One of my all time favorite Clapton songs. And Daryl Hall’s vocals were perfect for this. Makes me wonder what an entire “Hall & Clapton” album would’ve sounded like.

Look at the album cover. Can you imagine what those eyes have seen? Solum. Regret. Angst. Yet he lives to fight another day. If a man could ever be broken, it was he. But a Phoenix rises from the ashes. Love that guy. One of a kind. The talent is undeniable, but the man underneath is what makes Eric.......Eric.

One of his greatest latter day songs in my opinion. I'm always amazed at how overlooked this gets. Even by Clapton's own people! You'll see songs from this time period like "Pretending", "She's Waiting", "Bad Love", and "It's In the Way That You Use It" make their way onto Greatest Hits/Anthology compilations but rarely "No Alibis". never understood that. The guitar riffing alone makes it worthy of entry!

    Beg your pardon, hello darlin'

Tell me wha chu' really wanna' do
    Don't give me no alibis

    Don't want no alibis

The hole you dig gets deeper
    You better stop, climb out
Tryin' to give it all to you
Baby I can see right through you
Sometimes you lose what it's all about
    Don't give me no alibis
Can't go through life tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason, for another lie
    (instrumental- Eric)
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories, tryin' t' justify
    Don't want no alibis
Just another reason, for another lie
    (short instrumental)
    Mountain gets steeper
The hole y' dig's gettin' deeper
Ya' better reach, an' pull yourself out
No one ever gonna love you, the way that I love you
I never wanna' see you doin' without
    Don't give me no alibis
No untrue stories, tryin' t' justify

One of his best opportunities to solo and draw on the magic within, his tone on this is just fantastic..! Sometimes you just need the right song to reach deep down and bring out what's really inside..!

One of the best songs by Clapton. All of his music is good. Just something about this song that gets me going. When I'm listening to it so is everybody around me from cranked all the way up.

This is an absolutely great song that alot of people can relate to at some point in their life. This song really lifts me up and when i need a slight attitude adjustment, this is one of the songs. Oh my God, Darryl Hall, just a great voice and a great compliment the two give each other. wish there were more songs with the two of them. Maybe Eric should go to "Darryls House"

+Shanda Bauguess That's why he's called Slow Hand. His touch is so deft and smooth he slows down time.

    • @cw7792
      @cw7792 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Steven Carinci FYI two attributed reasons why he's called Slowhand
1 the speed of the playing
2 when he broke guitar strings during live performances the audience used to do a slow hand clap whilst he fitted the new string on stage

    • @StevenCarinci

An amazing work by Slowhand here. The sloooooower tempo the band maintains with such discipline really allows beautiful space for the driving chord changes to shine. Everyone knows Clapton could of shredded on this tune but instead he went for deep soul, and precision. Touch, expression , killer vibrato and tone. Its all there. Frickin Amazing, Just a great piece of work. One of his best and yeah totally agree Unrecognized

I read an article about 15 years ago in which he said Journeyman was his favorite album, could've change since, though. I've always suspected this is his favorite song on that album. You listen to his playing, the way he whales on the bends, and you can tell he's having fun. This has been my favorite Clapton song to listen to and play since the first time I heard it.

80s Eric Clapton, is my favorite Eric Clapton. Not discounting his earlier music (Clapton is god) but being a teen in the 80s, this song in particular is like a time machine. Saw him 3 times in concert, and I wish I saw him more. Thank God for youtube right? :)
