    Man, my grandparents kept a freezer full of bass filets in the 80s and early 90s. I had no idea people didn't eat bass lol. I just started fishing as an adult this past year. I'm 39, and the reason I'm watching this video is bc my son, I guess bc of hearing my stories...is dying to catch and cook a bass. He's 4 😁😅

      The freshwater pan fish all taste very similar. The way my family cooked them growing up, we’d remove the head, guts, and scales and fry the fish whole, and we’d use forks and our fingers to pick the meat from the bones and out of our mouths.

    Largemouth bass are my favorite freshwater fish to eat! Big bluegills are second and crappie are 3rd. There's nothing wrong with taking out 1-2 pounders to eat. It actually helps the bass population to eat some here and there. Ponds and lakes get stunted when you catch and release every bass

    • @stephenmartinez1
      @stephenmartinez1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amen to that! All the freshwater pan fish like bass, blue gill and crappie taste very similar. There’s so many lakes and freshwater fish in the US, that keeping a few here and there certainly doesn’t harm the population. Especially if you fish in some of the remote lakes. Growing up camping in northern Michigan, my family kept all the fish we caught because a communal fish fry is just part of the camping experience.

    "Only 1 bait" for year round bass fishing? Hhhmm, that's a tough one. I believe I would have to pick the ole tried & true plastic worm, because you can fish it SO many different ways year round. Fish it fast weightless & twitch it like a soft jerk bait on the surface, add a little weight & fish it the same way just under the surface.........fish it like a slower swimming worm, or any number of ways on or near the bottom. You can even pitch & flip the shorter worms on a typical flipping rig with a pegged heavy weight. Find the type of retrieve & presentation the fish want. PLUS, IT'S TOTALLY WEEDLESS. I can't think of any other lure that you can fish so many different ways as the old plastic worm. So many sizes, styles, and colors to choose from as well. I love & use all lures as much as anybody.......I always keep 8 different lures rigged on 8 different reels & rods at all times........but forced to use only one year round? Yeah.......the plastic worm......definitely.

      @@jcdesignsandboat-works8290 I'm in Florida too so I completely understand what you are saying. It's upsets me to no end to see someone post a first time harvest and read ignorant comments about should have let it walk. We love eating deer and hunt for meat as well. Am I excited to harvest a big buck, sure! But ultimately to me it's about enjoying the outdoors and putting a little meat on the table.

    Bass is really good. I scale it and season it and fry it. That's it. Just keep what you are going to eat. If you stil have bass in your fridge then you don't need more for the moment.

    From upstate Ny, fished large mouth bass my whole life 50years and the best bait i've found I caught the most and the biggest bass were on a rubber frog. Love them cut into chunks and fried up like chicken nuggest.. With a tarter sauce for dipping. 😊👍🐴🙏
    Bass is my favorite fish to eat then comes trout, then salmon during the Salmon run in Pulaski , Ny
