The rectangle behind text is very useful. Here's an issue: I wanted to make it a graphic style, but despite choosing “relative” in the “convert to shape” box, the “extra width” and “extra height” values are absolute. So despite the font size, it'll always size the box with the initial values. Is there a non-scripting way around this?
Been using Illustrator for years and after watching your Pro Tips videos, I feel like I am learning it for the first time. I teach graphic design to high school students and these videos are worth their weight in gold. Thank you!
I am a self taught commercial designer so most of what I know is just from TH-cam… that being said, what is the difference between flatten transparency and expand appearance?
I'm speechless. Working about eight years with Illustrator and this feels like I just started twelve minutes ago. I will send you a "Super Thanks" later! So valuable! Thank you!!!
Amazing techniques. There are so many tools in Illustrator that I never use or else I use them incorrectly. I suppose it’s a matter of using these regularly in order to memorise them. Another great video Dan.
Thanks, glad it was helpful! 👍 Yea I think some of it is just repetition, although sometimes I forget tools and techniques that I don't use often, and end up watching my own tutorials again 😅
A very attractive ways of teaching new things in every video. I love watching your videos. You are a legend and best teacher. Keep it up the good work. Thanks from Pakistan
Awesome tips! Loved seeing you tinker with the appearance of text in the live. Fluffy McWuffywuffwuff is such an unappreciated colour we must use it more as designers.
Yes it's definitely under appreciated! 😅 Aha yea, there's actually quite a few ways to keep everything live and fully editable, whereas in the past I would have just converted the text to outlines!
Likewise @@ForeverDansky! I'm so guilty of converting text to outlines. Trying to force myself out of that habit seeing the live. Through the little tasks I've done it's saved so much time, effort and hassle... Makes me face palm thinking why didn't I do this before
Superb video Dan! I'm gonna have a field day with those smoother lines and Isometrics text tips. 😁 Love new format. But I'd say cutting between the two cameras can feel a bit harsh sometimes. 👀
Great video. For the puppet warp trick, why even bother in the first place? Just draw a line, expand the stroke, use handles to modify it and expand etc etc.
Expanding the stroke means you have the modify the path on both sides. Getting the curve looking right using the Puppet Warp trick takes care of both sides at the same time, so once you're happy and select Expand, the curve is already perfect. Depending on the design, it can also be easier to bend and sculpt a smooth curve, which may be especially helpful for beginners 👍
This (taking a long storytelling show and condensing it into a tight, TV-friendly couple minutes while still feeling like Randy's usual show) is impressive. That's gotta be much much harder than it seems.
@@ForeverDansky Thanks for the reply. I'm a retired adman. The ideas part, we had departments doing mac work so I never needed to learn it. In c1990 we had 20 art directors sharing one mac. Once I retired I had time to learn, it's been fun. Now I'm learning to draw and paint (digitally) again, we had others to do that part. I'm also learning to edit film (also fun with DV) having spent a career making TV commercials.
great job on using the 3D extrude and setting the depth to zero. The 3D Rotate (classic) which sounds like proper tool to do so have terrible results if you want to expand the appearance of that!
OK legendary would imply "of the ages" but it sounds more like you guys just figured out the text effects. That said, this is huge! Great vid, learned a lot
Dansky, you definitely drop bangerz man. I seldom even use Illustrator (mainly a PhotoShop and Figma guy), but these videos make me want to use it way more. Way more. I can see these tips elevating my game substantially.
i wanna ask a question about the seccond timestamp, why when i use the pencil tool the previous part dissapeared? leaving only the stroke i've made with the pencil tool?

Thanks for all the feedback on the multi-cam shots! My first time trying this properly and may have got a bit carried away 😂

Love the step blending, and automatically turning them into swatches.

@@ForeverDansky sorry, i meant draw a line, then expand it when you're happy with it. But it's still an interesting tip. Cheers.

Double-click the Pencil Tool icon for more options. It could be the option "Edit selected paths" being enabled that is causing this issue 👍
superb
How did you make the epic sound when you said 3 hours making it ? pls thanks
It's an effect in Premiere Pro called 'Pitch Shift' that changes the audio pitch, and I think there's a preset called 'The Dark Lord' or something 😂
Thank you so much 🙏
very good
Thank you! Cheers!
My friend, you explain it very entertainingly. I loved you a lot. But I am a Turkish speaking person and you speak English very fast =D
