I loved this story mode, it was so ridiculous in the best way possible. Also I love that Mileena, Baraka and Reptile are all on the good side for sure this time and even get something good in the end

Ehh Melina can definately have a change of heart considering she's Kahnum now. With the way she acted with Kitana in the story made me suspicious of her intentions throughout. Luckily Jarrod was able to help her steady her head. With Quan Chi alive he can probably corrupt Jarrod back again

I binged this game in like 7 hours. I actually really enjoy it. The story is fun and there's a perfect amount of comedy in it. The kombat isn't overdone and the rank system is great. The character roster too is AMAZING.

Can we just appreciate how far Baraka and Reptile have come storywise in the NRS era of Mortal Kombat? They went from being two dimensional minions in MK9 to getting their own story chapters and contributing significantly to the plot.

I like how Baraka is way more of a sympathetic character in the remake. He was always a character that fought for his people, but was relugated to just "go sicko mode" side fodder. Hes never been necessarily "evil".
Same with Mileena
I love how they made Baraka, Mileena and Sindel actual good guys. Hell, besides his voice, Baraka just has this really chill, 'it is what it is' personality to him. Also love how hilariously cheesy Shang Tsung and Quan Chi are, especially with their interactions with Raiden.
Yeah, I’m happy some of the characters that have just been “the bad guys” get a different take, especially since it’s a reboot and everything

I mean the ending seemed like a huge clusterfuck + rushed. Having DLC characters that aren’t out yet fight in the story. But overall I still think it’s an amazing game. Have been having a blast playing it just like everyone else

As a long time Mortal Kombat fan, this story was just fantastic. Loved the new directions they took each character and how they actually got to be fleshed out unlike other games. Everyone felt like they had valid motives for their actions and they all worked very well together. The ending felt a little rushed but it was hilarious seeing all the different combination characters and the funny names.

Fleshed out? I don't know personally I feel it leaves much to be desired. Not a MK fan so I don't know how the story compare to old games but we never really go much deeper with the majority of the cast. The main quartet is only there for like 1/3rd of the story, the royal drama was never resolved, Jerrod just show up and Sindel dies, thats it. It felt more like a continuation to MK11 than a reboot. Timeline bullshit is to high of a stake for a first entry in a reboot. Also most of the characters are just there not really doing anything to the story and could've been replaced with a random person and the story wouldn't have change, like Rain, Havik, Nitara, Reiko, etc. Reiko is just fine though, same for Li Mei and Tanya and only those 3.
@@octopassi2528in the previous title, the story had a real habit of introducing new characters in the story, only to throw them to side like fodder for the rest. Characters like baraka and Reptile(Syzoth) were always the series' punching bags, but now they had motives and backstories whereas they previously didn't have good ones.

I love that characters from the 3D era has gotten a chance to come back into the spotlight in the franchise. The hard reboot of the timeline also feels really refreshing and I hope liu kang ends up having a lot of character growth as he has to go through some of the struggles as raiden had to in order to protect earthrealm. Biggest wish though is for him to mess up and armagedon happening so I can see the carnage and maybe have the smash bros ultimate of the mortal kombat franchise.

It’s technically not a hard reboot. The story says the other timelines still exist. So it’s no more or less a reboot than in comics.

@@ferretyluv I guess. Just mean it in the sense that the story doesn't go back to all the characters that have been prominently featured in the mortal kombat series since MK9. Old characters getting the spotlight and the storyline of Raidens continues oopsie woopsies being scraped for Liu kang to fill Raidens shoes.

The story for this game is amazing. They really went deep into characters that didn't have a lot of plot going on, and rewrote established characters to be something fresh and clean.
The ending actually had me so hype and all the references to the other games were awesome

I beat the game in like 7 hours in one sitting, amazing gameplay and the story is a massive improvement from mk11 in my opinion

Loved Mk11 and its story, but figures this one would be able to win over vocal naysayers of that one over more, especially with more balance to gameplay speed freaks missed from mk9/x days

loved it, been to my brothers place last couple days just playing Versus and the story. Had a few mates around today at his and we all finished the story, was the most fun I had playing games in a while! Doin an in home tournament loser passes and takes a swig, if you have friends and or family that like this kind of game even a little then I highly recommend getting it just to vs each other is a great experience. The maps were straight fire too and if you don't have anyone that likes these kinds of games then the story mode is still absolutely goated!

Haha, I was hired to promote this game over on TikTok and started watching videos for ideas. The story is just looney tunes, but in a good/fun way.
I finished the story the first night I got it, the invasions mode is actually significantly more fun. So far trying to get through the whole tutorial is significantly harder than the rest of the game.
MK1 was just a breath of fresh air the series felt like it was degrading in quality each game. I loved this entry in the series

The "Kombo's" in this game are going to be so smooth, and GREAT to hit, its going to be an absolutely amazing feeling and experience hitting them and playing this game in general, Cant wait for a good get together game aswell, Friends doing friendly tournaments and etc. Great game, Great timing!
They are smooth. It's a huge improvement over 11. The speed and feel sits somewhere between 9 and X, but it's better than both of them. Plus the kameos are fun to experiment with since they can dramatically change your combo potential.

From what little I've seen of this game so far, it seems like a really good distillation of the best concepts that Mortal Kombat's brought in over the course of its lifespan. I like it.
Im so glad the Mortal Kombat fandom, of all things, appreciates and wanted the happy ending we got with MK1

So Ashrah was originally from Mortal Kombat Deception. I love the easter egg with her hat, where she's talking about how impractical it is. Her original MK: Deception outfit had a hat just like it, only white to fit the rest of her colour scheme.
The key to finding combos on your own is to mix the combos listed.
Gonna be honest, hate the character designs of this game. I grew to like the over the top and unique looks that every character had, and grew up with the ps2 mortal kombat game where liu kang was a fucking zombie. This just isnt the same

Def gonna get MK1 eventually. My first experience playing MK was a pirate of MK9 and I loved the story. Just recently completed MK11 and got really excited for the timeline reset and how it'll pan out

Mortal Kombat is one of the few series, where a total rework of the story is a major part of the overall lore of the MK universe, since its happend a few times by now. MK did what Marvel wished they could do, with their multiverse story.

I finished the story in one day, and I loved the story. But I’m not gonna lie, the ending/armageddon was so confusing

While I enjoyed most of the story and the idea of the final fight allowing you to choose any player, it felt like the story buckled under the weight of the multiverse problem where it’s harder to care when the the stakes are infinite and incomprehensible,
That and the fact the story ended with an abrupt wrap up, sequel baiting, and some weirdly unaddressed plot points put a hindrance on what was largely a strong MK story that even gave depth to some neglected characters like Reptile.
The Invasion mode has been pretty fun so far though! Curious to see how that develops.
Overall, a solid entry.
Also, weird story glossing over moments like Raiden beating three of his 7 kombatants off screen just because. I get those were Kameo characters, but it felt cheap
The second they stepped into omnipotent god, “the one who possesses the hourglass” it was done for tbh. Also, the way it reboots every character sort of takes away from what made them so uniquely great. It’s no doubt cool to see the new iteration of the verse. But it also kinda takes a dump on how sensible the verse was as you said.
But, this was the only way to “restart” the hype for the series tbh. It was essentially call of duty terms, where they hit the wall. And it’s either continue re-hashing the same shit or give it new life.

Prior to that though, I really dug some of the new character stuff they were doing. While some characters barely changed like Johnny, they gave a lot of notable side characters like Baraka, Reptile, Maleena, and a bunch of the returning forgotten characters more development outside of their more straight forward mainline counterparts. It’s just a shame they stopped doing that once the twist with real villain took over the story.

Extremely hard to do something unique for every character in that last act.
Could have made the intros for the fights much better, I guess, they feel like presets. Everything else about it kept up with the quality.

This game is kickass for the most part! Just kinda miss from mk11 when you could customize your fighter intro, and just create more of a build for each fighter 🤷♂️
Yeah, but it also kind of made everybody an all rounder. Atleast here we have more archetypes and some we've never seen before in a nrs game.
Intro and outro animations were so damn cool in mk11. Kinda sucks that they're pretty bad in this game. But on the bright side the gameplay is so so so so much better than 11

I always find it kinda scummy when games have it so you have to pay for characters that are already in the game like Quan Chi and ermac being DLC characters even though they are very clearly already in the game and have their mechanics all there already, like what are you paying for at that point if it's all already there? Game looks pretty good otherwise but I just hate that practice in general
