I think this is an excellent reveal and good for the story overall. During Egghead, Vegapunk called into question what the meaning of death is. As well as many themes that put death into a grey area like all of vegapunks bodies and punk records. This makes perfect sense and falls in line with the main theme of the show, which is that nobody dies in one piece.

@ we had a Sanji backstory just to find out he had another backstory before that one, so he wouldn’t be the first to have a “back backstory”. I guess we don’t know if the WG was into cloning at that point but as shown in the vid I think the timeline would work where MADS was working on clone tech. But imo it could make more sense that the holy knights kept the “real” one and gave the clone away as a gift during the God Valley incident or something like that. It could be an interesting nature vs nurture thing going on where they were raised by basically complete opposites

I think Shanks and his "twin" could both clones of Garling. Reasons/Thoughts: Cloning was a big part of the story when Garling was introduced. Young Garling lookes just like Shanks. The "Twin" was made because Shanks was lost at God Vally. Garling doesn't look as inbred as most of the Celestial Dragons, so Garling might also be a clone. Perhaps of one of the 20 kings, that have been cloned ever since the Void Century, to be the leader of the Holy Knights, and to remain pure, because of his talent and Haki affinity. It's a twist I could see Oda use, so it's not just an "Evil Twin" story line.
Maybe Garling could try to extend his lifespan by having a clone that grows in age over time like the manga Astra Lost In Space. I would prefer Shanks to just have a brother.

Everytime we get something in one piece that seems a little outside the realm of one piece we start folding our arms as a community. We havent gotten any confirmation that this is shanks brother or anything and people already saying they hate it. They had vegapunk on speed dial and now hes coming back in some way and this shanks look a like shows up. I think we have to see this through before we start yelling

I dont like the twin or clone plotline. It is so damn boring bcs it is being introduced way later in the story. Sabo will Supersede Dragon way later in the story bc Dragon is not old. He's around the same age as the admirals and Luffy had trouble with Kizaru... 👀... also got assistance from Kizaru when he was tapout & hungry.

Having a Clone Shanks feels like a bit of a cop out to me - We all want to see Luffy vs Shanks because then Luffy will get acknowledged as a Great Pirate at last. Yet if Luffy fights a Clone Shanks first it kinda will make that fight with Shanks feel less impactful to me.. There's no catharsis in having essentially Luffy have a practise round vs a Copy+Paste Shanks - he needs to fight the real one. So I'm hoping the Clone isn't a combatant.

The idea of going on this journey and attaining the One Piece is part of becoming a great pirate in Luffy fulfilling his promise to Shanks, in doing so, assembling a crew greater than his idols thus alluding to their future contest. If there is a Shanks Twin, who for all pretenses has the same strength and abilities as Shanks it makes the future fight with "Real" Shanks less impactful if Luffy essentially gets a practise round with a carbon copy. I think people are getting caught up in the idea of it being a twin. Nobody would bat an eye if it was just a sibling, because it’s natural to be curious about the figarland family that still resides in the holy land. Shanks having a brother/sister seemed like a foregone conclusion the moment we learned he had celestial lineage.
