Loving this build, the rear lights fitted perfectly the first time …. How else is the water supposed to get in 😂. Seriously though, a fantastic build. I totally agree with what you said about the paint finish. Looking forward to seeing the next instalment 👍
Hi Dave, great work as always. I really admire how you've embraced the 3D printing. On the subject of the painting, you are well able to do a good job yourself, you definitely have the skills. Painting is 98% preparation and patience, which you definitely know all about. I have painted 3 cars now in my own garage at home. One is still a project, but the other two have been to many car shows and stood up to professional scrutiny. The problem is, I put loads of effort into getting the finished car as good as I was able, and that still left me with the feeling of being scared to park the car anywhere. It's a fine line I'm afraid. I could give you lots of tips, particularly when it comes to mistakes!
Nice print on the vents. I suggest you use petg, abs or asa. Pla does not have the heat resistance to be in a car. It will become soft and deform. Nice videos, keep them coming.
All the work you have done is really paying off now as it's starting to look really good and fair play to you it will be a really nice escort and be worth alot of money as anything retro ford sells for crazy money and expensive to build if you couldn't do it all your self I really hope you keep it and enjoy driving it Dave 👍
Good advise on doing a dry build first Dave. Previously you mentioned you were painting it Ermine white with the blue RS2000 decals! I dont want to rain on your parade at all, but MK1 RS2000s where only ever built in Diamond White. So Ermine may not suit the blue decals as its more "creamy". Just thought I would give you the heads up and some food for thought :) Cheers
Hello Dave, I’m really getting very excited for you now, (as you may recall I am a devoted mk1 fan since I had my 1600 crossflow bubble arch back in ‘74). Your car really takes me back and I’m very much looking forward to the stripping and painting episodes. I hope we can meet at either Goodwood or Silverstone one day, with the finished car. Bless you matey. 🙏
Good progress Dave. I'm really pleased that you are going to paint this yourself. I'm sure that I'll learn something from how you approach it. I totally agree with you about paying for an expensive paint job and then being too scared to drive it or fretting over minor scrapes and dings.
Hi Paul, I haven't run the brake lines yet, but I'll be running them and the fuel line inside as much as possible, too many speed humps and bumps around to rip them off
More very useful advice Dave. I have been having the same thoughts Dave regarding painting my car. Want it to be a reasonable finish I can touch up as a modern shiny finish would make me nervous of enjoying using it 👍
Hi Dave I have a Eland 200 Which works great!! But I am welding my van now so I bought a 15kg 0.6 wire, I changed the wire feed roller to 0.6 but the wire won’t feed into the gun. I think now it’s the weight of the15kg roll of wire is too heavy. I put the half roll of 0.8 wire in and it works great. Could help me Regards Garry
on the subject of the DVLA the fact is that the rules that have been in place for over 30 years mean if caught your car would be sent for IVA , not that many people get caught but there have been loads of escorts had their log book taken because of bubble/forrest arches, just because loads get away with it doesnt mean it doesnt happen, the rules clearly state cutting a monocoque up is a no no but we all do it, ive been doing it for 40 yrs myself ,if you need any more info just contact me if you want
@@DavesGarageuk anyone that has actually owned up to being caught has said that their log book was sent to DVLA for some reason , change of owner / address / colour / engine size etc , i have never heard of anyone being caught any other way , the link you have probably seen about the most recent consultation was probably from the FBHVC , they however have no interest in "modified" classics as their fight is only for stock classics, anyone wanting to reply to the consultation would be better of doing it straight from the DVLA site and not the FBHVC link as their answers lean towards cars being stock as they left the factory
You've got great pride in your work Dave, its nice to see that, can't wait to see the finished product.
Thanks 😊
She's looking great Dave, every video is brilliant. Well done, some great work 👏
Thank you 😊
that ashtray blank would look nicer with the sockets centered
Agreed, I was going to put the potentiometer in the space, but we can revisit that later

It's really coming alive i5s got a face! :-)
Iv'e enjoyed all your problem solving and work arounds so it makes complete sense to me that you would also paint the car yourself. Well done Dave
Thanks Jeff

The escort coming along nicely, I was doing a service call today and a left hand drive mk1 escort came past made everyone nearby stop and look .
So much graft into this car and every minute worth it it's going to be a nice classic dave
Headlights sure do make a difference. Smashing.

Thanks, I have ordered some carbon fibre filament and Ruby nozzle, so be interesting to see how that works
@@DavesGarageuk Hi Dave, export your cad files as STEP format rather than STL and that will smooth out the transitions on the circumference.
@bobuilt10 ah, OK, I'll give that a try, thanks 😊
Great stuff 👍🏻 looking forward to the preparation for paint video.
Me too! 👍

The back lights on my car are exactly the same. They sit on an angle just like yours. This will be an informative watch, as always!
Looking good, what a difference putting a few internal and external trim pieces on makes in showing how far you've come with it.
Doesn't it

Thanks for the info 👍
Great progress Dave. Nice to see you getting closer to painting think I'm going to the same paint outside last inside first.
Thanks Sid, it makes sense to me to do it that way
Great video Dave I paid someone to paint mine and ended up doing most of it again myself 👍
It's been a real pleasure watching this restoration from the start. You're doing fantastic, dave. 👍👍👏👏
That's very kind, thank you 😊
Nice ❤❤❤
Getting close now Dave.
All your hard works coming together.
You'll be driving it soon enough
Cracking job like always Dave and I’ve got to say the 3D printer is a cracking bit of kit getting close now 👍👍👍
Mega impressed with those 3d printed vent outers Dave, nothing you can't do or have a bloody good go at. Top man.
Use a marker pen to colour in around the back light then wiggle the light about and it will scuff the ink where the high spots are.

Thanks Phil, yep, that would be good 👍
Looking good, wish you well with the paint, just make sure you film yourself doing it.
Nice work, I like the 3d vents and speedo adaptor that's genius 👍
Thanks Marty
Nice light job this time lol , looks good 👍
Great job making them fit nicely, really good progress on the wiring. Looking forward to seeing the paint prep
Thanks Mick
Try to hit your heating vents after you sand them, with an heating gun, ore maybe skrab peace, it might make it shine

Great progress
Hi Dave interested to know if you did a video on what route you went with the brake master cylinder?

I've never tried a 15kg roll, 5kg is the largest I've gone to. Have you tried to grease the spindle it rotates on? It may help?
