Wow. What a blast from the past. Much of this lore was from an article I penned for Dragon Magazine back in 2007. The "dark three" were indeed Bane, Myrkul, and Bhaal during their adventuring days as mortals. To achieve godhood, the trio embarked upon a quest to bend seven powerful entities to their will. Hask, Voice of Hargut was but one of these "Lost Gods". The others include Tyranthraxus the Flamed One, Camnod the Unseen, and Maram of the Great Spear.

Worth mentioning that this is not to be confused with the Ironfang Keep to be found in the Orsraun Mountains, north of Turmish, which is sometimes referred to as Ironfang Deep. Nor is it to be mistaken for the Gates of the Iron Fangs, located on the southern borders of the forest of Amtar.

Thanks to whom ever asked for this lore to be uncovered. This is some great stuff. Always loved this place and yet both times i have attempted to crawl into those ruins have ended in terrible failure (for my self & my party members. I think the rogue was able to sneak away and flee). Which just makes me want to go back again!
...damn green dracolich. Never had good luck against those damned bastards lol

I seem to remember getting the impression that the 3 "adventurers" were the Dark 3...
    A warlord(bane)
    a necromancer(myrkul)
    a Assassin(bhaal).
Though why they would bother is another matter...

Have you considered doing a series on other famous (or more obscure) fortresses and dungeons? You've done plenty on various creatures, so maybe giving them places to call home might be fun.

You know those three adventurers sound a lot like the “Dead Three” - Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul who were humans who gained enough power through epic feats to challenge Jergal for his throne. They were to said to be an assasin a warrior and necromancer and to have beaten many powerful foes including demigods. Just speculating

This gave me an idea.imagine a keep in a remote land of desolation and tyranny.every king or queen or group that rules from it does so cruelly with sadistic intent, even if they had previously been benevolent. The keep has an intelligence of its own that invades the dreams and thoughts of every inhabitant turning them into an evil despotic monster possibly mutating their physical appearance.if only a party of adventurers would save us from this tyranny

I wonder what possible use Ironfang Keep could have been in the Dragon/Giant wars given there's no way for anyone inside to see anything going on outside. Seems more useful as a vault to either protect something, or to hold something and prevent it escaping...

Vission slits and battlements are susceptible to dragonfire, solid stone would grant a better measure of protection, until the molten remains buried the occupants. Vision is also not terribly difficult to achieve with the magic giant's seemed to possess.

Can you stop the experiments before you join in on them? are you unlocking the shakel or tightening it up? why is that dragon curled up in a ball in that stadium sized cell? Is that a sword in your hand or a really big scapel? I know... sacrifices must be made in order to create the perfect creature, the wars must be won, it's always the same... Sever and stitch untill it is done. 😵😈😵 (I suppose you could have it working similiarly to what happens to the crew aboard a reaper in mass effect.) T.B.H. The madhouse surgeon is tropic nightmare fuel.

It would be weirder of there wasn't any ancient civilizations. A keep that's just there from the very beginning. Now that's just something I would do just to screw with my Pcs. That there keep is the building from which all architecture is based off of.
