    Gundam Wing Endless Duel was made after this and used the same game engine.
    EDIT: And yes, this was an amazing game. Played it for hours with my cousin. I mained Lip Syncher.

    The SNES got not 1, but 3 good Power Rangers games. A rare success for licensed games.

      @0rderSol 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True, Power Rangers (in the 16-bit era) got the best cut; You got 6 to play around with, MMPR for SNES, Genesis and best GameGear, Both MMPR Movie games for Genesis and SNES (My personal favorites), and MMPR fighting edition which can only be bested by the best fighting game on the SNES; Gundam Wing Endless Duel (SF comes close but you really can't match the premise of giant fighting robots)

      @AndrewBlechinger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I seem to recall there being a ranger vs ranger fighting game on the Genesis that let you play any of the original five in story mode. Anyone remember that one?

    • @explosionsandstuff7787
      @explosionsandstuff7787 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewBlechinger Yeah, I had that. It was MMPR for the Genesis. I remember I was disappointed when I got it because the SNES version was a beat 'em up and I was hoping for something along those lines instead of a straight fighter.

      Not 1 had Green Ranger.(Sega got Green Ranger)The Movie game and this game were good. The first one was repetitive af.
      (I was born in 1990, I was the target demographic. Even I hated it.)

    This is one of the best looking fighting games on the SNES. People might think I'm insane for saying this but to me it looks noticeably better than SF2 even if it clearly isn't a better game. This looks surprisingly awesome though.

      Beck is a little before my time but I always remember finding a random old cassette when I was little and hearing some Beck tracks jamming out to it dancing like idiots with my cousins. Was a hilarious 90's kid moment.

      Yeah, this and GWED are closer to Street Fighter Alpha 2's SNES port (i.e. the high end) when it comes to graphics, sound and gameplay smoothness/speed. Of course, it's hard to beat SF2 in terms of balance and perfection of the formula, especially in its later releases, but for a casual player just jumping into the genre for a quick round I'd say the 3 I mentioned are superior.

    I feel like since you didn't care for Power Rangers I need to add this: the soundtrack and visuals (like in 1:39) are really well true to the original source. Those cheesy "Samurai battle ending" in which the hero and the antagonist cross attacks and then one flinches and the other one is destroyed was a staple in Power Rangers. The soundtrack sounds pretty much just like the show tunes too.

  • @rars0n
    @rars0n 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I watched Might Morphin Power Rangers as a teenager _because_ it looked hokey and cheesy. Oh my goodness, I got so much enjoyment out of the original TV show. It was so low-budget I couldn't help but love it. It never failed to make me laugh.

    • @nathanielvaughn6728

      At least on the American end, I'm sure all those explosions cost a pretty penny for the original Japanese show.

    It's not that it's power rangers but rather if the fighting is fluid enough similar to street fighter 2. Look at justice league, it is a mess of a fighting game for either 16bit console.

      Skye Reynolds I would question whether I wanted to live if Batman Forever was one of the first games I played. It was a sad Christmas when I got that for SNES in Christmas 1995. Luckily I had been playing SNES since the beginning and had other games to play.

      Batman Forever wasn't too bad, but it could have been a bit better.
      The first games I got for mine were Super Mario World, Super Bases Loaded, and Lemmings.
      Unfortunately I don't have Lemmings anymore, because it got stolen from my house, along with Robocop vs The Terminator.

    The power rangers games (at least during the 16 bit era) had way more care and polish put into them compared to most other licensed games at the time. Primarily because they were done by natsume (for snes) and banpresto (for genesis). The publishers alone should show that these games are gonna be good.
    Then again, we also have the sega cd and gameboy games. And those are probably the only ones that weren't as great.

    If you guys are fans of this game, do look into the team's following Gundam games that started by repurposing the engine from this game.
    Gundam Wing Endless Duel (Snes), Gundam The Battle Master (PS1, Japan Exclusive), Gundam The Battle Master 2 (PS1, Japan Exclusive), Gundam Battle Assault (it's a repurposed Battle Master 2 with changes to take advantage of Gundam Wing's popularity in the US at the time. Replacing portraits, making Heero Yui as the main character of the story and swapping Z Gundam with Wing Gundam) and Gundam Battle Assault 2 (the best of the series and it's an US Exclusive. It got divided into 3 budget releases in Japan removing all voice tracks and separating the 3 featured Gundam generations used in the full US release.).
    It's fair to say this game is part of the Gundam fighting series by this Natsume development team.

    You failed to add in the one piece of game-breaking information about this game: Ivan Ooze is broken AF. Either player could select him to play in versus mode by pressing X+Y+Start, and not only can he fly, but his moves do crazy damage and he even has a Hadouken move that shoots multiple seeking projectiles (more if properly timed). I just fought a battle with my Ivan Ooze at the lowest power level versus Shogun Megazord at highest power level, and he didn't stand a chance. That's the highest-defense robot, and he couldn't even touch me. That's a problem.

    One think that annoys me about you, your reviews of license games always, always start with this talk about bad license games and how the AVGN made it into a meme. Always. Just review the game. Just saying "dispite being a license game this is actually good" and that's all the information we need.
    I actually don't even agree with the sentiment. Movie tie ins were generally really bad, because they had to come out when the movie came out, the developers didn't even know the full story sometimes and sometimes the IP holder is really meddling with the development. Like I think it was Last Action Hero, Arnorld or someone wanted a minimum amount of violence in the game, so the developers had to throw out the whole combat system and rewrite the damn game close before deadline.
    In general, long running licenses, like shows or comics, got decent games. Look at Asterix, most games are decent, but that one game based on the movie is shit. Utter shit.
    PS: The game looks amazing. There is actually a homebrew port to the Genesis.
