This video nails it. When not actually in my 4 runner I like to watch videos about my 4runner. There is no a single vehicle on the planet that I would trade my ride for, I love it that much. This review explains why. Dude doesnt even bring up how much dogs love the back window. ... I hear it calling me now, time for a ride.

Funny that you mention the rear window... Just got a dog last month, so I might need to revisit the 4Runner to test out this useful feature. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

Your concluding monologue is exactly how I feel every time I get into my 2014 T4R and drive it anywhere. It will take anything I throw at it, it will do anything you want, and it will ask for nothing

Just bought a used 2020 Venture Edition tonight and am over the moon. Have wanted 4Runner for years but a kickass one with low miles has always been out of my price range. Had one of those “hard work pays off” moments tonight. Can’t wait to put it through the wringer!

Nice review. It's worth mentioning that the Venture is basically an Off-Road Premium with the TRD wheels, more off-road oriented tires, Yakima roof rack, and blacked out trim.

Wouldn’t trade my 2018 4runner for anything. All the gripes he listed I don’t mind, I don’t need all that stuff. I love putting the key in and turning it and hearing the 4Runner start. I love not having an automatic tailgate and waiting there anxiously for it to open and close when with the 4Runner I lift that thing up fast and close it fast and I’m gone. I don’t care about dual climate control or a big infotainment system with a million different settings or a wireless charging pad. The usb is all I need. It has everything you need and takes out everything you don’t need. Love the big buttons that you can still use with gloves on in the winter unlike some cars where you need to go into the infotainment system to turn stuff on. Mpg is the only thing that I don’t like but that’s what comes with having a body on frame and a lift and bigger tires. I love the big ass beefy steering wheel as well. It fits this truck perfectly. It has the perfect balance imo, a beastly capable off road truck but still comfortable on the road for being a heavy body on frame truck. Obviously better than a crossover off road and drives wayyy better on road then a Jeep. It does have brake dive but every truck and body on frame suv does that and it’s really not that bad as long as you aren’t driving like a maniac. Knowing I’ll get to my destination and back and having that piece of mind knowing it won’t break down on me is the price I’m willing to pay, also not spending tons of money in the shop when things start breaking down in other vehicles. I haven’t done too much, just basic off road upgrades like bigger tires, 2 and a half inch lift, trd skid plate, and looking to get rock sliders next. 4runner gang for life. It’s not for everyone but for the people who are into it absolutely LOVEEE the 4Runner and loved this review. He was spot on with everything he said at the end.

Exactly how I feel about the 4Runner. That’s why I just purchased a 2021 Venture in Super White with the black accents. This is my 4th Toyota vehicle and they may be lacking in the new iPad features but I don’t use that stuff anyway.

Just picked up a 2015 T4R SR5 a couple weeks ago after wanting one for over a year. It did not disappoint ... It's such a solid vehicle and Toyota did a great job making maintenance quite easy. I bought it with 115,000kms and am in the process of changing all of the fluids to start a new benchmark. People can mock or laugh at the 4.0/5spd combo but they won't be laughing when they realize that it's bulletproof! I bought this vehicle for my wife to drive around with the kids and I feel pretty damn good knowing they are in a vehicle as tough and reliable as the 4Runner. I put 265/70/17 Duratracs on it the second day I owned it and it drives awesome. Will eventually put Fox 2.0s when the shocks need replacing.
Not going to lie, will probably look at getting one for myself when my truck is due to be replaced!

We just ordered the 2020 Venture and as a current 4runner owner, we are looking forward to building this ine. I have a 3rd generation 4runner, a 2000 model, that has held up and retained its value. I just wanted to point out the 3rd generation didn't start until the 1996. The 1995 was the last of the 2nd generation. Also, these are not known for power or being fast. Thats not what people purchase them for. They should have have better gas mileage but they don't want to change it because of the reliability of the motor. You will get mileage out of them. Good review! I enjoyed watching it ☺

@@jax1079 You're welcome 😊 I really enjoyed the review. I'm not surprised your a tad smitten. We have been back and forth for months. We drove a Tacoma and almost instantly decided the 4runner was the better option. I really wanted a Tacoma this time around but it didn't seem as on par as the 4runner. One more thing is I do appreciate you mentioned the Trekker. Not many people know about them. Thats cool 😎

@@jax1079 I agree and you did good work! Its a common mistake with the 95 to the 96. The big difference is they moved from the 3.0 liter to the 3.6 liter with the 3rd gen. The 3.0 was basically a flop, a boat anchor riddled with problems and blown head gaskets plagued its existence. The 22re motor stood the test of time tho.

Fantastic video and beautiful 4runner. I live in an urban city in Florida and dont go off road but I want one so bad. It makes no sense since its the least practical vehicle for me yet I want one. I rationalize driving to my home state of PA and needing the 4x4 on snowy roads. I want to be one of those people with 200k miles on it and its the last vehicle I own even though gas will be so expensive in the future. I hate myself for loving the vintage digital clock and the minimalistic interior. Oh, btw, I love Hawaiian pizza which could explain my love for the 4runner.

Great review! You just can't beat a 4Runner. I had a 2004, (the horses poop bag). Although not as cool looking, I put 340k miles on it and it was still going strong. Now, I have a 2019 TRD Off Road and it exceeds all expectations. The 4Runner is an excellent daily driver and even better for off road. I get compliments on how good looking the truck is on a regular basis as well. The sticker price may seem a little high, but the re-sale value is among the highest of any vehicle on the market. It may not have all the bells and whistles that so many vehicles have today, but that is not the reason anyone should look to buy the 4Runner. Everyone knows you buy the 5th Gen 4Runner for the ceiling controls!

As the owner of a 2020 4runner limited, I object to several statements. 1. why do reviewers obsess over the 5 speed automatic? I could see if you pushed for a manual, but the number of gears -- to me this sounds like a pissing contest. Perhaps this obsession with toys helps explains why the American trucks like the Dodge Ram have 20 gears plus lots of bells and whistles which cause numerous problems and have horrible resale value. As far as automatics go this one is bullet proof. It also does not get lost determining when to shift (Honda MDX/Pilot with the 8/9sp). Since I drive my cars for at least 200k I was glad to see they had the same automatic they perfected a decade ago -- with lots of used ones around for the future. I bought the 4runner because my v6 Rav4 was hit from behind and totaled at only 160k -- it also a 5sp auto and all problem-free miles. Also why the hate on the 3rd row back seat. Saying someone is stupid for being one? I am guessing you are unmarried with no kids. I have three kids (with our final one on the way) and the small back seat really is a lifesaver. In fact it was between that and a Sienna --- THANK YOU TOYOTA for the 3rd row seat. My wife and I LOVE IT!!!!! She made the 4runner climb Mount Washington and we both do real tent camping. I know you mentioned you have a suburban -- care to have an honest assessment of the litany of problems and expenses to get one of those dogs to 200K? With a Toyota it is oil changes and brakes.

The features and options logically scale with the price. JAX lmaoo. Toyota needs the just slap the 5.7 or make it a 5.0 for this and the taco. More power with less weight would result in better MPG. Look at corvettes, they weight nothing but get 30+ mpg because the motor is just relaxing idling at 60 mph.

Dan Nelson look for an early 200 series if you don't care about gas mileage. The 4.0 in the 4Runner is sluggish and the suv is too expensive for what it is. Toyota found a niche and people think it's worth $50k for tires, TRD wheels, and basket. The pleather in these vehicles are weak as well. Much nicer lexus/Toyota 200 series for 3/4 cost, plus you'll have money leftover to invest in your own upgrades
