Born in '65. Clean house every Saturday after cartoons, in addition to the daily tasks. Good lessons.

OMG! I loved when the dad said that they should assign jobs not based on gender! Damn straight. Whoever has the time and ability should do what needs to be done.

I don't believe in women's lib. It's why a lot of men are sending away to Russia for a old fashioned Bride.

Howard is actually helpful to his family. He and his sister discussed which jobs to do; the boy has a very nice sister.

Both my brother & I were taught how to do "women's" work around the house & "men's" work also. We both are good cooks & care for our own homes. Fast forward to today, I'm still caring for my hubby & I in our little home (and he still loves my cooking after 35+ years!❤) And now my brother is caring for our mother (he never married) and keeping a home for them while working from home. We both learned from our father about handy work to keep our homes in working order or to care for our cars,... I even had to know how to check the oil, changd a tire, jumper cable the battery if needed,.. before I could get my driver's license!
I've helped my hubby with fixing/drywall place in our home, refinishing furniture,... in order to fix or repair any home we lived in.

Now I understand why my mom was so upset with my home economics class. We learned how to open cans and mix a box of this and a can of that to make food. Nothing from scratch. We never learned how to clean, but we did learn all about sex, not how to take care of babies, only about labor and delivery. We did sew, but after the argument, my mom had with the teacher that wore so much make up you could scrape it off with a knife, my grades went down no matter what I did. She gave me an F on sewing project because the stitches were to straight. Unbelievable. My son wanted to take home economics to learn more about cooking, I told him they don't teach you to cook, but in fact they did. He learned how to cook from scratch. I learned from Fanny Farmer Cookbook. What a crappy school I went to!

Overlooking the cheese and focusing on the message we understand that many families today have trouble sharing in the housework and the concluding message is that all have to share irregarless of gender and to pick up after themselves, makes sense in any era. Home ec is taught in Scandinavian countries from age about 11 through high school - sewing cooking, carpentry, economics, credit, buying a car home taxes, and family relations and cooperation. It is effective to help develop common sense.

Japanese schools don't have any cleaning staff - the kids have to do it before and after class. And that means the infants not just the high school kids.

That is so sweet!! Kids don't do much of that nowadays. I remember helping my mother as much a possible when I was younger. Even my daughter,now.. She helps me,too. I think technology is great but it's been making people lazy mentally, emotionally and physically. It makes everything too simple and no one wants to interact properly anymore, let alone help each other. Wish we could go back to the good old days. (Without the racism and double standards, though)
