  • This is a companion to my 2019 Waverunner EX Sport Oil Change video ( • 2019 Yamaha Waverunner... ) it covers how to change the oil filter and how to pull out the oil in the bottom of the engine with the advance filling procedure required. The method covered in the first video is sufficient for maintaining the machine under normal use and if the oil gets changed regularly. If you are not comfortable performing these additional steps the first video covers the essential procedures.

    Great video and thanks for the reply. Good to see the oil filter part👍 I have the same pump and it works great. Not sure if you know but the ridges on the pump container are liter measurements. That’s how I knew how much oil to put back in. I’m not 100% but I don’t think the Yamalube is synthetic but regardless it’s what Yamaha says to use so that’s why I use. 👍

      I misspoke, it is not synthetic (really appreciate you pointing that out). What was meant to be conveyed, it is a high-quality oil. If someone is not going to be as diligent with their oil changes, purchasing a synthetic oil would be a good idea. Yes, the ridges are for measuring. I prefer a measuring cup, so the amount of oil extracted can be measured to the ounce. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share help details!

    Great video! I have question. How would we know when to change the oil for both the engine and reservoir (this video) and when to change the oil only for the reservoir (previous video)?

      My recommendation is to do the full service once a year if you never reach the hours mark before the time interval. Thanks for watching!

    Ya great video. Does he jet drive need any maintenance

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, at 100 hours or 12 months, there are a few items that should be greased. Specific to the jet drive, applying grease to the nozzle pivot points. I will be making a video on all the 100 hours service items. Check back this fall for that video, and thanks for watching.

    @Andy'sGarageAdventures - made a newbie mistake before seeing your great video. I put 3L of oil into the top oil tank where you said not to....on the 2019 EX..How should I proceed?

    • @andysgarageadventures8043

      I would pump some out and then add it into the top of the valve cover. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Does the engine have to be level for accurate oil readings and measurements? I believe the guy before me overfilled the oil because of this. Thus, I won’t necessarily replace all the oil measured when I take it out.

    What size is that hose (attached to your oil extractor) that you are using to go down the rubber hose to extract the oil? Also... what funnel is that? And... what size oil filter socket/wrench? Thanks!

      @andysgarageadventures8043  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      This is the oil extraction pump I'm using: www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-647570-Oil-Fluid-Extractor/dp/B00OCEGONC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1VR67YL8C7MVC&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8j3dnQePNQx3hRVzK2OBmA.ANUmxdYazeb4fRWAP3DXw7UEHSBQwdKJ66oo80bEEf4 and this is the funnel: www.harborfreight.com/18-inch-long-neck-black-funnel-66479.html?_br_psugg_q=long+funnel. Both links contain the specs. I believe the tube on the Waverunner to extract the oil has an inner diameter of 1/4 - 3/8 and inch. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    What happens to the wave runner if a quart of oil is poured from the top cap? Will it cause any problems?

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  ปีที่แล้ว

      The best thing to do is extract one quart from the engine, but at the end of the day, it should equalize with the reservoir assuming it has room. It really shouldn't do any big harm, but technically depending on how much it is overfilled, it will burn oil or make it foamy, causing heavier engine wear. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I accidentally pour all my 3 liter oil to the top part. It will course anything?

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it should. You can also pull some oil back out and then pour it into the reservoir.

    I took out 3 and replaced just over 3. Dip stick shows it’s good. Hmmm. Hard to read on this ski.

      I wouldn't worry about it. If you checked the level and it was correct the exact amount of oil doesn't matter. Thanks for watching!

    Does this apply to the 2022 yamaha ex sport as well? Have they changed anything?

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 2022 uses the TR1 engine same as the 2019. The procedure will be the same. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Thanks!! 10 hr Oil change was perfect. Have put about 3 hours on it since oil change and everything is working well. Re checked oil level and it is perfect.
      Just out of curiosity- do you recommend winterizing if it is stored in a garage? If so, what are the steps/ most important things to do? Thanks!

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jordanmoon6151 I have a video on yearly maintenance. From that video, I would lubricate the throttle body and drain the fuel water separator. Other than that not much else is required for winter storage.

    I find anything over 1 quart in the reservoir it starts to overflow.

    • @mtomaszewski192

      I have the same issue. I put about 2 quarts and it because that’s how much i got out of there. definitely reads high on my dipstick. Do you know if that’s just a wrong reading and the correct amount of oil is still in? In total I put back in what I took out.

    • @spaceradar
      @spaceradar ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm also unsure how much there should be. After the winter, I checked the dipstick and the bottom of it was barely oily (ran fine last season, and the previous oil change was done by authorized service). I then let the engine run for a bit, waited a few minutes and rechecked, and to my surprise it was literally full to the cap. I then managed to suck a measly 1.5 quarts out of it. Refilling the same amount resulted in the oil level being seemingly too high, but I guess since it was fine with the same amount, it will be now as well. Haven't put it in the water yet, though.

    you should start the engine before changing the oil

    • @andysgarageadventures8043
      @andysgarageadventures8043  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is much easier to get the oil out if it is warm. Just be sure to connect a garden hose if you’re on land and going to run the engine to avoid damaging it. I detail the process in this video: th-cam.com/video/zKBXVlYFIIs/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!

    Do not half-butt this oil change, do the full ‘advanced’ oil change or else you risk over filling.

    What a strange arrangement. Not completely out-of-line for Yamaha though. The old V-Star 1100 required removing the entire exhaust system to change oil/filter. Wacky stuff, these Yamahas.

      @@andysgarageadventures8043 It'll take some getting used to. Nothing as crazy as the Vstar 1100. I need to order the shop manual to avoid gotchas.

      That is not always the case. Currently look to Quaker State 10W40 All Mileage conventional...highest tested film strength of any conventional oil ever produced and bests many synthetics as well. Look no further than WalMart.
