I grew up there and its a shame that some parks had to move to a lottery system for camping permits and timed entry. You are right about the crowded trails. But if you choose to do a difficult trail outside of 14ers, then you can still find privacy. People flock to basic trails.

Agreed 100% - there has been such a change in how we go about planning our hikes now when a decade ago you could hit any trail at anytime. • @v.m.8472

Instead of creating more low income housing, why not bring back stable employment which makes home ownership possible? Denver used to have many federal government agencies and two bases that provided stable careers: Lowry and Stapleton. Let’s get rid of the real estate politicians and bring back real prosperity to Denver.

Yeah, but that's the same everywhere. I bought my current house in Orlando just over 8 years ago for 270k (2900sf, 5/3 and waterfront) - today I can sell it for over 520k. I think families would need to bring in $150k/year to just barely afford that. Last I checked, there aren't too many jobs pay that - even double income families is hard.

I run my A/C nearly 24/7 year round - and we aren't even far enough south to swim year round without heating. Tourists are drive the economy but they also cause all the headaches (their brains are on vacation too). I've been in rush-hour level traffic at midnight in Kissimmee (parks let out at 11pm). And, of course, we have loads of crime just like everywhere else. Ah, an now most of the property insurance companies are leaving the state (roofing fraud, hurricanes). Florida is a great place to live if you are wealthy, don't mind hot and humid, love the beaches and frequent the theme parks. No state income tax is nice but other things offset those savings.

I grew up snowboarding most of my life, was into "getting my pass" (epic or ikon) every season, but began going less and less and less every year. I don't think people understand HOW HORENDOUS I-70 gets in the winter, since everyone and their mother hops on I-70 to go to the majority of the ski slopes. You HAVE TO leave (for me anyway) Denver by 5:00 AM or else you will be sitting in a parking lot on I-70, and god forbid there's an inevitable crash, icy conditions, or it happens to snow in the mountains, or the Eisenhower tunnel ends up closing It's fairly common for it to take 3 hours to get to say Keystone or A-Basin (normally would take hour and a half) and if you don't leave by 2:00pm to head back to the front range? It's taken me 4 hours just to get home...It is absolutely draining after a hard day of snowboarding. If you're stuck on the Silverthorne side of the Eisenhower tunnel on that 7% grade uphill in a stop and go standstill while driving manual? There's a chance you can burn your clutch.
The best solution is to have a condo/friend/family member that already has a place out in Frisco/Silverthorne etc., but if you don't have half a million or more, you're SOL. With the absolute shear number of people on the slopes, on I-70, the ever-increasing cost of the passes, gas money and time of commuting, and the stress of it all, it simply is becoming not worth it to me. Find other hobbies in the winter to avoid the flock of people. Going to the public shooting ranges in the winter is so much more tranquil and relaxing. Going snow-shoeing, back-country skiing/boarding, ice skating/pond hockey are other good alternatives.

    • @destinationdenvercolorado

100%, you aren't lying, the drive east after a weekend in the mountains down I-70 can be brutal! You make some great points, and I am a huge fan of Frisco, my wife and I spend a weekend there every winter.

Hiking is wide open if you stay away from the 14ers, and expect crowds and heavy traffic on any weekend. Skiing? You can plan around the terrible traffic on I-70 but it's gonna mean a significant change in your timing. I go up every weekend during the winter, but I never stay till the lifts close, and you've got to be comfortable driving in heavy traffic, in the mountains (curvy/steep), in the dark, and in inclement weather. If those things freak you out. Or cause you to ride your brakes, please don't go to the mountains on I-70 in the winter.😎

    Cool Video
I applaud you. This is the first TH-cam channel I came across to admit, that Denver natives are weird! I use to visit Denver in the early 2000s and lived in Denver from 2014-2019. Most natives were closed minded, rarely traveled outside of Colorado, and genuinely hated transplants.
Let’s call a spade a spade: Denver currently operates like a typical major blue state. High crime, high population of homeless people, low wages, and high cost of living. Denver is the new LA, San Fran, Portland, and Seattle. Denver use to be what Boise is now!
The state of Colorado is beautiful, however the city of Denver is highly overrated and not worth the high cost of living. Denver is suffering a major case of identity crisis lol. The city does not know if it wants to be a college, hippie, skid row, upscale or gangster city. There’s no middle in Denver! There’s no balance, it’s either a boring or trashy party type of lifestyle.
The dry is extremely dry, unfortunately many look 5yrs older than their actual age and have terrible skin.
I believe most that move here does not take geographic location into consideration. It’s a long drive to other major cities like Salt Lake, Vegas, Austin Texas, etc.

I've lived in Denver metro since 1962 when I-225 didn't exist yet. Lot of change has happened since then. I remember when Denver metro went through the oil bust of the late 80's and you could get a home for dirt cheap and when the first home in Cherry HIlls Village sold for $100k (not sure what year that was exactly but I remember watching it on 9News). Your video is pretty accurate. Colorado has become a very expensive state in which to live and is crowded. Most of the influx has been from CA and WA because their RE prices are considerably higher than ours which drove up our prices. As much as I love Colorado, going into the mountains for any pleasure is now a weekday venture because of all the weekend traffic. I'm fortunate that I now live in very nice slightly outside of the metro area town which in of itself has seen major growth in the past 8 years.
Having said all of that, Colorado needs to get crime and the issue of homeless people seriously under control before things start getting better around here.

Either way is fine since plan to stay overnight instead of trying to make it a day trip. Men all wore baseball caps & egotistical, traffic horrendous, rents high, couldn't drive in mtns anymore. Even a drive to Boulder could take hrs. Weather crazy/unpredictable. This state has turned into yet another blue ran state that has been ruined. Way Overpopulated and expensive cost of living. Everything is expensive and steadily increasing, our property tax alone this year increased $650. Traffic is an absolute shitshow, roads and highways constantly being worked on due to the great increase of population. You will spend two hours waiting trying to go into a decent restaurant, you have to reserve six months out to go visit RMNP, or any place in the state to go camping. Hunting and fishing sucks ass because of the overpopulation and lack of planning/management by CPW over the past several years. You can no longer enjoy what the state has to offer anymore. Homelessness is ridiculous not only in Denver but is now being pushed out the suburbs. And now the new crisis is the 5k plus illegal immigrants that have been sent here over the past year. We intend on moving ASAP!
