There and Back Again

  • This is almost a fully orchestrated pencil sketch. Lol. Anyway, I have been playing the part before the quick middle section on the piano for a while. I really like the harmonies. Back in the winter I tried to make it into a song by adding a melody and a bass line. It was awful and I gave up. So I then made it into a longish piano work with several tempo and key changes. Better but… Anyway, I decided to record that piano piece but using synth sounds.
Quick note about title and video. “There and Back Again” was the working title and referred to “The Hobbit”. I was planning on changing it, but nothing better came up. As I was looking for photos to use, I came across the Moon photo that I took last May when testing a new lens. So there and back now seems to mean a trip the Moon. lol. I am surprised at how deep I could zoom into the photo and keep detail!
Sounds are a mix of Sequential Prophet Rev 2 and Synclavier Regen. Most parts are the two instruments “midied” together, with Rev 2 the primary. Most parts are doubled. The middle section is mostly Regen. I played everything except the middle section by hand, as you may be able to tell. The middle section was sequenced, except the deep bass (also only Rev 2 line in that section). I did keep a piano like sound (mostly Rev 2) to refer to the roots as a piano work.
I hope you enjoy this little journey!

Very pleasant to listen to. The tones of regret? disappointment? as you pulled away from Lady Luna work well.

Yeah, the ending turned out much darker when I changed from piano to synth, so maybe something with a darker title. Thanks!
