The only thing that stopped Kobe from being the GOAT, was the league blocking the Chris Paul trade. Love that you brought up how tough the west was in the 2000s, crazy conference. PHX, Spurs, MAVs, Lakers, Thunder. It was all out war for a spot in the finals knowing that 90% of the time that if you got through the west, you’d win the finals against the leastern conference which was an absolute joke then.

Saying Kobe was a copy of MJ is not entirely true. I’d say he was very heavily influenced by and closely mimicked a lot of MJ’s moves and style but he also had his own distinct elements such as the volume 3 point shooting and the ridiculously tough shots at end of games. I get not having Kobe in your top 5, there is a group of maybe 5-6 guys that come after MJ that it's pretty much okay to put in nearly any order depending on preferences in play style and some people would put him down at that 7 spot maybe even 8. If I see someone put him lower than that though I will start to think some serious bias is getting involved that involves more than the actual quality of the players involved.
If 4-Chip LeBron's Longevity Stats carry enough weight to rank ahead of 5-Chip Kobe, Duncan & Magic, then Kobe's Longevity Stats also rank over Magic and Duncan. A number of haters don't count Kobe's 2005-06 Season MVP snub to rank 2 Season MVP-Duncan over him. Others count Magic's 3 Season MVPs and 3 Finals MVPs to rank over Kobe, but ignore that Magic was never an All-NBA Defender, had lower Longevity Stats, and had better teammates to reach 9 Finals. Even if you buy those arguments for ranking Magic and Duncan over Kobe, which I don't, any list ranking Kobe lower than 6th lacks credibility. And if Longevity Stats carry heavy weight in rankings, then 6-Chip Kareem is still #2.

I think we can all agree that Magic's longevity was impacted by extraordinary circumstances and Duncan promised his dying mother that he would get his degree before going to the league even though many had him as a top 5 pick after his freshman year and #1 after his sophomore. And frankly as far as 05-06, Kobe might have deserved it over Nash but LeBron deserved it over both in my opinion. A 21 year old LeBron averaged 31/7/7 on better efficiency and 4 less shots per game

While I agree Kobe is top 10. A point that I think is never brought up when evaluating Kobes career is how bad Kobe was in the 2004 finals. Arguably the second worst performance ever by an all time great in the finals(2011 bron is 1st). I would put atleast 80% of fault for that series on Kobe. It was obvious he was gunning for finals MVP and the pistons played into that and it showed in the gentlemans sweep.
Kobe had a lot of very good role players or even all star players on his team when Shaq was no longer around. Shaq was the primary player during their 3 peat. Kobe is #11. Kobe did not have a long peak like the rest of the top 10 greatest players because Shaq was the main player who created space for the rest of the players on the team during Kobe's first half of his career.

I find it funny when people say Lebron passed Kobe in X year and that it's not even a debate anymore. The thing is, Lebron never passed Kobe. People simply just stopped talking about Kobe after he retired giving the illusion that Lebron is the better player as he becomes the sole focus of the media. Also, I don't want to hear about longevity stats when it comes to Lebron. The man formed 3 different super teams in his career. Of course he's going to have greater longevity as a result. Kobe played with legit bums after 2011 (40 year old Nash and injured Dwight followed by the rebuilding years). Meanwhile, Lebron at the age of 38 is still playing with a prime AD with an excellent supporting cast. Comparing Lebron and Kobe stats is dumb as well. When Kobe played, only a handful of players (pretty much all superstars) averaged 20+ points. Nowadays, you have role players averaging that many points with a bunch of people averaging 30+. Finally, a lot of Kobe fans are now in their 30s with families and are less active on social media than a bunch of these teenage Bron fans who never saw Kobe play. This further adds to the illusion of Lebron being considered better than Kobe.

Love that you brought up how tough the west was in the 2000s, crazy conference. PHX, Spurs, MAVs, Lakers, Thunder. It was all out war for a spot in the finals knowing that 90% of the time that if you got through the west, you’d win the finals against the leastern conference which was an absolute joke then.
And yet the Pistons, Heat, and Celtics all earned championships during that timeline. Two of which were earned against Kobe, who was favored to win both of those series.

Have you ever done a video on how Kobe is actually a great passer and got a bad rap from the media? Many of his great highlights are of him throwing crazy dimes to his teammates. From 1999 until 2011 he led his team in assists 10 of those 12 years as the main scoring option.. And the 2 years where he didnt were in 2003 where he was .4 APG behind HOF Gary Payton, and in 2005 he was 1 APG behind Lamar Odom (the year he averaged 35.4 PPG).

I get not having Kobe in your top 5, there is a group of maybe 5-6 guys that come after MJ that it's pretty much okay to put in nearly any order depending on preferences in play style and some people would put him down at that 7 spot maybe even 8. And if Longevity Stats carry heavy weight in rankings, then 6-Chip Kareem is still #2.

While I agree Kobe is top 10. A point that I think is never brought up when evaluating Kobes career is how bad Kobe was in the 2004 finals. Arguably the second worst performance ever by an all time great in the finals(2011 bron is 1st). I would put atleast 80% of fault for that series on Kobe. It was obvious he was gunning for finals MVP and the pistons played into that and it showed in the gentlemans sweep.
Kobe had a lot of very good role players or even all star players on his team when Shaq was no longer around. Shaq was the primary player during their 3 peat. Kobe is #11. Kobe did not have a long peak like the rest of the top 10 greatest players because Shaq was the main player who created space for the rest of the players on the team during Kobe's first half of his career.

I find it funny when people say Lebron passed Kobe in X year and that it's not even a debate anymore. The thing is, Lebron never passed Kobe. People simply just stopped talking about Kobe after he retired giving the illusion that Lebron is the better player as he becomes the sole focus of the media. Also, I don't want to hear about longevity stats when it comes to Lebron. The man formed 3 different super teams in his career. Of course he's going to have greater longevity as a result. Kobe played with legit bums after 2011 (40 year old Nash and injured Dwight followed by the rebuilding years). Meanwhile, Lebron at the age of 38 is still playing with a prime AD with an excellent supporting cast. Comparing Lebron and Kobe stats is dumb as well. When Kobe played, only a handful of players (pretty much all superstars) averaged 20+ points. Nowadays, you have role players averaging that many points with a bunch of people averaging 30+.
Finally, a lot of Kobe fans are now in their 30s with families and are less active on social media than a bunch of these teenage Bron fans who never saw Kobe play. This further adds to the illusion of Lebron being considered better than Kobe.
