  • How to build a bike mount for the inside of a van, suv, truck or any other vehicle.
In this video, I am building a set of quick release and thru axle mounts for our family's mountain bikes and placing them in our Honda Odyssey.
I don't like to travel with the bikes being exposed to the elements and thieves. Plus our vehicle doesn't have a trailer hitch.
So this is the option that I came up with to solve our family's problem.

Hey, this is a great idea. I was always concerned about putting the thru axle into a metal pipe fitting. The pvc pipe insert solves that. Thanks very much for making this video!

You’re welcome! I didn’t like it being metal on metal either.

    Both mounts are awesome!

Theres also a rubber paint that you could apply to prevent scratches.

The isuzu mux has a small bay at the back that you could drop the board into.

I think can skip the hose clamps if use marine grade heat shrink. It is lined with an adhesive. I'm definitely gonna give it a go thanks Bro you saved me a bunch of cash.🤘

End Mount came out Sweet! Not how I originally thought. I didn't have heat shrink large enough to go over the whole tee.
I ended up putting Heat Shrink over the PVC pipe and twisting it in to the tee from one side. It took a bit to do this. After getting the covered PVC to the threads on the other side of the tee it got very difficult to turn. I used a pair of slip joint pliers to finish twisting until both sides were even. I checked it with a tape measure as I went. Using the slip joint pliers chewed up the heat shrink. So I trimmed it back to the tee with a utility knife. The PVC isn't going anywhere.
I was worried toward the end I might get the PVC stuck and that made me think of other ways to tackle the issue thought about filling the Tee with Hot Glue, silicone caulk or gorilla glue. I didn't need to though. Very happy with the results.
Also I found using Galvanized Components worked out a couple bucks cheaper at Home Depot.
I didn't have to buy any PVC my bike came with a PVC fork spacer so I used that.
I really like this solution it seems like a way better option than buying a manufactured mount and so much more versatile. 😎 🤘

How about just using some liquid nails to hold the pvc to the metal? Also, I think I met you at Meyer Broadway over the weekend - I was asking you about you shirt! Rock on, brother!

      That was me!
Great idea about the liquid nails.

Wow, great idea! Is there no need to fasten the board to the car in some way, to prevent the bike from moving around?

Nope, I’ve found that just the weight of the bike is good enough.

Where do you buy the shrink tube that big? Home Depot didn’t have heat shrink that large.

It was either a Lowe’s or Menards (which is local to northern Indiana)

Why not just buy the ones online. Those flanges are pricey? Plus all the other stuff?

Considering I would still need to buy a board to attach a mount off the internet, buying the parts was much cheaper. The wood was the most expensive item.
For the QR mounts, I could not find a 110mm version online (the kid bikes have boost hubs) so this was my solution.

You can put end caps on the PVC, instead of the clamp. Then put a hole in each end cap to run the rod through. ie: th-cam.com/video/DJcd8ELTt_4/w-d-xo.html Oh! Where are you getting the rod to attach the bikes?

    • @MichianaMadman

For the quick releases, I bought the rod at a hardware store.
For the thru axles, I am using the bike’s maxles.
