Great vid, just watched it before I replaced my oil filter for the first time. For anyone wondering about torque values, for the drain plug (2012 and newer) it's 20 newton meters, which is 14.75 foot-pounds. The drain plug for 2011 and older is larger, and is 42 newton meters (30.98 foot-pounds), and it's the same (42 newton meters) for the screen and screen cover for all years, since that part hasn't changed.

I know this is an older video. But it is important to note ...the nut on the KN Filter is ONLY FOR REMOVAL. You can tweak the integrity of the canister if you try and torque it on. It should be hand tightened.
Great video. I was pretty sure it was a straight forward task, but seeing it done give me more faith I can do it. I was able to get to the battery to get it charged over the winter. If I was able to do that I think I can get this done too. :) Thanks!
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad the video was helpful. The oil change should be way easier than getting to the battery. I lucked out. My dealer installed the battery tender lead during setup.

Great straight forward tutorial on 696 oil change. Think it would benifit a new owner in gaining confidence in taking on owner maintenance versus dealer. Like the fact you took enough time to enjoy a few beerz. If you want to ever go back to ducati filters, i have all three filter huggers plus a strap.

I hate that oil drain plug... mine was a bit stripped when I bought it used, and I never should have put it back in. Now it's completely stripped and I'm going to epoxy an allen key in there to get it out and replace it with a better one. Just a warning for new owners.
Yeah. It's a bad design. I was worried I would strip it out our break the bit.
What kind of oil did you use?
Well you'll have to forgive me but I don't remember. It's been 5 years since I made this vid. It was full synthetic oil from the Ducati dealer is all i know. It was like $15 a liter. Sorry for not being more help. Thanks for watching though.

Superb video. I am changing my oil for the first time myself on my 2012 696 right now. Had the dealer do it previously. Finally got all the pieces. They told me I needed 4 quarts of oil. Did you feel you could of added another whole quart?

MrToonfish Sure. You can substitute any energy drink. I personally recommend Monster Extra Strength with Nitrous Technology. 👍
Yeah right ! It's easy on your bike, on my own Ducati, the exhaust line is just in front of the oil filter plug (horizontal internal filter), so it's mandatory to remove a part of the exhaust which could be a pain in the a** really just to access that oil filter. Anyway, we love those Monsters especially those with 2 valves per cylinder and air cooled :-)
MrToonfish wow. That does sound like a pain in the arse. Yes sir. Love those Monsters. Unfortunately I had to sell mine. Hopefully have a Multistada one of these days.
The Multistrada is an impressive bike, I have one of my colleague at work who purchased the latest MS 950 and man... this bike is so impressive and works like a jet fighter, even it's a "tall" bike, taking corners with it is pure joy, you'll love it for sure. Gerson Mtz. I can't remember what the proper torque is for these. I found it on google. i believe it was metric and I had to do the conversion.
TorqdOff 20Nm for the drain plug, 42Nm for the screen filter and filter plug.
Bringing this video back from the grave... After changing out the filter how has the K&N filter been? No more leaks? I'm having the same issue with my 2012 Monster now with oil leaking from the oil filter.

How many pounds of torque for the screws?
Well that's a good question. I couldn't find the exact torque specs for the drain plug or screen filter so I just went by feel. The mechanic at my local dealer said they never use a torque wrench either so I guess it should be fine. Just make sure it is tight enough that it doesn't come loose but definitely don't over tighten it and strip out the threads. I did find (after the fact) the metric specs but I was to lazy to do the conversion. Lol. I think it was on the Monster forum. Thanks for watching.

Good video. One thought: With synthetic oil, the viscosity should remain the same at all temperatures, so warming up the bike isn't as important as it was in "the old days" with regular oil that gets thin at high temps.
