Another thing about Mono Black that people don't always realize: It's an amazing Ramp Color, rivaled only by green. Cabal Coffers/Urborg, Crypt Ghast, Nirkana Revenant, Artifact Mana/Doublers. It can explode really, really quickly; especially since they have access to the best tutors. My favorite color is green, but black is definitely my second favorite. Of course, I tend to play black like green but whatever.
I don't really consider that ramp though. Black is good at doubling its mana, but doubling your mana isn't ramp, Rampant Growth is ramp, Wood Elves is ramp. Crypt Ghast is not ramp.
in terms of ramp,
green > white > black > blue > red
that is all

mono-black ftw 24/7. I have 11 decks rn and only one doesn't have black. All time favs color in commander :)

Athreos, Nath, Prossh, Meren, Nicol Bolas, K'rrik, King Macar, Volrath, Lord of Tresserhorn, Krark/Sakashima
It's hard for me to avoid playing it myself

I have been playing MTG for over 20 years. And I have said at the top of my lungs since day one black is the strongest color . Especially in Elder Dragon Highlander
The timing for this couldn't have been better! I have mono color decks built for all 4 of the other colors, but just started putting together my first ever mono black deck

@@augustandre7122 well I want to build around a sacrifice theme so I considered Yawgmoth, but he gave so much value I found the deck kind of built itself and wasn't super unique or interesting. Currently looking at Endrek Sahr, Shirei, or maybe some sort of mono black partner combination of Keskit, Nadier, Tormod, or Tevesh
Perfect timing here! I'm about to test out my first ever EDH deck made from scratch tonight at my local game store and it's mono black as well. Horobi, Death's Wail is such a fascinating general i couldn't help but build a deck for it

After designing a monoblack/artifact deck, and seeing what cards are available to monoblack I am convinced I am a monoblack “main”. There’s so much stuff that you can do with it.
Right? I've been playing MTG since it was just a couple years old, and no matter what, I always go back to Black.

@@DaltCity Yes indeed! I'm finally getting back into Magic now, and I've been constructing "dream decks" on deck building programs, and I will finally get to use such gems as Cabal Coffers and all that good stuff!

I run Erebos, God of the Dead as Commander of my mono-black EDH deck. Card draw for days, lots of ramp and big, dumb spells. It's fun.
Yeah erebos is life, I like mono black decks also in commander my favorite deck and I like golgary decks
That sounds cool. Curious how you make the most of Erebos as a commander.
I have him and run him in my mono black EDH deck but never thought to put him as commander.

I love my mono black decks in edh. Been using the newish 40k decks and the traveler / the infinite for when we play the lower end of high power decks. When it comes to cedh, black is a no brainer for me. Insanity!

Everything is a resource. Your graveyard, you creatures, your hand, your library, your opponents libraries..
Mono black is not a color, it's a feeling, the feeling of seeing your opponent's face crumble when you cast a combo 🖤
agree. all colors do there thing, with the exception of green... green nearly does everything^^ sometimes it seems wizzard has forgotten that there was a color pay back in the day
I started EDH in shards of Alara, I built a Mono Black deck when people didn’t have a clue. The deck was so dirt nasty OP I took it apart. I would be killing the table almost every game even after they would team up against me.
I did run into slight trouble against a player with a Optimized Azami lady of scrolls deck that ran future sight to just auto draw the deck. But I shut it down with hand removal and underworld dreams. I was even beating Zur the enchanter decks. And believe me back then Zur was tier 0 meta
Black like blue and red however lacks substantial ramp

Even as a kid, when that card came out, I knew it was good! Hell, it's even better than I could have even thought!
