How gardens in Kiribati are keeping families nourished

  • The Pacific Island of Nonouti in Kiribati may look like paradise, but its remoteness makes it difficult to purchase even basic supplies and opportunities to make a living here are limited.
    Increased drought periods and higher temperatures have made it even harder to grow the islands main crops. Limited access to clean running water and adequate food supplies have forced many islanders to leave and move to the main island.
    The Kiribati Outer Island Food and Water Programme (KOIFW) supported by IFAD with funding from the Government of Korea has been helping some of the two and half thousand people who live on the outer islands to get access to reliable safe drinking water and giving them tools and seeds to help them have a more varied diet.
