crank case I don’t see any oil in there, so I don’t know if I’m supposed to be seeing some or not. do I need to siphon that quart out and then start the engine then I’m afraid that if I was low on oil, I don’t wanna be running the engine. I don’t know you guys have all the experience in the world. can you tell me what what I should do which direction to take. If for any input thank you.

    Hi
Yamaha service change my oil last spring and after that I use my 2017 Waverunnner VX Deluxe about 6 hours last summer.
Now when I check the oil after this winter the oil dipstick is completely dry, no oil at all on the stick (the engine has not been turned on).
I guess I should see some oil on the dipstick even if the engine is cold? Did they forget to add oil last spring? :|

      @jayfamfriendsadventures523  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

These are not like your car that has an oil pan that you can check the level with your dipstick anytime. To check the oil the waverunner needs to be level, the engine needs to be run for about 6-10 minutes to warm up - with water running through the cooling system, then checked immediately once shut off. The procedure is on page 53 of the free Yamaha service manual that came with the waverunner. Just be sure to never run the engine without water properly running through the cooling system.

Tilapic not they are charging 6 hours. I got mine winterized and oil changed by dealer as I ran out of time once it never went back after I got the bill. 120 and I supplied the oil and antifreeze as I planned on doing it myself

Very good video!! After you warm the engine before extracting, take a nail and punch a little hole in top of oil filter. It'll let the oil drain from filter back into engine. Less of a mess when you remove filter.

Do you warm it up first? You have to check the oil after the ski is warmed up and you have just shut it down. You can’t check it cold as per the owners manual.

Good job on the video. At what rpm does your sled idle at? I have the same sled and mine wants to idle at 3000 rpm.

    • @jayfamfriendsadventures523

Thanks - That is too high, should be around a 1,000 - don't have the exact. The easy checks are for any air leaks on intake components and make sure the throttle is closing all of the way. Otherwise, might be electrical. Easy check is to make sure all of your connectors looks secure - for temp sensors and throttle body...Good luck.
