- Fishing for spring crappie, I ended up caching a lot of bass so we are going to catch clean and cook them both to see if you can tell the difference.

When you got 3 generations together for a clean and cook.....It don't get any better than that!
💯
That’s where it’s at!
I grew up with a grandpa that fished till his mid 80s in a 1 man boat and he NEVER threw back ANYTHING that was eating size. I ate so many bass and bream growing up it's all the same to me. I love it all. I still go out in my own 1 man and catch blue bream for the family to cook. Between bluebream, goggle eye, shellcracker, catfish and crappie, we stay stocked on fish to eat
I'm 33 and haven't been fishing until only a year ago. Some people think "that's insane!"
But never went with anyone or had a father to take us. So I'm barely starting to know that theres a difference between large mouth, spotted bass and such and I was told not to eat bass cause of worms, but now I know it's only large mouth, ,so now I'm thinking of trying bass now that I can distinguish between bass. 👌 great video man ❤
I've caught a lot of bass kinda noticed the mouth but didnt have the knowledge to tell the difference. Barely been getting into crappie fishing as well but catching bass is what I been good at since I started 😂
I have never seen a worm in a bass. That doesn't mean they never have them, because basically all fish can. What it does mean is that some fish-poking sport boy lied to you so that you don't eat any of the bass that he wanted to molest for his Instagram pics.
Bass is excellent eating and I have never found a person that could tell the difference between fried bass and crappie, side by side. Even people who claimed one was excellent and the other was mediocre.
Just ate a largemouth bass last night here in Wisconsin. Tasted good.
@@BG-bx4ey I'm more a trophy angler when it comes to bass, catch and release for me. Just caught a 8 pounder yesterday and today a 6 pounder, loved the fight they both gave me. Catching smaller ones won't feel the same lol excited to beat my new p.b now though 👌
I was just wanting to watch a new LFG video then boom! Here we are!
That Buccees reference was funny 😆
What's funny is I was watching this while wearing my buccees sweatshirt 🤣
Thank you LFG for all the videos and tips it's much appreciated. Hope you all have a great summer.
Been watching you before you had your first kiddo, Love seeing you incorporate your kids in your video, him running out there with excitement says a lot about how you make him feel! Class act, you da man LFG!!
Definitely do more catch and cooks, they never get old
It's such a tough choice, but it can be dealt with easily by just knowing they both taste delicious when grilled. Great video brother..
Great video. Hear a lot of mixed reviews on eating bass, so good to see your take on this. Great to see LFD. He looks to be doing well. Love the glasses. Also loved seeing Ben and your recognition of the 3 generations. It really is a beautiful thing.
Family is growing. Good to see LFG. Gig em
Love the videos, keep them coming!!!
Dang Lfg jr gotten big. Always good to see LFD
In my 70+ years, I never heard anyone make a negative remark nor reference to the taste of bass until 'catch and release' became the motto (so all the pro's and wannabe's) could be comfortable there would be an endless supply of bass to pursue. I will concede that crappie have a finer texture and milder taste than bass, but the difference isn't enough to have a heavy preference of one over the other when put on the plate with all our favorite sides. I fished for bass only for many years, but I never reached the level of skill to catch more than I could eat. Then 'catch and release' became the mantra and then slot limits were thrown in, and I got completely disenchanted with catching a few good bass but couldn't eat them. I'm now crappie ONLY!
They both taste great! To me all sunfish taste similar. Crappie is better no doubt than bass, but I think bluegill and other small species of sunfish are just as good, possibly better tasting than crappie. They’re all better than catfish. Just this fisherman’s opinion.
I'm not real big on the freshwater fishes but have found crappie to be particularly disappointing due to their reputation. Because catfish can be cooked much longer without drying out, we prefer them to crappie and all of the other small panfish too.
I'm down with the dock idea man!
Hard to say love them both!!!😊
So good!
Love to watch!
My mouth was watering!
If the day comes where LFG and bamabass aren’t on TH-cam…..I’ll be deleting TH-cam. Great video 🇺🇸
Fresh Crappie on the board…
Bucee’s is the best 🤘🏻
Aye, LFD is back on the channel.. welcome back my good Sir 🫡! & good to see Ben also…He’s getting so big!! 💜 the fact he likes eating them, Now just waiting to see him Catch ‘em. A true a “Chip off thee o’l Block” brother ✊🏼🧐! Cheers with a Frosty Adult beverage my guy 🍻👊🏼😎🤙🏼
does it taste like a tournament victory 😂💪!!!!! your Dad is awesome
great video
Fish fry with LFD is always fun times.
One of the most important things about fishing. Pass on your love for fishing an the outdoors.
“Fresh crappie on the board!”
Ha, good one.
My favorite Space Jam quote of all time.
Worms I see in largies r shallow water lakes during the summertime when it’s hot, deep clear reservoir out here have tons of spots and they’re good to eat.
Never been this early to a video. Cheers from lake fork
Time to take the son on a fishing trip, gotta teach them young 👌🔥🤣
That's good old buc-ee's baby.
Already know this shi fire🔥
just wanted to see if you could do an episode on the tornado that hit flairs and see if people would donate to the cause. Love the videos
Have to say I have never cleaned a young or old bass that had worms in them last year I caught and cleaned well over one hundred of them and no worms and I check all my fish
Next up spots vs white bass
LFD's onion rings look 🔥.
I do the eyeball trick especially on those big catfish. I knew exactly what you were about to say when you said it might be morbid to some 😂
Fresh brisket on the board
Love the buccees reference
So cool 😊
What I've noticed is that if I'm catching spot's in deep water on or near rock cliffs in late winter they don't have that oily taste at all, but as warm as your waters are currently that taste gets more and more prevalent. Catch them in the winter and freeze them and save them for later, you won't regret it!
Love eating spot's!
Just remember keep the smaller one's. Pound, to 1lb&1/4 top's.
LFD bout got whiplash when LFG said " so Dad, I've got a question for you" lol
I wish table rock would do a slot for spots 12-14 would help a lot!
Freeesh brisket on the boarrrrd!
It's from Bucc-ees.
I keep any legal bass I catch under 3 pounds. They're delicious
I live in a private community with a 135 acre lake. They have a rule where they want you to keep all bass between 9 and 12 inches which is perfect eating size and return all the bigger ones. I find the bigger the bass, the least tasty they are, so I for one won't keep bigger bass unless I'm really desperate. This policy has been in place for 15-20 years and it's really helped the health of the lake fish populations. It use to be rare to catch a bass larger then 3lbs because the lake was just full of 2lbrs. Now we have a very healthy population of 5 and 6lb bass and even a few 8lbrs that help keep the other fish numbers in line.
Very blessed my friend 🙏
Love the channel! Family, fishing, outdoors.. that's life.. what do you recommend for a travel rod. Flying all over the world? Easy to carry on?
Crappie all day, ain’t nothing like a mess of Speckled perch
We getting a buc-ee's here in NC. Fresh brisket on the board, sauce on the board😂😂😂
Brisket on the board! ❤Buc-ee's
The buccees reference 😂
@LFG Next time for the bass, try them grilled or shallow pan fry like you cook your catfish. That’s my favorite ways to eat bass.
We keep sported bass on the regular because of what they do to largemouth/smallmouth populations here in western nc. Usually pretty solid!
Freeessssh brisket on the board ! Buc-ee's
Making Winston proud og fans will understand
Pikes place Seattle!!
You should be giving the carcasses to your chickens. Great food for them, super healthy.
YESSSIR!
LFG is that on lake Grapevine cause I used to fish on it
🔥🔥🔥
Up here in IL, and I've only kept largies from a deep, clear water, private lake with stunted largies in the last 10 years, have seen worms in maybe 2% of the bass I've cleaned.
I'm 48 and I grew up my Dad hated Bass fisherman Bec he never threw anything back So I've ate pretty much everything I ever caught And there a big flood control in Indiana Him and my cousin got permission to fish it This place had some Donkeys And the 3 of us caught a bunch And a big fish fry I would rather eat a Bass over any other fish
White bass fine by me too. It's all pretty damn good with beer and some weed. haha
I was not taught by anyone what fish is good or bad, etc... Now, I cook fish side-by-side for people all the time to challenge their odd misconceptions. What I've found is that the average, primarily freshwater angler has absolutely zero ability to distinguish a difference between any bass species(including hybrids, whites, and yellows), crappie, and any sunfish species. As long as they are cut, prepped, and cooked consistently. They all FIRMLY believe they know what is best and worst, but once the oil pops, they have no clue what is what.
Where you purchase that big cutting board I want one
Crappie all day for me
I personally don't eat Largemouth, but I'd definitely eat some Spotted Bass!
That saying is from bucees. Fresh brisket on the board lol.
Only been to buccees once but I still remember “fresh brisket on the board”!
Can you buy that googan golden crispy fish batter in canada????
Bass to me taste a little fishier, not bad. It's firmer and flakier that a Crappie too. I can tell the difference tearing a piece off. Looked good.
What do you think of walleye
I love bass mainly for sport now but they still are fish and are made to be eaten.
Nice to know LFG has a second career option as a brisket guy at Bucees if you tube ever fails
growing up we never declined Bass trolling in OK and TX
You should do a taste test, catch and cook of every local fish.
Your son is cool ! Enjoy this time because I promise you it goes by to fast.
Sissy buds!!
Buccees lol my kids say that all the time!
Bucees!!
Lfg I really enjoy your videos . But until you do a blind taste test I can't believe you can taste the difference. Especially if the filets are equal size. Never less keep up the great content.
Buccees!!
Ive fished almost my whole life and ive eaten my share of bass and never seen worms in them. I didnt know it was a thing with bass. I know sometimes we get walleye with worms so i guess it makes sense.
Any recipes 4 a Croppie sandwich ?
Buc-ee’s!
Catch and cooks is some of my favorite content on LFG
While every fish species tastes a different, I've found every one of them to be delicious.
when i waa groimg up it was 'smallmouth are super good to eat"
having had largemouth mostly on a dare, i wont be falling for the smallmouth trick.
you cant help think about algae and mud
Buc-ees
You should have partnered with catch and cook fish fry instead of making your own
The answer to the question nobody was asking.
My biggest gripe re eating bass is how little meat they have for their size. They're all head. They aren't as good as crappie and bream, but they make nice fish tacos!
Largemouth bass have a twang/aftertaste.
ive never ate a bass im gonna try it this year maybe tomorrow ill bring one back hard to beat crappie tho
😊😊😊😊
Still waiting on the LFD boat episode
I would almost argue spotted bass are better than crappie. More people need to start eating them as they tend to overpopulate lakes and take up food that other fish could use to get larger.
FRESH CRISPIES ON THE BOARD!!!
I know lakes and rivers can make fish taste slightly different but when I lived on Cherokee lake I would never keep a large mouth or spotted bass I tried everything lemon seasons but could not get rid of that musky bass taste. Crappie A #1 out of any lake; catfish Alp Channel then Highfin Blue and never will eat Mudcat or Hardhead ruins even the oil or grease. Striper takes being freash lots of lemon and seasoning baked. After a white vinegar soak.
