Thanks for the upload.. I grew up near CF Milwaukee near the airport, I could name 6 guys (older brothers and dads of my neighborhood friends) who worked there, mostly dockworkers. I ended up becoming a truck driver too and met many more guys who worked at CF over the years. All solid guys. Now it's a Old Dominion terminal. One thing is certain in the freight industry, the more things change, the more they stay the same...

The truck travels farther than the driver with a relay. When CF was around I had no idea there were relay drivers along the way. I found this interesting & too learned something new.

When I first started trucking in 2000-01, I remember seeing these old “Corn Flakes” trucks and trailers. The company I was working for at the time bought several retired CF Freightliner Century Class units. I think they were in 1997-99 years, so they were early Century units.

I remember when CF went out trucks and trailers were abandoned all over the place along truck stops, rest areas, all along the New York State thruway and ccx at local businesses. It took months for the NYS DOT to corral all the trucks and trailers to storage lots. Even today a few trucks and trailers sit in Syracuse, NY at the state fairgrounds used for storage.

@@georgeandrews6454 🇺🇸 I’m thinking it was Cook Motor Freight back in the day that had air starters. I heard my first one and had a grin from ear to ear. It must’ve been on a GMC rig I think. I was about 6 years old or so. I was so fascinated with trucks at an early age. A friend has a CF rig and he thought it would really freak me out when he started it up, but it didn’t take me long to figure it out, even before he cranked it. 😳

    • @georgeandrews6454

Many CF tractors " stayed with the set " from origin terminal to destination terminal , so the drivers had to " Slip - Sheet " from one cab to another at the turn - around meet point. Triples tractors ( with the " wing tips " - white front bumper edges ) would return to Nevada & Utah from turn points located right on the state lines ( Whiskey Pete's for Las Vegas ). CF Triples tractors had a few extra ponies under the cab.

Also with that low of profit margin I can see why they went bankrupt.
