FALLING in love online isn’t for everyone, but for 82-year-old Iris Mohamady and her husband Mohamed, 36, it was the perfect match - even though they shared a 46 year age difference. After meeting and exchanging messages on social media it wasn’t long before Iris was jetting off to meet her beloved in Egypt where they spent time together meeting Mohamed’s family. Fast forward a few years and the pair are married and living together enjoying their happily ever after. However when they announced their relationship to the world, they faced a lot of negativity from people online. Iris said: “Now Mohamed's in the UK, life is easier because I don't have the stress of him not being here. He's there for me constantly, 24/7, and the love just grows. I don't think I could love him any more than I do right now. If any couples come to us or even ask questions online as they have done, and they are in an age gap relationship and want me to give them some advice, I would just say go with your heart.”

I know someone personally who actually was sick of his cheated wife and divorced her and married an old lady who is nice to him and he knows she won't cheat and play with other men. I kinda thought that too, especially because he was talking about marriage before they even met. Feels like a man who wanted to get to Europe and felt that this was as good an opportunity as any. On the other hand, she's clearly happy. She said that her life was dull before he came. I try to reprimand myself for having a hard time believing it true love, but then again, who am I to judge what true love really means? I know someone just like Mohamed. He was also from Eygpt and but he would complain to me about how his life in Eygpt was miserable. Then after like 6 days of texting, he started mentioning marriage... mind you we've only video chat once. He was doing everything and anything to leave and come to my country (Canada) lol.

OMG I had a very similar encounter visiting Egypt. Another guy there managed to get $35 worth of jewelry from me…He was so skilled in this “romantic trickery” or being a swindler…He knew when to talk/act genuine & show up…& when to play hard to get. I, being an extreme empath, kinda felt bad because he told me his family was poor & gave him the jewelry. After I gave the gift to him, he did not care about me in regards to meeting me one more time before I left the country. Actually, he asked me how much Egyptian money I had left when he was considering to meet me 😂 It’s a long story, but at that point, I came to my senses and basically said “forget about it”. Idiots like him think they can take advantage of people forever or *devalue a human life like that*. But they are inviting their own karma.

That kind of happened to me with an Egyptian as well. I started dating him, in person though, not online and a month later his dad was like "take her to the church" Which means get married. I'm pretty sure he is still trying to scam me, 19 years later...

No. Starting from the tidbits about him mentioning marriage/getting married before they met…started setting off an alarm. I’ve talked to numerous North African & Arab men & it’s almost always been the same. Especially in my experience with Egyptians guys, the money is always (subconsciously) on the mind. *I was trying to be polite the first time I wrote this comment & left something out, but I’m writing it back in: he’s holding out for the money.

To be fair , whatever his motives , he does treat her very well and is affectionate and loving towards her. No offense to Egyptians or Egyptian men, but it is super common for those in the region to seize the opportunity to leave the country. The poverty and lack of opportunity is stifling. I’m not saying Mohamed doesn’t love her in some way, but yeah I don’t see this as romantic love. More like gratefulness. He will probably eventually get divorced, have his mum send his female cousin to England to get married and have kids. I hope Iris does not end up alone and hurt. She seems so lovely and fun! May God take care of her. If we are all being honest with ourselves, it’s simply not realistic a young man would be sexually interested in some 50 years his senior and far past child rearing age. Take this with a grain of salt, and the knowledge that my wonderful husband is Egyptian. We are the same age and have been together for a decade so it is all legit lol. I love Egypt and wish the people could advance, but they are held back by the powers that be.

I mean I want to believe that this is real and be happy for them.. they seem happy.. but her children have every reason to be wary of this guy tbh. I’ve been to Egypt myself and the people are lovely, but there is an awful lot of poverty and an awful lot of underhanded things that go on there in order for people to survive financially. For instance, I was warned beforehand to only use a particular cab service because others had a reputation for literally keeping people locked in the car until they paid whatever fee the cabby demanded. My friend and I had a similar thing happen when we took a horse and buggy up town where the guy got all aggressive because he changed the fee on us once we arrived at our destination. I was also cornered by two men in a market stall and bullied into buying a shirt I didn’t want, and I had several men aggressively proposing marriage or a relationship with me as well lol. It was a great place to visit in spite of all this, but there were times it got a bit scary.
I have to question what a 36 year old man sees in a woman in her 80s.. sure, there are times when age isn’t important and two people just connect, but there are also people who will prey on the elderly for their money and perhaps even marry them to become a beneficiary in their will when they die. Idk it’s just suspicious to me.

Well tbh, as horrible and morally reprehensible it is to « scam » the elderly like this, at least the wrinkled brains of these old folks don’t seem to mind the disingenuous affection provided by these young men. Do judge these relationships and call them out for what they are however. It is NOT LOVE and we shouldn’t sugarcoat them as such just because it « works ».

It is very dangerous in this case not to judge or to tell the family off, because 99.9999999% of times younger men who want to stay in another country forever will marry just for that. I also have my doubts about Mohammed. I really do. Maybe he's playing the long game, maybe he is genuine. But this would be a very very rare event. I want to reiterate to older women that young men chatting you up in 3rd world countries is [almost] always for their gain. Please keep that in mind and don't be naive.

It makes me think about a movie,where a young guy was in a relationship with an old lady for her money but the longer they were together they grew memories and the man had feelings and didn’t care about her money but her love.
I’m totally sure she knows he doesn’t love her, it’s just kind of “convenient relationship”, he needs a legal status to stay in the country (plus , feeling like home) and she’s at the last phase of her life and needs to feel that somebody cares for her and have some fun. This is what I clearly see.

OK guys. I am an Egyptian woman and I can tell you how things are bad in Egypt, financially and politically.
And "Yes", many young men try to find an escape. But I can tell you one thing for sure, most Egyptian men who marry for a visa will make good spouses to foreign women.
You don’t need marriage to love each other. The way he sees civil marriage is different to how she sees civil marriage. He needs a civil marriage to get a passport and stay in Britain.
My mom was used by a scammer much younger than herself. He became abusive 3 years later in exchange for her cash paid home and ran off with her finances. She left him eventually. A lot of mature women are more naive than the young ones. He’ll inherit everything and bring his family over once she passes.
There are couples that have large age gaps that are about love. But it’s extremely obvious to the viewers this is not the case here.
To be fair, a lot of these men probably prey on older women because they also know that these wrinkled ladies don’t have much to lose anymore and are very aware of that. Younger, still attractive ladies will probably want a man who actually has romantic affection for them but these old people clearly don’t need any of that anymore, just caretakers.:

I am happy for them, especially her. My questions are.. Did they do a prenup to make sure he didn't just want to get money and also did he need to be married in order to live where they are now? Maybe he was reaching people to try to get someone in the UK or USA to marry him to get him out of his country. It happens quite often.
