      That's a nice yak. Congrats! Down the road I might go with one myself. The easy reverse would be a big deal to me as well.

    I chose the Hobie Pro 14. I know that it is a bit more pricey but you get what you pay for. The reputation is strong, the support is strong, the performance is strong, the safety is strong. The mirage drive is a beast with the turbo fins. I was actually traveling upstream in a fast flowing river last week! To each his own, but after looking at both options I am happy with my purchase. However, I am not hating on anyone who chooses the Titan. Do your own comparisons if you are in a shop that has both.

    Great choice man! I love my Titan but you are right. The size may be a deterrent for some but man is this boat stable and moves pretty well for its size. I'm truck bedding mine with a T-Bone bed extender at the moment. It's getting easier but once you get on the water with it, you forget all about that stuff :)

      @lojofishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah man, very true. I'm already very happy with it. only had it out on the water a couple of times. stability is amazing....just gotta get used to pedaling and fishing at the same time lol

    I was hoping you would choose the Hobie. There is nothing like a Hobie. It took me buying and using 5 different kayaks before I bought my first one. I love mine and will probably never buy another. They have been making pedal drives for so long and have it down to an art, so everything is thought out thoroughly and is practical. The reason you were having a hard time putting the mirage drive in reverse is because you were taking your feet out of the pedals. If you keep your feet on the pedals when you pull the cords and they simply change directions-no problem. I tested the Titan at a Demo day and found it to be slow and too heavy for me. It's my opinion that it is not a kayak, but a boat and that it needs a motor. I can pedal and troll mine all day without getting tired and I'm in my late 50's. I do hope that the Titan fulfills your needs and put you on a bunch of fish. We all have one common goal and that is to catch fish and I'm sure you will. I enjoyed your video.

      yeah the hobie was an amazing boat..no doubt about that. the reverse issue really rubbed me the wrong way. but besides that it was a great test drive.

    • @phoztech
      @phoztech 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have a hobie with the 180 drive(pa14). the salesman did a disservice to him by not explaining that he has to line up the two foot pedals straight up and down then pull the reverse/forward cord. i have paracord going from the drive pull tabs with clips that can clip onto the seat and i just pull those without even leaning over. so while not "instant" there is not much delay. i dont have to take feet off drive... just use one hand and pull.

    • @laser7715

    I'm a Predator fan. I'm 6'4 200 LB being very tall.. stability and being able to fish standing means a lot to me too. You don't want to feel like you are going to fall in when its a little windy or when you set a hook. You made a good choice.

    In your Hobie test footage it looks like you didn't have the mirage drive locked in place. Could have added to the difficulty of getting it in reverse easily.

    • @lojofishing
      @lojofishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @GoneWalkabout

      Yep, it's not locked in. Without being locked in, changing directions will be difficult. Mine is easy to operate.

    • @SuperBoyd
      @SuperBoyd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that too because the Mirage Drive was on an angle. Only one side was locked in. Plus he the seller should have told you to line up the pedals and then pull in in reverse. You don't even have to pull your feet off...I test drove one this past weekend and the seller made sure I understood how to change it up. I was in a pool inside the building and As I was coming up in the wall i LIned my feet up pulled cord and instantly I was in reverse. But I'm glad you did these videos :) I dont even have that much money but when I do save up enough I'm going with outback.

    Here checking things out. I'm retiring soon after 34 years as an electrician (union if that matters) and going to slay fish for the rest of my days upright. It's a tuff call between the Hobie 14 pro and the Titan. I just noticed the Hobie Lynx, does this fit anywhere within this category?

    Congrats on your new boat! I went with the hobie after test driving both, but it was close! The only thing that made me go hobie is how easy it is to cover water with the mirage drive, propel felt a bit slow and awkward motion. I fish a lot of lakes and pedal an hour + to get to some spots. That being said, the titan was super super stable and is a great kayak. Always happy for someone investing in the sport and can't wait to see some videos!

    • @lojofishing

    Awesome video. I'm a Hobie guy and a Jackson big rig guy . Standing at 6'1" 340 pounds I definitely feel your pain in needing a stable platform. The 2017 pro angler 14 was the way I went but I'm sure you're gonna love the titan. Give Dave Allen from Boonedox USA a call about the landing gear I don't believe they are on that big of a back order right now. For big kayaks the landing gear is a god send my friend. Tight lines bro.

    For Hobies you need to line up the pedals to pull the cord for reverse. It looked like you had the pedals apart which makes it a lot tougher to pull. Congrats on your choice man, looks like a great kayak. I have not got to test that one out yet.

    one of the cons about the hobie pa12 is that it refuse to turn when moving from a dead stop, which means you have to get it up to speeds of 2mph+ for it to want to turn. The same goes for reversing also.. it tends to only want to reverse on a straight line unless you really get it moving(but just like driving a car, we don'tneed to reverse at higher speeds). however, it does turn very sharp once you get it up to speed. don't know how the titan compares with turning from a dead stop.

    • @lojofishing
      @lojofishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah that's one of the many reasons why I chose the titan

    Damn! Congrats brother and welcome to the Native Tribe. I've heard the BooneDox landing gear is a most if you don't have a trailer to just back it into the water. Primarily to prevent damage to rudder and ease of transport.

    • @lojofishing

    Not sure exactly where you are and I wish I had seen this previously, but Pensacola Kayak & Sail has the Pescador Pilot and Brian is awesone over there. He will let you try it before you buy it. I am guessing you would probably still be happier with the Titan because the stability of the Pilot is similar to the Slayer. I am in Navarre, FL and am still trying to decide whether to go with the Slayer, the Pilot, or the Radar. Thanks for the video and congrats on the new kayak! Looking forward to seeing some fishing videos from it!!

    Great video, glad you went with the Titan. The reverse alone is worth it. I have two Slayer 10s I travel all over TX with. One suggestion is an upgraded rudder made by BoonDocks. You will quickly out turn that PA 12.

    Enjoy....agree about the Hobie. Surprised that being the first manufacturer with the only pedal drive has not progressed with their pedal ability. Your not kidding about storage and room on that Titan! HUGE... Ive heard people replacing the rudders on the Natives with a longer metal construction rudder for better turning/tracking ability. Happy Fishing brother! For the price, Im going to try out the Pescador. It probably wouldnt have been a good fit for you being your size.
    Now let the modifications begin!

    I've had my slayer13 since it came out, the reverse is just hands down the biggest plus. I do a lot of river and ocean fishing, doesn't weigh much getting it to river through steep banks etc, the reverse in current and so on are my pluses..I have been wanting the Titan but after thinking of the terrain I have to go through in order to launch it just seems to heavy..great choice by the way no better drive system in my opinion, salt water or banging into things it is just as flawless as the day it was new (2014 if I recall). For fun you can even 3D print your own propellers and mess with pitch..several people in the woodlands have them for working out on lake woodlands and I've punched out a few that will work your legs to the bone...

    Bought my Native Titan last Friday (waiting for the Boondocks Running Gear from ACK to be delivered). Had to settle on the 10.5, as being in my 70's, it's getting harder now to pick up much over 150 pounds! (And, I got rid of my sit-in kayak, too! Don't laugh...! When you're my age, have a torn ACl and bad back, it's HARD to get out of a sit-in "Yak"!) Haha!

    Well I think one thing you overlooked and therefore made the wrong decision was that the Hobie kayak can go in shallower water and over logs in the rivers because the flappers hug the bottom of the kayak when needed. You push one leg forward and one back and they fold up. So with the kind you bought is basically like a boat, it sticks down into the water and doesn't move out of the way when needed. And you take a chance on breaking the propeller blades and if traveling fast and all of a sudden hit a log the pressure from the sudden stop could do damage to the kayak or the drive system. Great video though

    You should of tested the pa14 if you wanted space and stability. Not the 12. The deciding factor for you was easy reverse. For me it was torque. Mirage Drive has way more torque than a propeller. Look up the tug of war. I fish heavy current a couple miles in the oceans and bay. That was important to me for my safety incase I had to go against current and wind.

No need to remove feet, pedals vertical, Pull cord, 1/2 second when you get it. PoK. No big deal, no way to lose between those two! Congrats!!

    The Hobie drive should not swing left and right like that. You probably didn't set it correctly. But glad you got a second chance to settle with a PA 14.

      +bceagle83 I filmed an update about how my kayak is broken, I'm working on fixing it

  • @JaronBrooks02
    @JaronBrooks02 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    it's not as hard as you made it into... not to be rude.. but you didn't have the mirage drive in the notches right so it was wobbling. second of all you just push the pedals parallel and pull and that's it. third of all the hobie has more adjustability. fourth, the hobie can go really shallow and pedal in inches of water. fifth, the hobie is much more efficient and easier to work on while being more advanced. sixth, the hobie is super high quality and worth every dime. you know hobie is a great company and makes the best of the best because they have won the kayak award every year and all the companies have copied them. i still likes the video and am subscribing... come to alabama and fish sometime

    • @lojofishing

    Want to see a review of the titan offshore through breaking surf and in large waves....then it can be compared to the hobie. None of these offshoot boats have been PROVEN offshore and in SoCal, that’s what matters. Please take your boat to the beach so we can see how it handles breakers

      Man, I called around here in Augusta, and the local Native dealer doesn't have one, and is not going to carry Native in future, so won't even order one for me. I may just get the Perception Pescador Pilot PDL. It doesn't have the integrated Cart trolley, or dual power poles, but it is near half the cost, and I could get it tomorrow. So I may just go that route, and if I want the Native later sell one of mine. This is basically one for the wife, that I will get to use when she isn't so I better get one while she still wants one if you know what I mean. Cheers man.

    "Hard to pull that cord and get the flippers to ya know, flip", c'mon man!
    You're fine having to pull a trailer, not going shallow with the drive down, noisier drive, and that sweet bicycle motion putting your knees up into your chest all because you don't want to pull a cord.
    Also, you can leave your feet on the pedals since you need to line them up anyway. I am curious what the Titan resale value will be. It's an expensive boat so I hope it holds up like the Hobie.

    • @lojofishing
      @lojofishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just being honest about the experience I had. If you watched the video, I gave lots of praise to Hobie and really had nothing but good things to say about it, except it didn't have instant hands free reverse, which isn't my opinion, it's a fact. I chose the titan due to it's superior stability when on the water. Hobie's pedal drive is better overall, but the titan's stability blows the hobie away. To each his own.
