Now this is REAL Budget :), so happy to see a 20 dollar budget and not that stupid shit where ppl make 60-100 “budget” decks. Budget needs to be so low that a person who’s new doesn’t feel like they wasted a bunch of money if they don’t like the game.
This has been the entire point of the channel, I want to make the game easy and accessible for everyone. I also want to make it so if you spend your money on trying it out and not like it you didn’t just waste 50+ dollars on something you’ll never do again. I also know lots of people are budgeting more these days so I figured if I can make decks under 30$ they would be more inclined to try the game. Showing that power isn’t always in the price tag. Thank you so much for commenting 😁
I am so happy you did a deck tech on Anim! I've been surprised nobody was talking about her and got my copy asap. Definitely going to take heavy inspiration from you. Keep up the great work!
Same! I was amazed she wasn’t getting more buzz when she was previewed but I was super stoked to build her. I’m glad you liked the deck and thank you so much for commenting 😁
I try my best when testing them to prepare not only for best case scenario but also how the deck functions when the game plan gets messed up to see how it recovers. So thank you so much 😁
Really cool deck tech! I have an ashling, the pilgrim deck that also wants counters on the commander. Agitator ant does WORK! and the best part is that it doesn’t actually force your creature to attack since the +1 counters and goading are at the end step.
Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun brewing and I did a short for Ashling the Pilgrim and finding ways to put counters on in red 😅 that’s what helped make this one.
Great deck on a budget. There are a couple of things that can be done to make it even stronger while staying at the same budget. First is focusing on one theme, committing to it and create synergies around it. This is important for budget decks and especially for tempo oriented decks like this one. This deck wants to get out the commander asap and pressure life totals, all the grindy recursion and life gain cards don't contribute to that. I would even forgo all the mana rocks except for Sol Ring in exchange for turn 1-2 development to enable the commander the moment she drops. 5 mana drops should be on a level of Resurgence or Jor Kadeen. Austere Command is great in many budget decks but in this one it's misplaced. You can't utilize it too well for a one-sided boardwipe, 6 mana is a lot for this kind of deck and we want to be the one forcing the boardwipe not spending our turn casting it and letting everyone else develop before us after. 1 drops to protect your commander: Alseid of Life's Bounty, Benevolent Bodyguard, Selfless Savior, Ollenbock Escort 1 drops that give fast mana: Goldhound, Skirk Prospector or even Strike It Rich 1 drop battle cry with evasion: Signal Pest 2 drop replacement for Explosive Entry: Requisition Raid 2 drop replacement for Abrade or Roast: Bovine Intervention 2 drop backgrounds: Guild Artisan, Veteran Soldier 2 drops interaction creatures: Bounty Agent, Cathar Commando, Dauntless Dismantler 2 drop mana dork that attacks well: Brazen Collector 2 drop buffer: Keleth, Sunmane Familiar 2 drop buffer that's pricy on this budget but a better replacement for Bronze Guardian: Inti, Seneschal of the Sun 2 drop token buff and vigilance: Intangible Virtue 3 drop "finisher" that can one-shot someone: Devilish Valet 3 drop second Anim Pakal: Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin 3 drop counter doubler on a budget: Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion 3 drops creature card draws: Mentor of the Meek, Welcoming Vampire, Rumor Gatherer 3 drop buffer: Orzhov Advokist 3-4 drop make everything indestructible for attacks: Stalwart Pathlighter and Loyal Unicorn 4 drops doublestrike for team/tokens: Blade Historian, Neyali, Suns' Vanguard 4 drop replacement for Reality Scramble: Fireflux Squad 4 drop unblockable for the whole team: Odric, Master Tactician 4 drop consideration that provides haste and buffs: Ogre Battledriver 3-5 drops with insane buffs: Skyhunter Strike Force, Goldnight Commander, Adriana, Captain of the Guard, Starlight Spectacular, Valor in Akros, Shared Animosity 5 drop consideration that impulse draws 3 cards with a discount of 3 for each of them: Commander Liara Portyr
This is a super comprehensive guide to upgrade the deck! When I built it a lot of these were just starting to creep out of price range. Excellent suggestions though and fantastic advice for what to cut and what to cut for. Thank you so much for commenting
That means so much! I'm always trying to make magic as accessible as possible so its always nice to see feedback on the deck and that the channel is doing its intended purpose
Thanks for showing such a fun build at a budget! I am going to use much of this. So many times I’ve dismissed a commander that involves counters and/or tokens because cards like The Ozolith, Doubling Season (not for this deck), and Anointed Procession are expensive. But this shows I don’t need those to enjoy what the commander does.
Nope and it’s one of my favorite aspects about building on a budget, showing different ways to go about strategies or under rated cards that maybe some people haven’t heard of. You can always play and just have fun with about any deck 😁 thank you so much for commenting
I would suggest Master Warcraft because it has many applications, Orzhov Advokist for the same reason you have Noble Heritage, and Neyali Sun's Vanguard to give some delicious Double Strike to all those tokens. As for suggestions for future builds, Oskar Rubbish Reclaimer would be cool. He allows you to play almost anything on instant speed and has synergy with stuff like River Kelpie and Tormod the Desecrator.
Those are all excellent suggestions, I think one of the only reasons I left out the advokist was because I didn’t want to have a crowded 3 drop spot so you could reliably play Anim every time. Also I will definitely look at Oskar because I was really interested in him when he dropped but never really did much with him. Thank you so much for commenting 😁
Bro! I had a really similar Anim Pakal deck that I built and it was awesome!!! sadly I lost it and I never did a decklist... but this video made me wanna make it again 😁 thank you! the thing I could add to the deck would be some more ways to protect the commander. starting again from 0 counters is really painful and most good evasion is kind of expensive sadly, anything that makes anim pakal phase out is godly on this deck
That’s awesome! It was a really fun build and looking back I would try to include more protection but unfortunately protection especially phasing is at somewhat of a budget premium but hopefully they fix that one day. Thank you for commenting 😁
Might look at throwing this together for the other half as I know he was interested in the commander from pre-release. What's your thought at running together the new Francisco with old Akiri with maybe Lurrus?
I think Mardu with Lurrus would be a crazy combo I’d definitely take a crack at building it! I’ve got some thoughts already but I’ll have to see what jives and what doesn’t, thank you so much for commenting and I hope your other half enjoys the deck 😁
Urubrask's Forge is another really really good card for Anim Pakal, its like $2.50 right now, letting you get that trigger for Anim Pakal off every turn without needing to put anything on the board at risk
It was in the original deck list, unfortunately it spiked before I could record the deck tech and wanted to change it out to keep the deck budget. Completely forgot to mention it though thank you for bringing that back to my attention, great include! 😁
I just made this deck with cards I already have in my collection. I also have a life gain sub-theme with Daxos Sun Blessed and everyone's favorite Heliod counter engine. Slap Helm of the Host on Anim Pakal and watch everyone's brains break.
I know I've commented a lot but i just remembered Dragon Throne of Tarkir. Anim Pakal doesn't need to attack so this would be a good way to leverage her high power and in the event they're in play at the same time, she wouldn't have to swing if she got counters from Agitator Ant.
@@TypicalGeminiMTGdon't want to be a bother but I must suggest Goldnight Commander and Valor in Akros since you're dumping so many creatures simultaneously. If you get to untap with your army then Burn at the Stake can finish someone without having to deal with combat, very useful for getting around Ghostly Prison and its relatives.
@@TypicalGeminiMTG oh my goodness please don't play Starlight Spectacular. It's a good card but calculating it slows the game down almost as bad as a Scrambleverse. Swap in Goldnight Commander or Valor in Akros.
That should have been a definite inclusion! I’ll make some changes to the deck soon and be sure to include this! Thank you so much for letting me know about the card and for commenting 😁
sooo… asking to you for some help. I built a 50€ boros equipment that got literally destroyed by my friends with their huge tokens and landfall edhs… So now i’m searching for a budget deck (20/25€) that can make me but a strong board the fastest possible. Which deck do you suggest?
Well there’s several options depending on what you want to do, are you looking to also make an army of tokens or are you looking for something that vomits permanents into play? Do you want to be able to dismantle their boards or are just looking to put more out stuff than they do? And lastly do you have any specific colors you were thinking about?
It recently occurred to me that Halo Fountain would be a good upgrade since you're creating so many tokens you'll be able to say "I Win" awfully quick.
This is another one of my favorite reasons for doing these videos because there are so many great cards that come out, that end up not even being on my radar. Then someone’s reminds me they exist and it it like a perfect fit for the deck. This is just an instant win with minimal effort and excellent addition!
Unfortunately that’s the rub sometimes with budget decks. It only take a couple cards to creep up in price to inflate the whole deck, but you could still pick up most of the deck from TCG player for under 30$ it says
@@TypicalGeminiMTG thats the one issue i find with decks sub $20, they usually never stay that way because there’s always a couple rares or mythics that “spike”. Its hilarious though when ppl think $150 is budget, and even funnier when you hear a person say “my deck is budget its only $400”….lmao my 5 edh decks are all $30-$100 max beside my onmath deck cuz most ppl dont play casually no more so i need something thats stronger. Ive built over 200 commanders and used to have 18 decks at a time; what i learned is staples aren’t a thing other than ramp and basic lands, and underplayed uncommons and old edh precon rares make the best budget decks that stay cheap.
Facts, this is usually why I like building around “older” commanders instead of what new for the most part. I find older commanders have cards that have stayed cheap longer so they are less likely to suddenly spike and stay high. But I do agree about what people qualify as budget decks. Anything over 45$ in my opinion is outside of budget. I try to build decks around 20$-30$ because it’s an amount of money that doesn’t hurt to bad if you buy the deck and end up not liking it. Plus you still have some of the cards so not a bad place to start collecting if you choose. Ultimately I find budget EDH decks are the best way to introduce new people to the format and I love making magic as accessible as possible for everyone 😁
