My dad had a '96. It was fun to drive. The headlight lenses yellowed and became an issue after a while though, no amount of polishing would fix them... Never replaced them, too expensive.. Too bad they got rid of the air ride, I thought that was one of the coolest features on the car. It would lower at highway speeds, very cool.
4.6L, 280HP, 285 ft-lbs, 18/26, 4 spd auto, Edmunds rating 5/5 star. I'm notta "ford-guy" exactly, but lawdie, lawdie this is sweet piece. Gawd bless ya, Anthony
I remember seeing these here in The Netherlands in the nineties, back then I thought it was a weird car....but now, fantastic youngtimer! Great ergonomics, very exclusive, good value for money! That red light strip on the trunk....Lincoln was ahead of its time, you can see that on most Porsches and Audis (and other brands) in 2020
I owned a Thunderbird at the time with the 4.6L engine - you need to change the Transmission fluid at about every 20,000 miles due to Torque converter shudder.
@Eugene Thirston My 1995 Thunderbird started to shudder at 20,000 miles and changing the trams fluid worked for me - Back In the day Ford changed the fluid under the warranty because they knew of the problem & wanted to avoid changing the converter.Hope your fluid has been changed before.... give It a try & be sure to drain the Torque converter - drop the pan -check for excessive metal around the magnet & change the filter (about 13 quarts) use the correct Motorcraft fluid Hope you have a trusted Mechanic or you may have to go to the dealer who should know of this problem.Fluid cost a bit - Good Luck & let me know how you make out Sorry don't know much about the catalytic converter $$$$ Again you must have a TRUSTED Mechanic
I also had a 95 T-Bird 4.6. Tranny was shot at 60,000 miles. The Mark 8 has a 2 piece driveshaft, and a real annoying driveshaft vibration between 70 and 80 mph.
I'm a GM guy through & through, but these I find were one of the sexiest cars of the 1990's. Test drove a medium red '94 with tan interior back in 2013 before I got my Roadmaster.
I had a 98 “base model” with 63,000 miles. With a pro tune and custom true dual exhaust, it went 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds (just a couple ticks slower than my hemi Dodge Magnum).
Beautiful, but, where's the MOONROOF? The air suspension was great when new, then expensive to replace or repair. Many I knew, switched over to coils instead. Still, ahead of it's time back then. Pretty nice performance too.
I owned a black in black 96 LSC w chrome wheels moonroof, I bought it in 97, hot car, brake rev it w the sunroof open and windows down, smoke came in the car and out the sunroof like a chimney
I owned one of these. One of my better cars but you paid for it in premium fuel use. Mine was a '94 with 93,000 miles.. all original and nothing done. Previous owner throught it needed new transmission but all it needed was an MLPS sensor that cost me maybe $115 to fix. Suspension warning light always came on but never let me down.. probably needed a new dryer. Own a 1993 Buick Regal Limited coupe now and probably prefer those.. Series I 3800 motor is fantastic. Also have a '90 Mark VII LSC SE.. far better car than the Mark VIII in my opinion, even with less power. 5.0 HO motor calls for regular and uses a lot less of it than the 4.6!
I love Lincolns more than any other car. I love all the models of the Lincoln series. This Mark series is my most favorite of the Lincoln series. It all started back in the 1950's with the Mark Lincoln then carried on into the late 1960's and the 70's. This car is really nice for a 24 year old car. Even the bumps and bruises is not that bad and all could be fixed easily. I love these into the 1998 model year the last year of the Mark 8. This car will make someone a great automobile. I prefer the LSC model but hey beggers can't be choosers plus I prefer a moon roof too but again beggers can't be choosers. I love these wheels on this car especially in chrome. But in chrome in the harsh weathers they were know to peel and corrode. But the argent wheel is okay. This car in Ohio where I live will be a antique next year 25 years and it is considered a antique. Wish I had this car they are extremely hard to find and clean like this. A great car Anthony at a good price. Thanks for sharing!
You will love my next Lincoln Mark on deck then. 1997 LSC with a moonroof and Chrome wheels 😍 Another California car! Checks all your boxes. Give it a few weeks for a video!
adguy4 *** ummmm no - for the 93-96' models had 300hp then the LSC 97-98 had 10-15hp less....my mom had a 96' mark black on black beauty... w/ aftermarket monochrome horizontal grill, chrome rims and all 5 windows tinted... always turned heads... as you go flying past..... after 60mph the car lowers a couple inches.... (ie leading to the airbag suspension issues these cars are known to have.... *** one recommendation... go for one with the sun roof... as it deletes the tacky dome light...as you can see in this video ;)thanks for the video posting!
Ehhhh. Pretty cars. But I know they can be troublesome and hard to find qualified shops to repair them. I usually stay away from them even though the temptation is usually strong.
Why wouldn’t it be on the front/ rear bumper trim then? The car was in southern California until 87k miles. There is no rust on this car, I can assure you.
@@specialtymotorcars side pieces are cheap metal. Your bumpers are steel and chrome. You can take off the side pieces and have them chromed if desired. But probably cheaper to take them off and replace with new
@@specialtymotorcars it's not what I need, there is a PLASTIC CILYNDER aboutthree inches long twisted in to the AIRSPRING and this plastic unit(the air pump through that unit in to the AIRSPRING) has wire connector and AIR TUBE ,all goes to this PLUSTIC UNIT ,it looks like the tube is pushed in but I coudnt pull it out.
Lincoln Mark VIII. Drive everything else first. I liked the Lincoln Mark VIII. I hated Lincoln Mark VII styling. Glad to hear it has been converted. Mark V was the real popular one from the 70's. Cannon from tv drove a Mark IV. Sorry to hear about what happened to you with your Mark VIII experience. You are doing just fine now. It is very clean inside. Too bad it did not offer digital gauges. It is interesting to note and think the Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar were on the same platform and the Lincoln had more features. I hear you about the rust.

I can’t remember the complications with the air ride, I just know they were somewhat troublesome. It rode great 500 miles home, I didn’t even know!
@@specialtymotorcars Yep, I think the rear airbags went out on his, expensive to fix. Yours is nice, good luck with the sale man.

competed with the Cadillac sts? this Lincoln by not having a northstar engine is clearly a better choice than the gm alternative!
Touché!
I think It competed directly with the Eldorado/ Riviera of the time. This coupe was the one to get though, w/o a doubt.
@@cocodrilo1443 Anything without a northstar engine was the one to get..
This and the Buick Riviera were the last of the great big two doors as far as styling goes. The Eldorado didn't look unique enough.

The air suspension isn't cheap to replace. I had to replace the rear suspension/air bags & air pump on my 2006 Lincoln Town Car June 2018.
Town Cars aren’t as bad as these. You can get new bags for a town car for about $100
One of fords best 90s cars. wheel choice was unfortunate. The small headlight version was the better looking of the two cars.
