  • Built a fairly quick DIY bike rack to mount inside my Xterra. The Xterra has a t-slot track built into the floor, but the basic structure should work with other SUVs, trucks, or hatchback cars as long as it's mounted securely.
    Tools used:
    -Cordless drill
    -Countersink bit
-Angle grinder with cut off wheel and flap disc
    Parts used:
Sunlite QR Bike Block Fork Mount

Great idea, I was thinking of doing the same thing but I couldn't decide on the best way to lock into the seat rails, your solution looks good as long as the thumbscrews don't vibrate loose?

The knobs are large enough to make it really tight, I'm not worried about them loosening up enough during normal driving, and it gets removed most for the time. You could easily add some lock nuts for peace of mind though

Any chance you feel like making another one of these for a second generation Xterra? Asking for a friend...

Very nice, I need to do this. Will 29er fit like that?

It should, one of ours is 29" and fits just fine. The mountain bike handles being wide make it somewhat snug, and one of our bikes is slightly shorter which helps them fit also

@@DFRWorkshop Thanks for the reply. I ordered the fork clamp and should have all assembled by next weekend.

Good idea, can I replicate in crv?

I'm not sure. The xterra has tie-down rails on the floor in the back that I took advantage of. If your vehicle has something similar then you can maybe do something similar with some modification.
