Going a little bigger ( 6-7 inch props) may be beneficial for your use case because you dont really need the agility of a 5inch freestyler. Extra flight time and smoothness being the benefits.

Definitely go with a 7” long range mountain surfing type rig...55-65 cruise speed and 15minutes flights...like someone said below, don’t need the 5 inch agility and they aren’t the most efficient for your use
Amazing footage!! I'm sure like 80 people have said it - but that flat mount antenna somewhat under the arms can really bite you. And so can sitting down with the TX in your lap where your legs block the TX antenna. Standing up can really help RF quality. But just moving the RX antenna to away from the frame (ideally on the front) and away from carbon does help a tonnnn. Vertical helps mostly because you're less likely to point the nulls at yourself than with horizontal.
great shots, the agility of the drone platform creates a very different visual presentation from the fixed wing to fixed wing perspective that we are used to. This is a great blend of aviation and videographer skills/art.

The new DJI FPV drone with do over 90 mph. Nice work Mr Palmer ! You make it look easy !! The drone thru the prop thing is real. Losing a prop in flight results in imbalance so severe that the engine is usually torn from the firewall.
6:25 Trent's brother brings the RF signal jammer out of his pocket with an evil smile... I was curious if the drone felt any effects from the prop wash, but you scooted back and forth above/level/below the tail and never bounced a bit. Cool.
One guy, some buddies with airplanes, and a couple grand in drone equipment makes far more EPIC visuals than a room full of CGI programmers working on the latest space blast-'em-up movie. Bravo!

at 6:18 you're pointing one of your antenna nulls at the drone and going quite a distance away, that's why you failsafed. The best antenna orientation for crossfire is vertical on both the drone and the tango (has to match). That way your nulls point up and down instead of along the ground
I am new to the crossfire system so I hadn't done much reading into setup at all, so thank you for this! I also think I might have somehow put the transmitter into range check mode or something on the time it went into failsafe, it was weird that I didnt change anything and then the range was back to normal after a reboot. Also, when I got this setup I had really bad range issues and it turned out the antenna in the tango was disconnected from the board internally, so I do wonder if there was damage done to the actual TX board, its never good to run a transmitter without an antenna so who knows.
Everything the aviation “community” screamed bloody murder about only a few years back. Drones and planes in the same sentence would make you a pariah. Keep up the awesome work. Your vids are great!

Project 399 SuperG+ or Steez frames are excellent options. +JetFPV The only motor option these days is FPV cycle no matter whether you are going with a 7in or 5-6in setup. +KababFPV Also is that Tango II the latest with the v3 PCB that can do 1W? If not its a worthwhile 35$ upgrade. Speed is a funny thing with quads - a heavy pitch 3in setup will get you crazy speed but not be able to carry a gopro while doing it. For real fast stuff you have to look at 7in or even 10in.

This is THE best video I have seen. LOVED every second of it!! You did some great tracking with that drone. I was worried about concentrating on the target aircraft and eating a tree. Then I noticed, there are no trees there.. Battery life sucks but the product you do get is outstanding. To those haters and whiners, you can kiss the split in my horizontal stabilizer!! (I don't have one of those but I DO have a vertical split you can kiss! LOL) Seriously, this is great!! Thanks for taking us along. More more MORE!!
Trent, at 3:27 it looks like your goggles are in channel 8. That's the public channel, switching to an actual channel will give you better reception and range. Love the video, beautiful!
You should try a 6 or 7in quad. For the elevation you fly at, and the climatic flying you do (and the battery life you're not getting) they're perfect. I fly around Denver, and I love 6 and 7 in. They have so much more top end speed from the extra weight and thrust, it makes it way easier to keep up when chasing vehicles.
If I were to fly an FPV drone in formation with an aircraft, that would be hazardous. However, Trent Palmer is awesome, so instead I'll enjoy it by watching Trent do it and no one will get hurt.

I Concur. 7 inch is the sweet spot for speed needed for these sorts of missions. 6S R-Line LiPo packs with that will achieve success.
