    I switched to Mac after nearly 7 years with Dell XPS 13… actually, 4 of them. Had to return each one for service within 12-18 months. Now, I’ve got the M2 Air (16GB/256GB) and love it! I’m a writer and don’t use anything more intense than Microsoft Office or Photoshop. 256GB is plenty for the documents, manuscripts and PDFs I work with daily. The M2 Air’s build quality/performance is outstanding. I ain’t never going back to Dell.

      I don’t blame you, I’ve owned a handful of XPs laptops through the years and have always had some sort of problem with them, one of them I’ve needed to re apply a better thermal paste and add some thermal pads because it ran too hot.

    I got the base model M2 Air on launch day. It's been a beast for me. I work on my computer many hours a day. Mostly doing "regular" computing tasks, with some Photoshop and audio editing mixed in a little each week. This thing handles everything I throw at it no problem. And the battery life is insane. I think it's the best laptop for probably 90-95% of people out there. Unless you genuinely push your machine harder with video editing or something else graphics or processor heavy, the base M2 Air will work great for you.

    • @valismind
      @valismind  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree. I think that the Air is great for most people. I think if you're looking at the Air, there's no need to look elsewhere because you'd know if you need more, and would rule it out. M2 in it has been an absolute charm. Super happy with Apple's latest laptop line.

    I'm watching this video, on my new 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air, screen resolution and sound is really good. I upgraded to 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage but, kept the 8 core GPU. I'm a longtime Windows desktop user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop had Windows 7 Pro with 2T hard drive, cause I had a website, and build my own webpages, that's why I upgraded the Air. This is my first laptop, and I love it, very user friendly. I have the iPhone 13 Pro, so wanted something that would go with it. Soho Apple Store in NYC helped me set up my Air, and sink it with my phone. After the Mac class I checked out the 15 inch Air, was not impressed. Screen resolution was not much better than the 13.6 Air. I had them play Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to check out sound, was louder but not better than the 13.6 Air. My Air fit in my crossbody laptop briefcase, and I was able to walk around NYC with no strain on my shoulders. I've had my MacBook Air now for 5 weeks, and really like it. After my last Dell desktop barely lasted almost 2 years, with Windows screen going out on me, I gave up on Windows. I do recommend for future proofing to upgrade ram and storage. If you can't afford to do that right now, wait and save to do it. Don't be in a rush to buy the latest base Mac, just to say you got it, only to find out it doesn't do what you want it too. Personally I think Apple should make the base model Air 16 gigs of ram, and 512 storage. Allot of the tech guys on here say base model is ok for students, and grandma. What happens when your teacher asks you to do a more advanced lesson, but, you don't have enough ram. Or grandma doesn't have enough storage to put photos of little Timmy and Lassie. Not everyone had pro desktops, or laptops. If this is going to be your only computer, upgrade to better ram and storage. But, hey that's just my opinion. Which ever model you get, you will really like it. Great video very informative.

    Yep, the displays on MacBooks put them in a different league to all other machines.
    Best of all, apart from the gorgeous design, the jaw dropping screen, the slick keyboard and the OS, is - I can put this thing on next to my bed, playing a TH-cam longform white noise video and when I wake up in the morning it's still playing and hasn't even gone below 90% on the battery.
    If I'd had a business making laptops, I'd have retired the day after the new M1 Air's came out. More or less cannot be competed with.

    • @akin242002
      @akin242002 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Disagree on the display. The biggest selling point is the battery life and it's perks for other specs. The great battery life allows a sustainable production for long hours, higher base model display resolution, display refresh rate, and quicker video rendering.
      Other laptops can have a 4k display resolution with over 120hz refresh rate, but the battery life is trash with specs that high. PCs have to spec down the display and refresh rate to compete battery wise.

    • @salparadise1220
      @salparadise1220 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@akin242002 My reference to the display was meant to refer to the range Apple offer. So the 14" XDR screen is superior to the 15" Air Retina screen, and, for my money, also the 16", which is just a tad too big for me.
      Horses for courses though.

    I just purchased a 2023 Macbook Air 13.6" w/ M2 chip, 16gb RAM, and 256gb SSD... at a local pawn shop for $700. At first, I was skeptical as the machine had never been used, the charging block hadn't even been unwrapped yet... and, the owner said a lady bought it brand new, never used it, and pawned it for a couple hundred bucks and, she never came back!
    I feel like I got a great deal - since the base model is $1200, the 16gb Ram upgrade adds $200, and with tax... it's a $1500 machine for $700... I'm happy, and then... Apple released the M3 chip! WTF! (*I'm still deadset on getting the 16" MacBook Pro with the M3 later this year!)... so I'll have both soon enough!

    I owned an M1 MBA before selling it to get the M2 MBA. To most people, it's not the wisest decision. But I bought the M2 for £800 (or 1000USD) which was an irresistible deal considering the base M2 MBA in the UK costs £1249. Performance-wise, I couldn't tell any difference. But the screen in the M2 is absolutely stunning. It strangely feels lighter as well (assuming that the boxier form factor distributes the weight more evenly or maybe it's just me). Also another unpopular opinion - I love the notch! If budget isn't an issue, I'd recommend the M2. However, the M1 with its legacy design and already overpowered chip makes it the more sensible choice between the two.

I really like the new design of the M2 and I was super excited about getting one until my research yielded the problems with the SSD on the base model. I'm not a millionaire, so paying more than $1000 unless it's a serious business investment is kind of silly to me, so I'm not giving apple $1399 for an 8gb/512gb MBA. Of course, I could've gotten the M1 but getting better I/O (without carrying a dongle), having a stronger chip, more storage, a better screen, etc., was just a better deal.

    Just a quick note, the 512GB model and above are faster and do use more NAND chips, the base model does actually have two 128GB chips, one on each side of the motherboard. The 512GB model has 4 128GB chips. The effect is the same, more chips means being able to read write in parallel, but just in the interest of being accurate, its not a single chip design. There are full tear downs on this and the m2 mac mini where you can see the multiple chips when the motherboard is removed. Sorry for the pedantic comment.

      Pros of M2 Air: 1080p web camera, better design in the midnight blue, better CPU than the M1 Air. Cons: SSD issue on the base level, and not as powerful as the M1/M2 Pros.
      If you need more power, don't even look at the M2 Air. If a multi-core Geekbench 5 score of 8,000 is sufficient for your workload, then go with the M2 Air.

      What you gonna need it for? Office apps and just taking notes? Do you need it for cad or software development? Or even content creation? If you're not doing any of these 3 than get the one with more storage and less ram. It's a bummer but for note taking, looking through pdf and power points and media consumption, it's excellent. On the other hand if you're doing things that are more intensive you might need more ram. But in that case you also have the ability to get an external ssd to expand your mac's storage.

    • @CodexBS
      @CodexBS ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I have the m1 pro, and my dad has the m2 air, so I can tell you that the air is definitely lighter. I walk around with my m1 pro 14 and its not too heavy to to so with, although when you set it down it makes a louder noise than the air 😅.
      As for student use, I would say that the 14 can get through a day as long as you don't do anything demanding, but the Air will definitely last you through the day. I wish I had that level of battery confidence on the 14 but I'm not necessarily disappointed. Just know that the m1 pro 14 chugs a bit more than the m2 Air

    Apple should try more minimalism. one usb-c port left, one usb-c port right and a removed notch should be enough. If I could add something: Face ID Cam and eSIM.

    • @valismind
      @valismind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Face ID wont be added with the removal of the notch. It'll also make the display chassis thicker to accommodate for the camera and sensor. I agree that there should be a type-c port on the right side, however, I think the reason they did this is because then you wont have anything in the way of your mouse if you choose to use one.
      It always looks like Apple is making stupid decisions to be honest, but there's a whole team of people looking at their products and trying to better it from a common user standpoint.
