I have a brand new one sitting on a bench with a card fault. Didn't last one week. When I rang to enquire as to "WTF like?" their returns policy was such a ballache, was so costly & so open-ended regarding costs in their favour not mine, I left it on the bench where it still sits & I have an intense dislike for them as a company ever since. Never before have I bought a welder (I weld full-time all day every day, I wake up & go weld) that let me down so badly, or left such a bad taste in my mouth with so few f**** given from the supplier. I have, over the years, bought machines from all-comers including Kemmpi, Lincoln, Miller, Mosa & Sip - more recently Hitbox, Jasic & Yeswelder - never had a machine so much as blink from any of them & don't have a bad word to say about any - but R-Tech win the award as the one welding-plant supplier to have ever p****d me off in over 40 years of professional welding.
The Miller did die - has to be said - but only after 3 years of 10 hour days running with multiple operators - Miller fixed it for the cost of parts within a week & were epic tbh. That, the R-Tech & one Kemppi that got dropped down a 30' stairwell are the only welders that have ever died in my ownership. Miller fixed theirs with no quibbles, Kemppi can't be blamed for catastrophic damage due to sudden de-celleration(it was an eye-wateringly expensive machine, absolutely brilliant & worth every penny, but still.. I wince to this day) , the R-Tech was such a crap ownership experience even seeing one still annoys me & I am pragmatic enough to seldom get annoyed by tools. It was by no means cheap - but it was nasty.
Hi James, We are sorry to hear that you are having this issue with your Machine. We offer a 5 year no quibble collect and return warranty on our Machines within the UK. We cover the cost of collection under warranty and if your Machine is out of warranty, we ensure the repair costs are kept as low as possible to ensure it does not outweigh the value of the Machine and to keep you happy. This is not the level of service that we provide or have ever provided so we would like to know more on your experience if you could give us a call and we will look into this further. The R-Tech Team @@jamesward5721
Absolutely not failures. Your so thorough with the work you do and the quality of the end results speak for themselves. You stop and do what needs doing where others might decide to skip those areas or bodge them. You never do that.
I don't think it was a failure, Steve. You have already saved so many automobiles from being scrapped, you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. I can't wait to see the next video from the escort! Keep it up! Weiter so!
When Steve has finished, this car will be structurally sound, and SAFE , no half measures here, and on Saturday Ryan blags the Plasma Cutter !!!! money wisely spent by the client, you are only going to do it once
I've 2 of these repaired this year with a third coming in next week. They are tbh, bloomin hard going - just when you think you're finished, you find more corrosion. They aren't for the faint hearted.
The work you do is incredible. You are saving our history for future generations. My dad had a 4.2 v6 E type when I was a child in the 70's. If I ever could find that exact car again and it needed restoring. I would be coming to you. Keep up the great work. :)
well done steve for deciding to do the job properly, but what a disaster it looked ok, but hey these things happen at least its nearly all good metal now...
Is there ever a time when you say to yourself "this is a waist of my time and the customers money" Would you not be better manufacturing new body shells? You definitely have the talent for it.
Rust was terrible on those, same as in the Renault 12 or even worse. I used to have one of those Fords just for autocross in the very late 90s. Nobody was even considering to repair or restore the rust bucket back then, so I got it mostly for free from a scrap yard. I ended rolling it and that was its demise :P. Great job rebuilding that one!
Well what can I say ...its a rustcort what did you expect lol.. very reminiscent of my old mk1 rust bucket more holes than metal creaked when thrown in to corners lol.. this is an amazing rebuild , great to see another icon being saved and who better to do the work . Thanks guys very therapeutic to watch
Amazing work as always Steve personally I don't see them as failures just set backs, the customer has made the best for the restoration and the end result will be spectacular much better to find the corrosion now than when it was sent back to them only to rust out and tarnish YCR's reputation excellent video I'm a huge MK1 escort fan and looking forward to seeing the completed restoration ♥️
Awesome work, mate 😊 had one in the 80s with more rust, LOL.. you guy's are surgeon's,, keep the faith, keeping automotive art alive! .love the videos, Tim from Australia ❤
Great video 👍 As it normally goes if one side is bad then the other side is also bad😊 it's going to be a decent mk1 escort shell when you guys get done.
So if a welded up shell in your opinion is decent WHATS a original genuine ford shell then ? Time and time again mucker abouters like you get confused about what’s REALLY what 😂
Steve...You guys didn't fail here!....The failure was someone buying a Mk1 Rs2000,😂😂 I remember owning plenty Mk1's and 2's back in the day and they were rust buckets even then, you could practically watch the inner wings rot out!... If one chassis leg was rotten then it was obvious the other wouldn't be far behind!.....Keep up the good work always a good watch. 💪💪
Great work again Steve 😎 definitely was the best decision to replace that passenger chassis rail also. The new pair of inner wing flitches will also finish off the front end nicely. Definitely no failures mate 👏🏽👏🏽
We all knew what we would see once the skin was removed. Just the surrounding floor etc. told us it would be so. Lucky that the entire body panels are now available for these (which is a worry for all the owners of original Mk1's).
excellent workmanship, but I would have fitted the inner wing before removing the chassis leg, surely that would have aided alignment with it in place. Once the inner wing was fitted that would have kept some structural integrity and then replace the chassis leg.
It looks like you cleaned up some rust then painted over it instead of cutting it out and replacing around 23:09. If so is this because of moisture or something else?
Nope didn't paint over rust. Cleaned selent and surface rust off. There was a small hole but this was prote Ted till we get to that area with a thin layer of primer. We have to finish what we have started first.
Saludos desde Puerto Rico 🇵🇷.Buen trabajo el que hacen .Pregunta el cliente pidió reparar el piso también porque está como las caricaturas de los Picapiedra jajaja 👍
Ain’t no fails going on here dude you fixed it properly! I bet most of those escort shells are at least like that I’d say that’s not actually a bad one and now you’ve fixing it properly 👍 be warned escort Byers before you part with serious amounts of cash there not worth those huge amounts if there not restored to this standard and they’ll keep falling apart on you !
hi Steve, those MaxiFlex Cut kevlar gloves (34-1743) look excellent. Do you have a UK stockist? I can find other gloves in their range, but not the kevlar ones. I can find the kevlar ones from overseas suppliers but shipping costs more than the gloves! Thanks, Mike
Wow, I thought that was a pretty mint shell before the work started. Does it ever get to the point where you have already done lots of work but then discover lots more corrosion to which further work becomes unviable?. I'd love to have skills like this and be able to repair stuff. Great content. 👍
That's quite a rotter of a body. I hope you got most of the rust off, but I suspect there's a lot more hidden rust on it. Seem like a lot more work than anticipated. The weather over there is really brutal on car bodies!😮 When do you decide whether it is still worth fixing it?
Hello guys, am I right in assuming that there are differences between RS from England and those from Genk etc. I don't see any reinforcement plate on the upper strut and the front plate in the area of the radiator looks like it was sawn by itself. Greetings from Germany
Amazing work!!!- that escort seems ridden with some disease!!! Honestly, every panel overlap and spot weld seam is filled with corrosion- is that body acid dipped? Is that the cause of this or are these car just this bad???
Great work as usual Steve, you just keep going that's great. I see the Rocketeer is still work in progress, is that client not getting a bit peeved at the time it is taking?
how the hell do you manage to workout while doing such a physical job? thats mad. wish i lived in england i would ask to come apprentice dont even pay me man i just want to learn this stuff! so cool
Omg! Those welds are awful. Previous shotty repairs. My 12 yr old grand daughter could have done a better repair. Good thing you guys at YCR are fixing it now.
those plasma cutters are a cool bit of gear steve, it will save you a "shocking" amount of time ..... 😁 are you going to fix that swiss cheese floor pan ?
TBH, every seam in that car is boned. If that were me, I'd pull the whole thing to pieces, body shell too. New chassis rails, everything. Without a full rust removal, even if you seal everything up, there will be residual moisture in there and it WILL rot out again. Maybe it will take 10 years, but I'm a perfectionist. 100% or nothing.
No Steve, not failed, just a reminder to inspect cars before restoring even more for hidden 'treasures'. And another 'way to exploit your craftsmanship even more'. Although you may not feel that way: showing what wend 'wrong' is a sign of strength AND helps me to feel that 'even craftsmen like you make mistakes', so i am less hard on myself. You are human! Poor customer: the more you reveal, the bigger the disaster. But than again: better now than after what seemed toe be a restauration. Is it an idea to inspect the cars that come in with an endoscope, to reveal the 'hidden treasures' timely? Do such discoveries make you think that acid dipping is THE first way to go if you really want to discover such disasters timely, or is the chance too big that there are no reference points left to hang on to after such an procedure? Come and think of it: do you have these points after this thorough cutting? And are after market panels precise enough to fit to the rest of the car? Anyway: thanks again!
As often with old cars is one step forward 2 in reverse - plasma cutter from R-TECH looks really good but like most males we do need to read instructions
R-TECH supply some good kit and their customer support is second to none. Nice to see the escort coming along

Great work on the rs2000 rot box car😮😳 I can't wait to see the completed rebuild of this 👍
As a Ford bloke really appreciated this video. The hidden rust thing, never ceases to amaze me!!
Good man Steve. Better to have found it now. Regards from Ireland
Steve, that's no fail bud.
That was a cracking find. Imagine if you hadn't found it?
Take a bow Stevie boy. Intuition and knowledge are key.
You haven’t failed you Metal Wizard, you’ve succeeded in an alternative way!
Nice to see mk1 ... remaind me of my own .

I am LOVING the work done on this and the other cars. Also enjoying the tips
The coverplate on a rusty McPherson top connection. I did that on my Escort mk2 in 1986. Seeing it on the RS2000 sure brings back a lot of memories.

Thank you for the compliment and for subscribing :)
Better to find whats inside that chassis leg now than in a year or 2 when its all shiny and done !

Great video on how to take off chassis leg and inner wings. Best way fitting new, then try and remove the rust. Guess it sames time in the long run. 👍
i do like the voice over, sounds a bit vintage! great work again!
No worries more time to see the master at work Steve.
They must be real rose tinted glasses Steve to see the good in a big old pile of rust , well worth it though to rescue a true classic
great video steve awesome stuff on a car that deserves it very well done
Cracking job as usual lads! I owned a few Escorts in the late Eighties and they were rust buckets then 😂
Glad u did the other rail 😊
Thats not a fail guys , just a bit more work 😅 👍👍👍
Do you gents have access to a acid tank to drop the body's into
As always great watch , Steve.
as usual good work and efforts such top of the class craftsman these boys
We all knew what we would see once the skin was removed. Just the surrounding floor etc. told us it would be so. Lucky that the entire body panels are now available for these (which is a worry for all the owners of original Mk1's).

excellent workmanship, but I would have fitted the inner wing before removing the chassis leg, surely that would have aided alignment with it in place. Once the inner wing was fitted that would have kept some structural integrity and then replace the chassis leg.
There is no correct way of doing it, just different ways of doing it.
It seems like the floor pan is gone, what will you weld the chassis rail to?

Another great job done well cheers for the video 👍
Who’d have thought there could be more rust. You must’ve had it too close to Matt’s BMW!
Thanks for the video.
did someone weld the fenders on or was that a common practice.. think they would be bolted on not welded?

reinforcement plate on the upper strut ????better to fit before mounting wings
Of corse. We haven't got tha far yet haha

Steve can you do a video on sharpening drill bits? And Are those parts from some warehouse or made to order from old info??? Thanks. Great videos.
All the panels for a Mk1 Escort can be purchased from Magnum Panels.
The whole thing needs sand blasting lads
It's alresdy been sand blasted before it came to us and primed.
Nice work Steve ,tell me does it ever get depressing opening up a box section and finding nothing but rust - I know it would get to me !
yes
I wish I had your failure rate Steve , I would be a wizard too !!!!!!!

Hi Steve. Once again great work. At what point in this job would you quit trying to fix what is still a Dagenham dustbin?
