When I moved out of my parents' houses to live on my own I bought the total bare essentials. The nonessentials I copped super cheap from auctions, car boots etc. You can get far with 2 plates, 2 bowls, a set of cutlery, a frying pan, a saucepan, a spatula, and a sharp knife. Unless you're already big on cooking, just start with the minimum possible. When you start missing a utensil then go out and buy it because you know you'll use it. The exception to just buying things when you start to miss them might be if you're moving to London, which of course would be much more expensive. When buying a tin opener, don't get the cheapest one there, spend a couple pound extra to get one that works.
Really depends what food you cook as to what utensils you need. Slotted spoon was one of my most used items to be honest so everyones kitchen needs will be personal
Can you do a video about how to make notes at uni/the differences in the learning styles because I got so used to revising for school exams and I am a bit apprehensive about what it’s going to be like at uni... love this video btw! Xx
As someone who did 6 years at uni it's so interesting seeing others journeys, especially so early on. Reflect on this again in a few years you'd be surprised how much your opinion changes again.
Regarding the kitchen stuff, yes you can usually share with your flatmates but if like me you quickly realise that your flatmates aren't fond of washing up and will regularly leave stuff for a week before washing it, keep some kitchen stuff in your room, otherwise you'll be having to do their washing up before you can cook. Poundland do great little baskets for bathroom stuff or cleaning stuff, or general storage, and get a fan because once the hot weather comes the shops will sell out. Be prepared for a heatwave! Also under bed storage boxes are a good idea so you can keep your spare stuff out the way :)
@@joshuathompson7333 My housemates would just leave stuff and then forget it was theirs so it would take ages for the washing up to be done. Thankfully I don't live with them anymore!
i'd love a video on advice for new Y13s who didn't do the whole revise-as-you-go-along thing in Y12? not sure where i'm gonna find time to revise old content whilst learning new stuff?? especially for english lit! help!!
I know it’s not very helpful but honestly it’s still completely manageable to do year 13 without the revision in year 12. I’ve just finished year 13 - and if you start the year fresh and with a new mindset you will have done more than enough to succeed, trust me! It will be tough at times but it is for everyone. Good luck! X
Start revising yr12 content now! Make your resources etc for yr13 as you go along and catch up on yr12 as you go along say giving a deadline of say October half term to have made resources for yr12 content ready for mocks
becka ah I’m in the same boat as well, I really don’t know how I’m going to remember all of yr12 content as well as learn yr13 content. The jump is huge and I’m already struggling 😂
Take a first Aid Kit and Medicine that you need like Aspirin or Tablettes against allergy because I currently moved and forgot all of these and they’re freaking expensive when you have to buy them with your „own“ money 🙂
Eve I remember seeing this video when you first posted it and though “damn homegirl does not need that much stuff”... so it’s funny to see you reacting to it now! 😂
A doorstop was single handedly the most useful purchase I made in first year, obviously with the exception of a few the majority of halls buildings have fire doors and if you want to make friends in first year in your flat or highlight when you're door open bother me door closed do not disturb it's the golden damn ticket
I'm going into my second year, and it's my first year in accommodation as i commuted last year. As i am extra, i brought a load of crap, mostly to make my room cosy. Why do i need 4 display pillows and a throw? Idk but they look cute. I went crazy in the worlds biggest Primark and had a load of rubbish gifted to me. Last year, i found a printer necessary as i am studying History we get given a lot of sources to read which i found easier to print off. It was cheaper to use my own printer which is the same one that you brought and buy XL compatible ink from cartridge people. I also started using two laptops, as i like to game i used my 15 inch laptop for gaming and i used an old 11 inch laptop for uni work as i found it easier to take to lectures and carry around with me as it fitted nicely in my handbag and was not heavy at all. This is not a necessity of all, it just suited me. I prefer to write my notes on paper, but as i have a medical condition that affects my arms i cannot write as quick as i would like, so if the lecture slides were available online i would get them up on my laptop if i fell behind the lecturers pace. I also found a USB helpful as then i could use either of my laptops or a uni computer. If you have a medical condition that could affect your studies in any way, even if you don't think it will affect your studies, let your university know. I didn't think i would qualify for anything, but i get extra time in exams and for assignments, i am allowed to stop the clock and take a break in exams, and i am allowed to take my exam on a computer. Even though i do not claim it, you can also get disabled students allowance. I'd also suggest a folder for each module, and a notebook for each module isn't exactly necessary. My uni teaches 3 modules per semester so this year i am using a 10 subject notebook from paperchase for my first semester then i will see how i get along with that and reassess what i need for my second semester. Uni is about living and learning.
I found a doorstop sooo useful as our halls had fire doors, which I assumed was the norm for all uni halls...? I used a slotted spoon utensil all the time as well as bottle opener! Also, anyone considering a kettle - wait until you know your uni rules as ours didn’t let us have kettles, mini fridges, candles or bleach, so could potentially be a waste of money! I honestly think a lot of things can wait until you move in so you know the space you have and can speak to your flat mates about sharing some things. E.g. No point getting a wardrobe storage thing if your wardrobe is tiny! All other tips are really good, especially having an Ikea laundry bag, a vase, shot glasses, reed diffuser, and greenery (fake plants are so worth it!) as loads of people won’t consider getting those things. BUT a printer was my best investment purchase - I used it through all 3 years at uni and saved me so many times as I didn’t have to trudge to the library just to print out lecture notes or an essay!
I’ve just moved into my room in college and my college has a really useful printing idea because I don’t have a printer near me. You essentially send the printer what you want to print and when you pass a printer wherever on the campus you just swipe your card and it’ll print it out
My mam always shouts at me when I do it because 'you can't just take the easy route in life' but efficiency qnd practicality just outweighs getting bollocked 😂😂
I know it’s very easy to get overexcited and buy too much before uni but it’s definitely helpful to hold off until you’re there. Once you’re there you can see who has what and what you need to contribute to the flat. I managed to go through uni without buying a single pan because our household did not need 10 pans! Definitely see what everyone else has first!!
Even though I am not a uni student, this will really be helpful to know what I really need for my dorm when I go to uni in two years because I know I am that person who packs her whole house when going to uni or even when traveling 😂😂😂 plus I know most of my stuff to bring for uni will be stationery. Congrats on 200k and love you so much.
People watching this: before buying a kettle check with your uni if you’re allowed one in your room!! A lot of unis don’t allow them in bedrooms so check before spending your money. Also if you’re self-catering (so feeding yourself) the kitchen stuff you need will be different to what Eve used so keep that in mind xx
A wok! Everyone in my flat used the wok almost every single night. We were self catered but decided to each cook for everyone one night a week. Also 100% agree with the washing up sponge.
Kitchen essentials if you’re self catered: - baking tray (possibly 2) - saucepan (lid not really necessary) - frying pan - multiple cutlery sets (they will go missing - would recommend Poundland) - 1 sharp knife (not a full set) - chopping board - multiple mugs/glasses - 2 bowels, 2 small plates and 2 large (though not the really large plates) - colander In general don’t buy expensive stuff there’s a high chance it might get broken xx
Agree. I’d say think about what you will use at uni and what you eat to decide what to bring. Also for saucepan I would say to definitely have a lid as it speeds up the process of water boiling faster
For me: Door stop, command strips, over the door hooks, warm blanket, spare bedding, mattress topper and shower caddy, airer, extension lead, food containers are crucial
Quick thing about door wedge! I took one to my halls and we weren’t allowed to use them because in fire doors they have stuff around the edge of the door and a doorstop would ruin it but we could use door stops!
I think it was me who requested this video...I mean, I definitely requested it, but someone else might have sent a similar suggestion! I'm going into second year myself, also brought so much crap with me, and knew if I were to post a yt video it would have to be something like this just to shame myself ngl I'm so glad you filmed it I laughed so much and 100% relate😹
Just wanted to add that if you aren’t catered, a lot of these things actually are helpful! I only found out who my flatmates were on the day I moved in, so I did need to buy my own kitchen stuff and we didn’t choose to share our utensils as a flat :)
Could you do a video on the stationary/school supplies you need at uni or is it literally the same as what you need in A levels? Also how you organise notes for uni would be great xxx
Check what you have already in your accommodation. I was given a plate set and we already had a kettle. With things that you only need one of, check if anyone else has brought them either before (FB) or when you get there. Kitchen things vary so much depending on what you eat (if you're vegan or veggie, you'll probs cook more as ready meals tend to be rarer and more expensive) and cooking for yourself can mean you can cook for a lot cheaper. One thing I'm so glad I got was a mini portable heater. It got really got in my room as the main heater was really old and didn't work properly and the windows were crap for insulation. I used it so much (it was also a fan if it was too warm, so would recommend that if where you're going has a reputation for getting cold. If in doubt, don't buy it beforehand but if you do find you need it, buy it somewhere cheap when you're there.
An inflatable mattress is always a great shout! Also I would say 3 sets of bed sheets :) for the kettle check with the uni rules because some say not to have a kettle in your room because of mold.
My personal advice for catered accommodation is mugs, cutlery and bowl for microwave meals in case you miss a meal or need a warm snack. If you need anything else just buy it after you move in.
Honestly Eve I can’t tell you how much your videos have helped me these past 2 years at sixth form and now as I’m preparing for uni. It is quite daunting making sure that you’re organised but your videos have always been a huge help so thank you
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on applying for student accommodation!!!! Like when to apply, how to know which one is right for you etc. It’d be so useful. I’m so stressed about it !
When I was at uni, I used all the kitchen stuff you mentioned because I was cooking for myself. Tea towels were bad, they went missing and we're so dirty all the time. You need your own and more then one is better. Bedding I agree as well as towels were better to have spare. 2nd year in September
watching your reactions was so funny!!! thankfully when i went to uni i don’t think i did too badly with overpacking, though i didn’t need quite as much kitchen stuff as i bought. what me and my flat mates did was when we were all moved in, we went shopping together for some stuff like a full length mirror and split the cost. definitely recommend that. also extension leads, 100% agree they’re essentiallll. command hooks and strips are also an absolute must if you’re like me and have loads of posters and fairy lights. and my fave reed diffuser is the pink lemonade one from primark!
my shower basket was the most useful thing i bought in first year. i didn't pack one and actually bought it a week or so in when i realised i'd need one. i bought a plastic one with holes in it so i didn't have to worry about getting it wet. honestly best thing i bought in first year and i still have it 5 years later.
in terms of decor can really really recommend postcards as well as photos - you can have loads and they are super easy to bring with you to uni because they are so small, and they make your room really look personal to you and super cute :) my postcards were my favourite thing about my uni room. also that diffuser 100% YES, suuuuch a great thing to have in your room - my friends were always telling me my room smelled amazing!! one other thing, can recommend buying another lamp. uni rooms only tend to give you one lamp and sometimes it's not enough if your room is dark or if you want one on your desk and one by your bed. I found my second lamp absolutely essential!!!
Eve, I know this is unrelated but I've been watching your videos since the summer before year 10 and somehow got straight 9s in my GCSEs this week! Your results day videos and study with mes motivated me so much and your advice was incredibly helpful - I can't thank you enough 💕
I'd say really just take the essentials with you to uni. If you do find that you need extra stuff get amazon prime student or go to tiger and get it. You really dont need to buy everything before you go to uni.
I actually think you can never have too many tea towels, you get through them more quickly than you think and you’ll want to wash them regularly. I swear some of my first year flat mates never washed their tea towels 🤢
Plus people in your flat will happily use them to wipe up their messes so they can get so dirty! I took 3 with me in first year and all of them were completely ruined/went missing
I went to uni a year before Eve and I remember watching her haul and thinking you are going to regret all of that! There honestly isn’t enough space for it😂
Can you do a video on university interviews not based upon cambridge but in general. Im quite nervous as im starting A-levels, and want to have a dentistry degree.
I was so glad that when I went to uni I bought good quality items that I still use now since moving out. I am so happy I didn't bring loads, it was crazy seeing how much other people brought. You clearly learnt quickly though!
Great video, I definitely related to the bringing too much stuff for first year! I would love to watch a video about how you organised your time at uni - whether you used calendar apps or planner/diary, tips on fitting in time to study around lectures and social events etc. Thanks! ❤
The tupperware and kitchen things are useful only if you're self-catered. I used by chopping board and tupperware (that I had to buy when I got there) a lot
I’ve just started watching this but wow you’re GLOWING here! Would disagree with the tea towel we had around 20 and somehow you still couldn’t find a clean one
I lived off-campus at University so my apartment had a lot of people moving in and out at random times of the year. This meant that they would leave stuff behind and no one knew what belonged to who. We all just assumed that it must have been whoever was living there the longest. We finally had a roommate meeting and discovered that only 2 things in our packed freezer belonged to people who still lived there.
I had no iron for first year, which isn't advisable when you go to a lot of legal events. Best trick was to hang my clothes in the bathroom while I showered so the steam would sort them out
One video I would love to see is how to deal with the actual class? Do you just ask professors after class or can you ask during too? How do you sign up to meet them? How do you introduce yourself to the teacher and your fellow classmates. So many questions..so I would love to see a video about it!
I am currently packing to move to Ox earlier (this is a technically productive break!) than the start of freshers and I am CREASING. Possibly my fave video of yours Eve😂
Just as a warning, fairy lights are banned in a lot of student accomodations because they're a fire hazard (they can overheat and explode!) Make sure you check your tenancy agreement to see if they're a prohibited item, because if you get caught with them in a room inspection you could get fined!
Realistic budget per month video!
Ellie Allsopp YES
Ellie Allsopp YES!!
yessss
YESSS
THIS PLEASE!
I love how in the original video Eve said £15 was expensive for an extension lead cord and yet she spent £14 on that cushion...
Can you do a video on how to take notes during lectures, from what I’ve heard they talk so fast so how do you keep up?
You condense the most important stuff rlly. You learn as the year goes along but I’d recommend recording lectures because it means you can write stuff you missed later on !
The method that works for me is downloading the powerpoint ahead of time and then writing my notes in the ‘notes’ section underneath. That doesn’t work for everyone though, some people use google drive or word to write up from both the powerpoint & the lecturer, some take paper notes. You should have some introductory lectures in your first week where you can experiment with what works for you. I started out trying to write on paper and it didn’t work at all for me 😂
They do but don’t worry it’s usually all available online if you miss anything and don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask lecturers to repeat themselves x
the powerpoints are made available for my course in advance, which is quite standard these days. i make my notes on my laptop so half my screen is the powerpoint and half is a word document. i copy all of the text from the slide onto the document, format it how i like it, and then edit it and add things that they mention. that way i’m not wasting time typing out long bulks of info.
Izzy Kate I agree printing powerpoints out and writing extra comments made by lectures in the notes section is a fab tip x
- How I organized my work and papers and stuff at university
- What's in my Uni bag
- What I take to lectures and what I take to tutorials
Xx
A yessss a what’s in my back for lectures would be awesome
*bag
I’d love a video on how you take notes in lectures and then how you revise revise at university!! You’re obviously doing something right ;)

when she pulled out the fox as a door stop i deadass couldnt stop laugjing
It’s sad because I have that door stop😂

True! Yeah I just didn't use mine as the hob was so slow we'd boil water in the kettle to use aha
I would say one round pizza pan and one rectangular one.
Also, you should have two cutting boards, one for meat and one for veg.
For me: Door stop, command strips, over the door hooks, warm blanket, spare bedding, mattress topper and shower caddy, airer, extension lead, food containers are crucial

please can you do another back to school/uni stationery haul?xx
Sharing ONE tea towel between the whole flat for a whole year?! Naaaaaaah. You need a pack of 3. EACH. EDIT: Each tea towel needs washing daily 👌🏼
i’d find mine just around the kitchen somewhere and we all ended up using it and i don’t think it was ever washed LOOOL disgusting
Can you talk about student finance, maintenance loan, and how to budget. Love you♥
Just wanted to add that if you aren’t catered, a lot of these things actually are helpful! I only found out who my flatmates were on the day I moved in, so I did need to buy my own kitchen stuff and we didn’t choose to share our utensils as a flat :)
Door stops were crucial for me as our uni dorms had fire doors. Get a tall wedge thing as the filled toy things aren’t heavy enough
Could you do a video on the stationary/school supplies you need at uni or is it literally the same as what you need in A levels? Also how you organise notes for uni would be great xxx
Tablet/ laptop is essential, making notes on there will be easier and quicker and probably record lectures in case you miss anything
The whole time I had to keep reminding myself that I’m not catered for and all the kitchen stuff I’ve bought makes sense 😂
I'd love a video on how to take good(!) and effective lecture notes :)
Omg this was my comment!! Thank you so much it was so helpful! Love you and your videos as always xxxx
Proof. Dm eve
@@aliya282 why dya care jesus
Love the brummy accent coming back😍💪
ME TOOOOO I HATE HOW FLUID MY ACCENT IS
@@RevisionWithEve dw the same thing happens to me aswell 😅
Of course this comes out two days after my IKEA shop...
Amelia Wood I did mine this morning 😂
holly marie me too...
I would love a video on what you do in your societies. Would be so cool to see what u do at the Cherwell, Midlanders soc etc.
How to take notes during lectures and the difference between lectures / seminars / tutorials
Oooh a lamp is a shout!!!
How do you put the postcards up around the room? Assuming you’re not allowed to use blutack on the walls..? xx
@@hettiemoorcroft7533 I had a massive noticeboard in my room so I pinned them up on that :)
Can you make a video on extra curriculars in school (how many you did, how many you should do, how to balance them with work etc) ??
Eve, I know this is unrelated but I've been watching your videos since the summer before year 10 and somehow got straight 9s in my GCSEs this week! Your results day videos and study with mes motivated me so much and your advice was incredibly helpful - I can't thank you enough 💕
Bloody hell thats fantastic!
Wow that's so good !! ♥️
@@RevisionWithEve thank you ❤️ I'm going to apply for UNIQ this year and hopefully oxford next year, fingers crossed I'll get in 🤞
Also, remember that you can always buy stuff once you've moved in
I love the brutal honesty in this video.
This is so so helpful, for someone who is trying to sort everything out you've made it a lot easier to create a solid list!
can you do a video on how not to get stressed out and how to handle your time with revision x
I cook for myself so all the cooking stuff I did use. But Yes if you are catered don't bother
Lost it when you picked up the ironing board 😭💀
"i bought a potato masher" lol. This is funny.
By the way, your makeup looks great and love the top you're wearing. X
Eve you are literally glowing 😍😍
Awww thank you s
Am I going to uni? No. Will I still watch this video? Hell yes
Laughed so much in this video!! I would love a year 11 video, survival guide, tips, tricks, regrets, etc... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s amazing seeing how much your confidence has grown! 💕
:) x
I am currently packing to move to Ox earlier (this is a technically productive break!) than the start of freshers and I am CREASING. Possibly my fave video of yours Eve😂
Just as a warning, fairy lights are banned in a lot of student accomodations because they're a fire hazard (they can overheat and explode!) Make sure you check your tenancy agreement to see if they're a prohibited item, because if you get caught with them in a room inspection you could get fined!
General Uni advice because I’m so nervous I’ll feel out of place/ not enjoy it there
An overview of year 13 and tips on what to do throughout the year would be helpful
Second year house-advice!! i am nervous
Yesss please
Could you do a summary of what actually happens in your first year of uni? Eg: freshers fair and week, exams, etc...
When eve said "I know I'm known for my long videos but ooooh-errrrr..." I really felt that 😂
