I personally have the theory of Rahab actually having found out about his own Saraphan past long time ago, considering how close the drowned abbey is from the Saraphan tomb territory. To me, it'd give his "Kain saved us from ourselves" line a lot more sense, since, unlike Raziel up to that point, Rahab would've been completely aware of their whole past as vampire killers and proud warmongering monsters. Either because Kain told him or because he somehow dug that up, the thing is he knew that things were not as simple or black-and-white as Raziel believed. In the end, he proved his brother to be right. To me, Rahab was always the scholar of the brethren, which also might explain his more composed rationaal nature compared to the others. Rahab was probably the only of Kain's generals with an honest interest on studying the vampire nature, hence why he'd also want to find a way to overcome his weakness to water. While Zephon and Melchiah fascinate me in their degeneration and downfall, Rahab remains my favourite of Raziel's brethren for his awesome design, his eerie soundtrack and his intriguing calmed personality. A real shame he was doomed to be just one more casualty in Raziel's personal crusade.
I really enjoyed this break down of his character and I didn't even know how much those few words meant in the LoK series. For Kain giving anyone a heads up is a miracle, let alone their own demise.
Kain warned all of them of the future, then proceeded to travel to the future himself. They did with that as each willed. It's not like they had any choice.
As a kid, I made a soul reaver fan comic. Given i had no idea what they were saying or the story was, I made it where Rahab was a messenger to Raziel. I love his design that much that I didn't want him to die in the story
Something I always liked was how when Raziel tells Rahab that they used to be Sarafan he is completely unphased by it. Straight up says "Does it matter?" Without even thinking about it.
Rahab was always my favorite of the bunch aside from Kain himself. His design and delivery, though short lived, were so good. His clan territory was also very fun.
Another possible reason why he worked so hard towards water immunity is likely because he saw Raziel's fate and thought that if his boss was fond of throwing people into a big whirlpool as a punishment, maybe being waterproof might be something he should look into.
You should analyze their symbol clan to.... Melchia represents his big fingers, zephon his insect arms , rahab his fish tail, dumah his legs.... Turel his ears, raziel his wings, and kain his head/body....all complete a "perfect vampire body" ,part clans divide by simbol territory and habilitie
Other than a fish tail, Rahab's clan symbol also resembles the Manipura chakra's Sanskrit symbol, which is also called the Sun/ solar plexus chakra (which is how Rahab dies- via the sun). Considering the Hinduist/ Buddhist implications of the "soul cycle" present within the universe, and the developers having talked about how mythology and theology have directly affected the lore of the game, I think the resemblance is more than a happy accident. Sorry to reply so late! Just wanted to throw this in.
My favorite lieutenant. I always felt the line “...for one so maladjusted” hinted at a form of mental illness, especially considering his eloquent rebuttal. It’s interesting to note that despite Rahab’s apparent history of not fitting in with his brothers, Kain trusted him with crucial information. Information that Rahab kept in trust without exploiting his knowledge. An argument can be made that Rahab was the only other vampire that was aware of Kain’s ultimate goal, and accepted his role in this destiny. Adherence to this plan that meant his destruction makes the character Rahab tragic, yet noble in his own right.
If you haven't already done so then I request you fully cover Vorador, his smithing of the reaver, his rebirth as a vampire, his evolution and his contribution to the history of nosgoth and his eventual fall. Love your content, Long Live Legacy of Kain ✌🏻

You kinda forgot to mention an extremely important thing! Rahab and his brethren were the lowest level clan to have developed a sort of ranged attack! Somekind of acidic spit. It isn't just water, because it also damaged Raziel after he gained the ability to submerge and swim! Only two clans developed true projectile attacks. The Rahabim and the Turelim. Also, unmentioned was that the clan members not only developed aquatic traits, but also cobra / snake traits! But it was interesting to see pointed out that Rahab seemed to have been the most sane lieutenant after all those years. The allergy to even weak sunlight I wouldn't necessarily say it the same way, not quite explaining it to the same extent, it's a little too dumb if Rahabim are unable to even leave their territory unless in underground waterways. I just like to imagine that since Nosgoth sometimes has these focused sunlight spots in buildings maybe accidentally focused by prism-like structures around the place, the Rahabim are just more allergic to sunlight at such places, but not being able to go outside is a little too much. Also one awesome thing! All other clans are allergic to water thus cannot explore submerged areas. Rahabim can. Just imagine the huge amount of lost submerged secrets and lore the Rahabim could have uncovered and made use of! I always thought of them more as the intellectuals out of all the clans, not the Zephonim. Unearthers of lost arcane secrets, and explorers of forgotten depths! Kain could even task the Rahabim of recovering an old artifact or powerful relic underwater! And let's not avoid the fact that Rahabim could go hunt for humans though water obstacles, and further into more distant territory connected by water! Zephonim may drop down from a wall/ceiling, but a Rahabim can catch prey by pouncing out from water! This is an additional form of ambush attack available for Kain's armies!
Great video on Rahab, I honestly missed that detail about the Turelim carvings on the exterior of Rahab's boss chambers, a subtle bit of lore/worldbuilding by the developers there. Plus it explains some of the figures depicted on the stained glass, like that one vampiric face. I.e, that this was a Cathedral/place of worship for Vampires. Which may mean the Turelim had overcome their weakness to sunlight? The Turelim are depicted as some of the biggest and strongest vampires of the era of Kain's empire. Alternatively the place was a human place of worship the vampires had converted to worship of themselves by Turel? The Stained glass was put in place to deactivate the lethal sunlight focus. Which fits with humans developing places meant to kill vampires, becoming the homes/lairs of them. Like with Zephon and if I remember correctly Dumah's own Fortress? Rahab takes over a similar location after flooding it, and it's in a location his other vampiric brothers couldn't reach to harass him or his human cattle.
before the online game Nosgoth got shut down I so badly wanted to see what would have been done with Rahab's kin and the sort of hunters opposite them.
You can still play the game, and online too. They have a Discord server and instructions. I can't play myself because... well, my PC isn't up for the task, but if you can, go ahead.
thank you for helping me relive my childhood favorite series of all time, i've been binge watching all these videos, I'm thinking how have they not remade or a just made another LOK game in general after all this time
You know, I always wondered what would happened if Malek was also one of the lieutenants. Can you imagine how badass Vampire Malek would look like? As well as his devolved form? Plus he would probably be the firstborn since he is the leader of the Sarafan and Raziel would be the secondborn. A pity, Malek plays such a small role in the games, he is the most badass human character in the series imo.
From memory there isn't much left of Malek, his flesh was blasted away by Mobius and Mortanius bound his soul to his armour. Presumably that's what is buried in the Sarafan tomb.
I remember being so hyped for these games when I was a young teen. Still one of the best Vamp stories and worlds, ever. I still revisit LoK:BO, from time to time.
I love the direction you took Rahabs story in. I’ve read a lot of LOK lore over the years and I have to applaud the gradual immersion in water to build tolerance especially. I’ve always agreed with story lines that display conflict within the clans, but I never considered how perhaps the territories where conquered or reconquered.
Another fascinating character study. I must confess I've not actually played the series all that much (blasted block puzzles in Soul Reaver 1, for one thing), but I've always loved the story and lore. The fact that Rahab was ultimately correct that Kain saved them from themselves makes him one of the most tragic of Kain's lieutenants, certainly more sympathetic than Zephon.
Something interesting with Rahab is that if his mutation was already present prior to Raziel's, even partially, and due to himself putting through painful trial, it subtly reinforced the idea that Kain throwing Raziel to the abyss was indeed himself tossing the coin, expecting Raziel to come back stronger, and not simply petty arrogance.
I played this game when I was a young teen and it blew my mind. This game desperately needs a remaster. Loved the video, it reminds me of how much I forgot. The lore in this game goes balls deep and you've done a great job of making it palatable.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS! LoK lore is so rich and BARELY covered extensively, especially in video form. You do such a good job. Will be sad when I eventually watch all of these. Thanks again!
Thank you for the video. This game was so rich in lore/fantasy that I'm amazed that we still don't have a remake on last console generation. I played it when I was a teen and liked it very much. Once again thank you for keeping its lore alive. Great job.
When I was a little kid I remember looking through the Soul Reaver manual and just looking at the cool symbols for each clan and the Rahablim was always my favorite
So glad there is a community for this great series. Definitely one of the best stories in the video game industry. IMO. I really hope we get a new or remaster of this series in future. Great content.
It is a shame there wasn't more done for the brothers after their demise beyond showing their human forms and how they met their end. Would certainly be interesting had there been some additional stories like comics to show Kain's relationship with his "sons" and how he may have confided in the like of Rahab. Given the dialogue, it really does sound like Rahab knew what was up unlike the rest, who were just lost in their obsessions. Maybe even something with Kain in the present reflecting on the sacrifices he had made of his children, as he only ever really showed concern for Raziel as things went on.
I personally believe that Rahab was unquestioningly loyal to Kain. Over centuries, he became a minor confidant. Kain knew that while not everything could be shared, Rahat would keep the confidence. He was uniquely suited to a place free of encroachment by the others. He had little to gain by falling for alliances and intrigue. I believe Rahab knew more than any other of the lieutenants because he was trusted. Not protected, but informed when Kain saw fit to open up in any way.
That was a great take on how Raziel would come to take a stance that agreed wit Rahab's sensibilities, and how it was a shame he'd killed him. I love your character analysis.
Rahab is my favorite for many reasons. I like his symbol, the name (okay, they all had cool names), water is my favorite element, he seemed to have a good knowledge about what was going on, he seemed to be pretty balanced and he overcame a major weakness. I would have done the same through slowly adapting. As long as the body heals again through blood consume, it can heal again and adapt and it makes everything way easier if the water weakness is gone for example.
This series is awesome! I played several times! It’s very good to see these lore videos after so many years… I know it’s not going to happen, but I would really like to see a remake on the new generation consoles.
If there's any of the mutated vampire lineages that are worth fearing, it would be the Rahabim. Can you imagine these things taking over a world's oceans? Makes the Deep Ones out of Lovecraft's writing look like inbreds by comparison.
I don't comment often, but i just really REAAALLY wanna thank you for these Legacy of Kain videos! I hope you know that they're greatly appreciated (that i literally drop everything when you post! Haha) again, thankyou! Can't wait for the vids of the remaining brothers!
I think we also need to consider that Raziel's clan would have been the only real threat to Rahab's once they all developed wings like he had and could fly over the water they lived in. Given that, it makes a lot of sense that Rahab would aid in the destruction of his older brother's clan after his demise. Can't imagine Razial's clan would have been happy about his death and could have posed a threat to the other clans as well if they sought revenge.
I gotta hand it to you, brother.. This content is a true fan's work of art! I really appreciate the extra work done into researching the character's specific traits, I find myself learning something new all the time and I reccommend your channel to my buddies who never had a true understanding of the series. Thank you for existing.
I certainly love Rahab. I always admired that he was so calmed and how he appeared to understand more than he would say. He clearly kept contact with Kain and he wasn't shocked by the fact that Raziel was going to kill him. I had the imoression he was wiser than the rest of the brothers, at least when it came to analysing and processing what's happening. I agree that he was, at some point, the only one Kain could really talk to. Great analysis, as usual. Keep up this great job!!
We know so little about Kain's empire other than the tiny tidbits we are given, it is interesting to imagine what it was like both before it fell and afterward. I had not expected to get more insight on his empire from a video about Rahab, but it makes sense. Thanks for the video.
It reminds me of a startling kayaking discovery; ever been so creeped out that you just "nope", and don't say anything at first, just to calm down, then the creepiness just keeps you pertinently silent: between the HW20-bridge's side-by-side-stanchions a body was glued upright in the shadows a few inches below the waterline, obscured by algae (Cyanobacteria); It looked so curiously like a gel-covered head and shoulders that I prodded it with my oar, and found it was too realistically pliant and quietly Ieft.
Excellent video! Rahab was a little too easy in game to defeat but as far as the character goes honestly I wish more could’ve been done with him. As you pointed out in the video he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders and clearly maintained a good relationship with Kain. On top of that also pointed out was raziel basically agreeing with rahab at the end of defiance. Great video keep em coming!👍
"From ourselves.." Such a seemingly throw away line, yet a demonstration of this games wonderful writing. It wasnt until the end of the 2nd game when we realized that Rahab understood what he was talking about better than Raziel.
Absolutely adore this franchise. What a phenomenal job you've done in highlighting these amazing stories for a generation that may have missed it. Well done
Excellent analysis and attention to detail. Speculation is well thought out as usual and character analysis for the clan leaders is insightful and thorough, especially considering the lack of dialog/content for some of them. Well done and can't wait for the remaining Sons of Kain.
If you go by the evolution of the brothers, it would appear that Raziel would've ended up as a full fledged bat mutant vampire. He wouldn't have ended up as an angel by any means.
I think that Raziel absolutley needed to consume the souls of all of his brothers to fulfill his destiny. I'm convinced that at the end of Defiance when he put his hand on Kain's chest to heal him of his corruption he also passed to him part of his soul, along with the powers he gained from his brothers, wich means that Kain at the end of Defiance gained inmunity to water (from Rahab) and the power to shift into the spectral plane (from Melchiah and Dumah), wich allowed him to see the Elder God.
the abilites raziel's bretheren display are all diminished forms of thing Kain already could do. Melchiah? Kain has his Mist dark gift (the only reason melchiah can od it in spectral is because his own body is nearly there already) Zephon? his aiblity is not unique, if anything is a representation of vampire's brute strenght. Rahab's ability is a exception but its not a result of of kain's gift, but targeted evolution done by rahab himself, kain was already immune the the issue rain would cause him. Turel's ability is a baser form of telekenesis kain had. if anything the main thing about raziel needing his brother's sould to restore kain would be ot make Kain whole again as Kain splintered his soul to raise them.
Thank you for continuing with these videos! I would LOVE to see a video about Nosgoth’s history. It would be great to hear about it starting from the beginning and what happened to make it fall apart as much as it had.
It's awesome to see depth on my favorite story in gaming history and this is really thorough. I subbed less than 60 seconds in, currently bingeing the great content.
Your analysis and break down of Kain's lieutenants is first class and this was no exception. was so interesting hearing how Rahab adapted to his environment "so insightful" amazing work.
As a long-time fan of Legacy of Kain since my childhood and more, or less, a dedicated scholar of the beautiful series, I am always so happy to see it rediscovered and dived so intimately. It holds such strong themes and lessons that is found every time you look into it. Every character, even for the briefest appearances, ring with a noticeable hold onto the land of Nosgoth.
Melchiah resents Kain. Zephon is a tool of Kain. Dumah envies Kain. Turel worshipped Kain but was kidnapped by Mortanius, Raziel is taking an existential sabbatical on account of his horrific execution. Really thinking about things.
My theory is that the abbey is what remains of the ruins of the Sarafan stronghold. Their locations match I think.
I really enjoyed this break down of his character and I didn't even know how much those few words meant in the LoK series. For Kain giving anyone a heads up is a miracle, let alone their own demise.
They could remake it and add the character in somehow.
Yea, Rahab seems to be low-key the coolest of the vampire brothers. It's not a shem he died, but it's a shame he did not get more dialogue.
I love the fact that he keeps his sea theme throughout his various lives. It's a slick design ...
Rahab was always my favorite of the bunch aside from Kain himself. His design and delivery, though short lived, were so good. His clan territory was also very fun.
like dagon
@@joshuagraham2843 Exactly!🐟👍
I appriciate you having a good lore reason for why Rehab isn't in the execution in soul reaver 2
In reality he was in the pub and surrounded by bar wenches
Rahab actually went to buy his bros some lunch.

Imagine having people making content on the topic of Legacy of Kain in 2021... wow, this community is still great.
Another possible reason why he worked so hard towards water immunity is likely because he saw Raziel's fate and thought that if his boss was fond of throwing people into a big whirlpool as a punishment, maybe being waterproof might be something he should look into.
Lol
Just wanted to throw this in.
yup their clan symbol is their abilitties
No one ever made such a thoughtful comparison until now. You have done well. 💯👑
your analysis is so well made. I just love listen to you talk about the story of Legacy of Kain. Thank you for your work man.
I love these character studies. I always thought Rahab was the favorite son of Kain after Raziels fall
With how Kain warned Rahab of Raziel’s coming, it feels like he has become the favorite child
Rahab certainly was the most loyal.
If you haven't already done so then I request you fully cover Vorador, his smithing of the reaver, his rebirth as a vampire, his evolution and his contribution to the history of nosgoth and his eventual fall. Love your content, Long Live Legacy of Kain ✌🏻
I kinda hope he does do this, but I do hope he does a series of the characters based on their importance to the history
Like major and minor history
Kain, Vero, so on
With the brothers and- I swear to god I want a video on the asylum guy where you find the builder/engineer and with the knight/nurse
I'd like to see a study of Mortanius.

That's big dick furnace energy right there. Like, who even needs the cap of their skull with such delicious eats?
I wonder if Raziel regretted killing Rahab in retrospect after learning how despicable the sarafan truly were.
Good Character review, I didn't even realise Rehab wasn't at Janos execution and I've played this game so many times lol can't wait for Dumah
You think Rahab said to himself as Raziel was tossed into the abyss: "Should've learned to swim, brother." Lol!
I love how what rahab said about being saved from themselves basically forshadowed soul rever 2. He was definitely 1 of the smarter sons of kain.
before the online game Nosgoth got shut down I so badly wanted to see what would have been done with Rahab's kin and the sort of hunters opposite them.
I’m sad that game never caught on
Well, someone did post renders of what the Rahabim would look like. Can't remember the site.
You can still play the game, and online too. They have a Discord server and instructions. I can't play myself because... well, my PC isn't up for the task, but if you can, go ahead.
thank you for helping me relive my childhood favorite series of all time, i've been binge watching all these videos, I'm thinking how have they not remade or a just made another LOK game in general after all this time
I gotta be honest I never noticed the sea horses on Rahab's sarafan armour. Thank you for letting me know about this small but significant detail.
Rahab: *grows gills*
Kain: "Ah yes, my loyal son."
Raziel: *grows wings*
Kain: "BLASPHEMY!"
Gills dont look as cool
*"maladjusted: failing or unable to cope with the demands of a normal social environment." Assuming he was calling Rahab a failure.*
please continue with the LoK lore videos, i love them so much.
Nice a new one!! If possible I want to see all of the brethren explained XD
Presumably that's what is buried in the Sarafan tomb.
it's amazing how much info you can get out of so little dialogue and overall presentation. It's what makes Soul Reaver such a memorable game
Oddly enough, Rahab is actually my favorite of the 6 brothers. It's his determination, and humility that gained my favor.
I liked rahab the most cuz dumah thought he was greater then kain, zephon was a weak ass insect. Lastly melchiah basically a rotting slug
It takes a lot for someone in a position of power to accept their death. Especially if that person is immortal.
YES! KEEP THEM ROLLING MY DUDE!!!!!!!
Kains was my fav I'm gonna get a tatted on my arm
Not to mention that he was against razielim destruction and didn't like his other brothers all that much
That was a great take on how Raziel would come to take a stance that agreed wit Rahab's sensibilities, and how it was a shame he'd killed him. I love your character analysis.
I always loved how rehab retorts 'does it matter?'
12:54 you see that one glass over there, it always reminded me of Raziel's eyes and his blue skin.
This series is awesome! I played several times! It’s very good to see these lore videos after so many years… I know it’s not going to happen, but I would really like to see a remake on the new generation consoles.
Thank you for making this. It's fantastic to see other fans keeping LOK alive.
Keep these coming man. I see these character videos as a public service. Thank you for what you do!
Glad you like them! Thank you.
But he didn't help destroy his brother clan, he was against it, thats mentioned in nosgoth lore articles
This is so badass it covers accurately so many uncovered points in the game thank you
It reminds me of a startling kayaking discovery; ever been so creeped out that you just "nope", and don't say anything at first, just to calm down, then the creepiness just keeps you pertinently silent: between the HW20-bridge's side-by-side-stanchions a body was glued upright in the shadows a few inches below the waterline, obscured by algae (Cyanobacteria); It looked so curiously like a gel-covered head and shoulders that I prodded it with my oar, and found it was too realistically pliant and quietly Ieft.
"From ourselves.."
Such a seemingly throw away line, yet a demonstration of this games wonderful writing. It wasnt until the end of the 2nd game when we realized that Rahab understood what he was talking about better than Raziel.
These videos are SO VERY WELL done. Thanks for all your efforts and please keep them coming! 😀
Rahab was obviously Ice Fishing outside Janos Retreat :DDDD
Yeeees I've been super excited for this new vid, been thinking about it all week! :)
Absolutely adore this franchise. What a phenomenal job you've done in highlighting these amazing stories for a generation that may have missed it. Well done
Legacy has the best voice actoring ever
My guess is Rahab was downstairs mining the gigantic hole in the mountain, making sure no one got in.
Excellent analysis and attention to detail. Speculation is well thought out as usual and character analysis for the clan leaders is insightful and thorough, especially considering the lack of dialog/content for some of them. Well done and can't wait for the remaining Sons of Kain.
They need to finish this story. PS4, 5 or both. I would definitely buy it.
Yes! More lore!
If you go by the evolution of the brothers, it would appear that Raziel would've ended up as a full fledged bat mutant vampire. He wouldn't have ended up as an angel by any means.
Or a dragon, theres a fan art of it on DA that Daniel Cabuco commented on.
Melchiah? Kain has his Mist dark gift (the only reason melchiah can od it in spectral is because his own body is nearly there already)
Zephon? his aiblity is not unique, if anything is a representation of vampire's brute strenght.
Human Rahab was pbly out fishing when the others went to kill Janos.
My most favorite vampire lieutenant of soul reaver cause it said in his biography his one of the most powerful as well he’s the most handsome
Thank you for continuing with these videos! I would LOVE to see a video about Nosgoth’s history. It would be great to hear about it starting from the beginning and what happened to make it fall apart as much as it had.

I love how funs keeping this game alive.
Hey, my man bringing another soul reaver character bio, been waiting and happy to watch.
I love these lok character studies. Thanks
Taking up hobbies, most of which involve fratricide.
Rahab was the ride or die vampire general.
Glad youre still making these, keep em coming
