    Firstly thanks for giving this away in your raffle on 19th, I'm the lucky bugger who won this unit, so thanks, pleased it comes with the cable to connect to battery or ignition as my 30 year old CBR400RR doesn't have USB or any power outlets, the mounting brackets are well engineered and the screen resolution and response time seem really good, I'm currently using it with buds inside the helmet but will consider a different headset to receive the audio if anyone can recommend better. At first it seemed a little strange fitting a flat screen to such an analogue machine but this brings this bike into the 21st century, so cool.

    I have a similar Andriod based GPS. While not Android Auto/Apple Carplay it has the same body and bracket system. Keep an eye on the four screws that hold the GPS to the Ram bracket and be careful when removing the GPS from the cradle. That plastic tab is known to break and then all of the load is on that tiny retaining screw. So when i need to remove the GPS I undo the Ram mount and unplug the screwed connector.

    Not saying this bad, but alternately any Android device around $150 with DMD will work best, with a larger and brighter screen. As you are not limited to Carplay or Android Auto apps. Virtually run anything you want, Rever, Calimoto, Google Maps, Chrome and even Netflix (not suggesting) but yea you could. Most modern devices are IPX6/7/8 waterproof so adding a clear screen jacket will make it rain proof.

    • @satur9satur9
      @satur9satur9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dmd. Doesn't do landscape mode outside of nav . Also no split screen. My phone's brightness is supposedly better. But the bigger icons and lower resolution makes it easier to see ( yes that sounds oxymoronic). Also this touchscreen works way better with gloves than my phone.

    • @andysol2002
      @andysol2002 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@satur9satur9 I don’t understand. DMD doesn’t stop any of your apps to use the mode it needs to run. DMD in itself is optional as you can choose any launchers to your liking. There is even a Apple TV lookalike called Flaucher with large icons. About the touchscreen I can’t comment since it depends on your device. I don’t mess with my screening while riding so it doesn’t bother me much. Native OS will be hard to beat in terms of functionality. Split screen is not very useful for me given the small form factor of the phone. But all set I can glad the device is convenient for your use.

    Major issues is if you have your phone (Apple) set up on your Cardo/Sena on BT channel 1 and the CarPlay on Channel 2 it is impossible to answer a call. More of an issue if you ride more than one bike. On warm days it occasionally switches off. The small screw at the back works itself loose with vibration.
    It’s a great idea but this unit is not the solution, it’s 85% there but needs a big company just to make it perfect.

    • @CaptainCremation
      @CaptainCremation ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a different brand of CarPlay unit but I am experiencing the same problem -- Iphone connected to CarPlay and no microphone works the way you expect. Only if you set your phone and Sena together as "Second Phone Pairing" it will make the microphone work, but will destroy the audio quality coming through the headset.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kevin. It was indeed on an RT.
      To wire it up was really easy. I used the supplied cable to USB and then used a din adapter with a USB adapter inside it, plugged the USB cable into it and then used the front left power outlet and it all works. I hid the cable behind the plastics on the left hand side of the tank :)

    The C5 Cast device just sucks. I installed it on my motorcycle and it worked great for a couple of days... after that it just stopped working. What happened?... well, first when passing through a city or town or any place with many cars or buildings, it started to receive a lot of interference and it disconnected my headset, then it restarted itself for no reason, I had to disconnect it from the power source now The on/off button didn't respond. Once I rebooted it would work fine for a couple of hours and then reboot again. Overall, a pain in the ass. In the end, it no longer recognized my smartphone and did not stream carplay wifi, it only connected via BT intermittently and kept resetting itself. I ended up returning the product and they refunded my money via Mercado Libre (Latam). Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and a very useful gadget for us who ride motorcycles almost daily, but I feel that the product needs to mature and in the following versions it will possibly be better and all these problems will be solved. For now, I will wait a few more months to buy the product again. Greetings and good riding to all!

It seems really great and functional except for the fact that when I play music through deezer / spotify the volume levels are not great, compared with just playing it from phone directly into my Cardo bluetooth headset in helmet. I don’t like touchscreens in a car and I dislike them even more on a bike. The temptation for using them while not at standstill is just too great (ex. zooming the map in and out using ludicrously small buttons) and full access to all the phone apps allows for far too many distractions/notifications. In my humble opinion the BMW Craddle (allowing you to use the Multicontroller to control the navigation/calls/bike mgmt) + BMW Connected app seems a somewhat more limited but safer solution.

      @@RiderCamTV WARNING: Riders -Check your headset/comms Bluetooth version before buying….you won’t get a full refund.
      Hi there, great review as always, but Ottocast need calling out very loud and clear about deliberately misinforming customers for pure profit should you need to send it back. Although clones of these units can now be purchased from Ali Express for around £80, I paid £173 on an offer code from Ottocast simply because of their returns policy.
      I have exactly the same problem reported elsewhere with the Schuberth SRC system (made by Cardo) fitted to my C3Pro helmet. Music, App sound etc all good, but the headset will just not connect no matter what.
      After investigation and emails back to Ottocast they are now stating that their unit is ONLY compatible with headsets using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) mode which I believe was introduced in Bluetooth version 4.1? The SRC is using an earlier version. It works fine with my Garmin Zumo and iPhone 14 using iOS 16 however.
      Ottocast are stating that because the ‘issue’ is my headset not the C5, they will only accept it back if I pay to ship it to them, and then they will take a 35USD restocking fee!
      I have gone back with screenshots saying that they are deliberately misleading customers. Nowhere on their website does it mention any Bluetooth headset connectivity requirements, and whilst their returns policy small print does mention the re-stocking fee, if they published the the minimum Bluetooth version and BLE requirement, I and others would not have bought it.
      They suggest I stick it on eBay!! Great.
      Keep up the good work

    Overpriced I think £150 would be more reasonable, it’s just a screen that duplicates your phone… no gps no battery

    02:02 "If you drop (your phone) .... you can't pay for stuff"
    I despair for our civilization.
    I've heard there are a few places around the world that have started using a kind of medium of exchange - coloured pieces of paper and small, embossed disks of metal that represent various denominations of wealth and that can be traded for things. I think it might catch on.

      I know what you mean and I still like using cash above everything but most people rely on their phones now. It’s all gone wrong 🤣

      If you have a newer phone. Vibration of bike can break image stabilization of camera. Touchscreen on this is better with gloves. It also has split screen and landscape mode for apps like TH-cam music and xm app which don't do it natively

      @@RiderCamTV Yes, I did. You didn't make a meaningful case for spending 250 quid on something that adds next to no functionality.

      @@satur9satur9 Why are you even playing around with apps on your bike while riding? Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

      @@ewenbruce5851lol, you don't think keeping your phone from getting destroyed by vibrations is a good idea? Either you've got a piece of shit phone, or you didn't actually watch the video.
