...but I've just tried to flip it so I can cut it out in HTV and 'flip' is greyed out....what can I do to flip it?

Ok. Got it. Select it. Press 'Convert to Shape'. Then, I can flip it.

How to make it without a background. So one can use it anywhere on any colour. ie. In a letter or on a video. Etc etc.

If you would like the center to cut out, you can place a basic shape in the center of the curved text so the machine will cut that out as well.
