I miss playing this game, and thought to look up the gameplay again to reminisce. I completed the game on Normal, but Hero mode gave me the most trouble as a child. The last clip you shared (Drill Platform) is where I stopped playing, since I would die constantly before I could shoot the hover guards down. Trying to shoot all 40 before you died was such a challenge. I hope to one day try again and learn from my mistakes, as I love the game's story and the challenges that was given in Hero mode.
Tip for the Onin Game [if you're struggling]. Press the select button on your console ingame, causing the game to pause and you can see which buttons you need to press. I did this repeatedly over the entirety of the level and did it first try with no errors. Lol!
1 Great tip for 2. When you have Dark Jak ready. Start the Mission and perform a Dark Bomb into the Water. That kills the robot inside of it, and you can drive over the water with the Jetboard to the end of the level. Pretty easy. I dont understand what you want to say with the textbox at 38:40. Its just confusing me. I did it with the dark Bomb and it worked perfectly at the first try.
For #1: If you don't constantly hold the shoot button the turret won't overheat and will keep shooting twice. If you do tend to hold the shoot button just release for 5 seconds and then continue.
Exactly! The trick is to use short bursts to prevent overheating. This mission is an even bigger pain on hero mode though. Even if you have enough precursor orbs for invulnerability, the machine is still vulnerable sadly
The HellCats were the hardest mission for me as a kid, recently did a run through and found you can evade the guard after each HellCat kill. so if you wanted to take the patient route you could easily destroy a HCC, wait out the guard, go for the next one
Personally, I didn't find the first one (jetboard bomb mission) hard at all. I recently replayed it, but this video reminded me of the cheese you can do by jumping from one area to another like you did, I did that a LOT when I was little. For me, the first racing match was much harder than the second and third, but now knowing the way you did it, I don't think I'll have trouble with it anymore
I cant wait for this game to come redesigned on PS4. It was hard frustrating game, and it took me over 12 years to finish it, but it was still much more fun then Jak3. Worth it.
I'll admit when I was a kid this game was so hard I never actually beat it till I was like 11. But I just played through it again and it was quite the breeze.
there's missions that STILL make me fume with anger today. The difficulty seems so inconsistent at times. It's easy 90% of the time and suddenly there's a specific mission where you are locked into a task with special rules where things don't behave as they did up untill that point
My thoughts on each mission: 10. Not hard if you memorize where each well is and what routes you have to take. Always do a 360 in the air to get a boost before going up the ramp so you'll have enough momentum to jump high enough. 9. You will have to abuse the jump a lot during the races, and you will have to memorize each shortcut or track design exploit to gold all 3 of them. The reverse races could potentially throw you off, but their gold times are SUPER lenient. 8. I actually managed to pass this on my first attempt. At the needle nose Metal Head swarm, I just spammed aerial Blaster kick and punched when they got close to the men or Jak and that was it. Just make sure that you don't accidentally hit one of the men or take damage from the explosive Jinx plants early on. 7. This is a pretty cool area. Always refresh your oxygen in the Titan Suit when you want to, and time your punches so you can destroy the mines or kill the squid metal heads safely. When running from the metal-pede with Sig, abuse the rolling jump when it is safe. 6. Always predict where the mantises will jump, and refresh your ammo whenever you can. For 124% runs, DO NOT MISS ANY PRECURSOR ORBS. LIKE THE 1 IN THE SEWER, THEY ARE PERMANENTLY MISSABLE IF YOU DO NOT COLLECT THEM. Against Kor, spam aerial Blaster and roll when he does the dark eco blast to dodge it. 5. If you have good concentration, controller layout memory, and reflexes, you will easily eclipse 1000 points here. 4. Another place where you have to abuse jumping. Always make sure that you get through a ring when you approach one for the first time, and slow down when necessary to not lose control at sharp turns (as jumping could result in you hitting a wall and thus stopping you). 3. Another one I passed on my first attempt. Sneak up on them and then spam Vulcan Barrel to down them quickly. Also allow them to crash into other Zoomers, as the explosions will catch them too. 2. Punch frequently and don't try to jump across the water. 1. Another first attempt mission. Obviously, the 40 hover guards are the hardest part of it, but I got past it no problem. Blast as soon as they approach you, and make sure when there's only one of them that you follow where your first blast knocks them. After that, just take down all the ship guns as quickly as possible and that's it. Don't worry too much about the hover guards in that portion.
FuZy If you aim for the exact center of the hover guards, then shoot twice, you will kill them in one attempt. When I tried this, I made sure to knock the guards around so I could buy a bit more time before they started shooting.
jackthegamer For a 124% run, Erol is the least of your problems during that mission. The point is to get to the goal below 2:07, not to beat Erol. That way, you can skip the City Race task challenge.
Well, to actually make 2:07 you'll have to be well ahead of him anyway, so if he overtakes you at any point other than at the very start, your attempt at gold is well past fucked.
On any of the races, if you finish them under the record times, you will get the orbs as you complete the mission. So for the city race, beating Erol under 2:07 means you get all 9 orbs, so you don't have to redo it later.
10, fairly easy when you figure it out 9, I don't have much trouble here, only when I mess up the shortcuts 8, the hardest part is trying to juggle getting the gems and keeping them alive for me 7, kind of the same thing with 8, though the punching is awkward with the suit, leading to death, small tip, you can rush past the octopi if you're fast enough, the sig part is pretty easy, the only part that gets me is the metal pede part 6, I don't die here that often, beforehand I usually stock up on ammo, and the boss I focus on him and only attack the minions when they get close 5, alright, this one can give me a lot of trouble, but keep getting the combos 4, can give me some problems, but overall, slow down when needed 3, this one is pretty simple, as I said with 6, stock up on ammo 2, oh boy, one of the most infamous levels in the entire series, before you collect the seal, figure out how to get back to the concrete area without falling into the water, if you have the guards on you, then it's slightly better practice 1, this mission is only truly hard on hero mode, may God bless your soul when you get here, the enemies have higher defense and seem to shoot faster, before you get to this mission, get enough orbs to get unlimited dark jak and farm skulls until you can get mega dark jak and jump over the fence, then dark blast while big and it will take care of the guards before the infamous 40. This level made me quit hero mode and I still have not gone back to try it
38:15 is easily the worst mission in the game. It's got way to many unbalanced mechanics and must have not been thought through at all. The enemies are on unlimited spawns and your out in the open with them so they shoot in all directions with no where to take cover. They spawn in 2 sometimes 3 directions trapping you. Even thou you can 360 with jack's blaster it still only hits in 1 direction all the time so you have 0 defence for behind. You can't run past the enemies because the ships lock on and shoot you with no way to block it making it far to easy to get stuck surrounded by enemies. If you get knocked into the water you are instantly dead? It's a broken mission and contributes nothing to the game and it made no sense even being there. The artifact should have been given to you upon completing the previous mission. I like a challenge but this was just purely unfair.
Number 1 is only really hard on hero mode since the health bar can't really take much damage, you need both skill and luck on your side to get past the first turret section, the rest of the level is pretty easy even on hero mode.
Damn it if only I had that figured out when I did the Class 3 race and the first one when dropping those bombs on the eco wells! (Even though I completed them but going through it the hard way haha)🤦♀️ And boy did I have a REAL hard time escaping the water slums! 😡
#2 It's not that hard if you can focus enough to avoid getting shot. But imagine if all of those guards had the yellow/golden armor they get after beating the tomb.
Issue is simply the inverted aiming and poor standard sensitivity setting with the PS2 analog stick. With my PS2 Emulator, I specifically used a mouse for those mission in Hero mode, and I passed it on my first try because the aiming ability is much more accurate and controlled.
what do you mean? I know theres a chance you can softlock the game if you try to do a stadium sidemission right before the metal head invasion, and the mission icon never appears.
@Base Bass Forte yea, it was a well known gamebreaking glitch back in 2003. Sony even offered for people to send them their memory cards to get the bug fixed.
