I founded a chamber music ensemble as a nonprofit. Not anticipating operational cost to grow beyond $50K over the next three years I had filed an IRS1023 EZ and received 501(c)(3) status as a Private Foundation.. Does being a Private Foundation put me at a disadvantages?
For that you'll probably want to consult an accountant!
