What's wrong with the original version? Also, I don't get the whole conflict between Charlotte's dad and the Shadow Man. Did I miss something? It just didn't feel like it was explored enough.
@@kdusel1991 Disney confirmed that Tiana being a frog was inspired by the The Frog Princess (novel) by E. D. Baker, where the princess does become a frog. The problem is it's a series of books, compared to one film. So changes had to be made.
Amazing props to all the VA's! There were a few moments where I thought it was actual audio from the movie! And Malcolm does a killer Keith David impression!
I like the original fine but this version was an improvement. You smoothed out the flaws very nicely and delivered something new yet similar in spirit.
I really think it would have been cool if the shadowman and the swamplady interacted. They could have shown some amount of mutual respect to each other an an allmost friendly rivalry, since they are two sides of the same magic.
Pro: more backstory & interaction between Shadow Man and Mama Odie. Con: Sugar Baron is one of the bad guys Certain things I liked more, certain things I didn't, and PATF is one of my favorites from Disney
Tell me about it. This is pretty much the only thing I watch from channel awesome. His reviews I would’ve lost out there and needlessly clownish and suicidal. So the movie is not as good as people remember it. Does Doug really have to threaten to kill himself?
@@JA9339 A controversial topic here, but I think that these are the live action remakes we SHOULD have been getting. A black little mermaid that turned into a siren would have been better than just doing Ariel with multiple races.
Princess and the Frog is based on “The Frog Princess” by E.D Baker as it even says so in the credits. In that book, the princess also turns into a frog, so technically, it was pretty close to the story.
@@singingsiren82 yes the book is based off the original fairy tale. But it is even said in the credits of the movie that it’s based on “the frog princess”
So what I really like about this re-imaging is that everyone including the side characters have a much more active role in the film. Wouldn’t mind seeing the fanscription treatment make it’s way to something like the live action Disney films. Or even the what if live actions like Atlantis the lost empire. Side note-“the right way with the right people”. Is a great line :)
Personally this sounds like Princess and the Frog meets Beauty and the Beast but honestly, I didn't mind. The idea of Prince Naveen being stabbed and dying actually made me audibly gasp and I like the idea of them having a relationship as human and frog before Naveen turns human again. But I don't know if I like the idea of Big Daddy being in cahoots with the Shadow Man...
An alternate idea I have is Tiana is a private eye running her own business and ends up in a battle of wits with Doctor Facilier (think like Holmes and Moriarty one attempting to out think the other) and the other big difference is it would be a noir musical!
Thank you for the FanScription, I need to address it: The number one reason as to why this film didn't do as well to revive the Disney 2D Renaissance is soley because of how the studio handled both Tiana and Facilier as characters. The plot has a brilliant setup where it took place during the 1920s, a time period where the jazz age comes at it's peak, but also has a commentary on African-American working families being treated like second class citizens after the Civil War ended. So to have Tiana open her own restaurant and Facilier wanting to get respect as the greatest Voodoo Witch Doctor opens a parallel dynamic in the perspective between the Protagonist and Antagonist.
Probably the one positive of Tiana as a Frog is that it forced her away from her work and made her realize there was more to life than monetary riches. Balance and smart working seemed the overall theme of the movie as it showed all hard work didn't always mean big profit, like the neighborhood Tiana lived in and her father working himself to death. Still, I enjoyed this Fanscription Take. It did balance showing working too hard and too easy have consequences thus balancing both resulting in more satisfactory results.
I'm so mad this isn't how the story actually goes. I would have loved to see Big Daddy more in the story, and it would make sense for a Sugar Baron and the Shadowman to be workin' together. And it goes into the racism that Disney ignores.
My ideas for fan scription‘s: What if we fixed Captain Marvel? What if Star Wars had another trilogy? What if Steven Spielberg directed Jurassic World? What if wreak it Ralph was a trilogy? What if the super Mario bros movie was longer? Any of these I would be excited to see
I can definitely appreciate Tiana being an actual black princess without having to be a frog for 89% of her own movie… This version would probably get the same reception as the original, but I like how the characters are better handled here!
this plot of what if Tiana wasn't a frog would make a good live action remake and hey it would better then the trash ones except for the jungle book 2016 that was awesome
Really loving your fanscriptions. For a future one could you do either: What if James Cameron’s Spider-Man movie happened? What if Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 happened? What if George Miller’s Justice League Mortal happened? Or What if George Lucas’s Star Wars sequel trilogy happened? I’m not asking you to do all these fansciptions, I just hope you can do at least one of them. Keep up the good work. 👍
This was amazing! The drama, the mystery, and all around story was perfect. Having the Baron and Shadow man have the dark past was creative and made the story so much better. Also, having Ray as a spirit animal was clever. All around great story!
I do like the various changes (Lawrence has Charlotte 😂) & additions to the story like the golden ball is a reference to the ball that the princess had in the original story that the frog retrieved for her & that Ray (my favorite character) was a light spirit so he didn’t have to die, but here is an idea of if they did kiss what if instead she was given the ability to talk to animals that way she could understand them in the movie
I think I understand why the writers turned Tiana into a frog. It would have been weird for a human girl to fall in love with a frog, no matter how much they get along. But it makes sense for two frogs to fall in love. I do think the writers could have written around that issue to still keep Tiana human, but I guess they found no good solutions, which is why we got what we got. I still love the movie, and I also love your rewrite!
Aside from the typical “Beauty and the Beast” ending to this, this is a pretty good and dark rewrite! I wonder what other Disney projects you’re gonna tackle next? How about this: *What if Rourke was NOT the main villain in Atlantis: The Lost Empire?*
Bonus points if Gamera shows up. (Sorry, after watching the Heisei trilogy, I'm morally obligated to mention him whenever Atlantis is in the conversation)
This is a complete upgrade. I love the idea that Tiana and Nav have a buisness relationship at first, that grows threw doing things they like rather than out of necisity and bickering. I think they would have sold more toys to! with Tianas Animal Resturant, it would have been so cute!! I think the only thing i would have changed would have been Naviene dying the coming back. Its not bad, just done alot. OOh! maybe instead find a way to make Shadow man accidentally curse himself imto being a frog, and Navine turns himself into shadow man! Then he tells Lorance (as shadow man) that he was fired, and that the plan no longer could work. Lorence takes shadowman (as a frog, who cant talk) and is so angry as he walks away, he says “Well, at least frog legs came from thsi dredfull state of afairs!” (Shadowman gulps). I think that would be funnier and pretty smart of Navines part, or maybe Tiana did the disguseing instead! either works, (Though Navine beung shadow man would be good revengd for him turning him into a frog in the first place) 🐸
Here are some suggestions: What If Roxanne was in An Extremely Goofy Movie? What If Tom and Jerry didn't speak in Tom and Jerry: The Movie? What If Bryan Cranston didn't die in Godzilla (2014)? What If Newt and Hicks didn't die right away in Alien 3? What If Richard Pryor wasn't in Superman III and Brainiac was the main villain? What If The Guardians of the Galaxy had a bigger role in Thor: Love and Thunder and didn't change anything that would interfere with the continuity of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Vol. 3? What If Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady and Casey Jones were in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze? What If Blade: Trinity was better? What If K wasn't in Men in Black II?
One thing I really love about fanscription is that they don't take ages to get into a video. "What if Tiana didn't get turned into a frog?" at 7 seconds into this video. Short and simple but still an attention grabber.
I love the Disney rewrites you guys at Channel Awesome come up with and this is fantastic! But I’d love to see what you guys can do with a “What If Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max” actually happened story.
Guys I'm from Louisiana and for as great it is to see Cajun and Creole culture, spending most of the movie in a swamp sucked I have actually WORKED in swamps, not fun
If Disney were to make a live action remake of this movie, I would like it to have a similar format to this video, though who am I kidding Disney’s probably never gonna do that
2:45 I Love this part. The way you connect these two powerful voodoo people and have them have a conversations, was something the film failed to accomplish.
Honestly, fans tend to make better content of their favorite things than the actual creators. I suppose it's because fans put a lot of time, love, and effort into the projects they take on. 😁
It's because fans see things in retrospect. No audience member knew, until the movie's release, that Naveen's manservant would be part of Facilier's plan, Tiana would be obsessed with building her business on her own terms, or that Ray would be squashed like a literal bug.
It depends, I've seen rewrites which were dreadful and cringey and ones that were amazing. And Disney has got some films you'd only charge very minor things if anyone like their animated Beauty and the Beast.
Better than the Twisted Tale Book, I can say that right now. Very well done. :) (On the other hand, can we just get a proper drawing of the scenes that weren't drawn? Like this edit right here: 15:16 I would've loved to have seen how these spirits drag down the sugar baron, they'd need at least an extra 4 hands.)
What I wanna know is what happened to Lawrence after tripping up Dr. Facilier? Was he still arrested? Pardoned for his crimes by Naveen for helping to stop the Shadow Man? Escaped from New Orleans and began a new life elsewhere?
I'm gonna go with, different. While there's nothing wrong with your story, you did use a lot of classic tropes. If I remember correctly this was one of the first Disney films that was trying to subvert their classic formula that people were starting to call dated. One detail I would call you on specifically is making the Sugar Barron racist. In the original he eats at where Tiana works because he loves her food. He's more concerned with results than race. He even respects her make-it-herself attitude and is willing to help via her method. Hiring her to cater his party instead of just giving her money.

Awww nooo don't make Big Daddy a villain! He's such a sweet guy in the movie! There's even a tie in colouring book with a picture of him walking Tiana down the aisle on her wedding day!
YES! More of these, please! I really enjoyed it. I liked the different direction the story went for the most part. I didn't like Eli as a villain. I can't see him as villain-ish and he was kind of a surprise villain. Maybe if there was more time dedicated to creating tension between him and Charlotte. But I understand this video type doesn't allow for every detail.
interesting twist although I’m not sure I can get behind the idea of a character voiced by John Goodman in a Disney film being a villain that being said I wonder what Musker and Clements would think of this
This is great! For the next one could you do a Fanscription of Christopher Reeves' Superman and Michael Keaton's Batman? You could call it: "Batman and Superman: World's finest".
As a matter of fact, he did. If you haven’t seen Doug’s review of this movie, I would recommend that you do. One reason is because Malcolm not only dresses as Dr. Facilier, but also gets to put in his two cents on the movie’s depiction of Creole culture, given that he comes from a Creole background.
I definitely found this entertaining, but I still enjoy the original movie for what it is. There are two things I didn't really enjoy from this FanScription though. 1) I was not a fan of making the Sugar Baron/Big Daddy a villain. I liked the portrayal of the character in the original movie. A wealthy white southerner in 1920s segregated New Orleans, who was not arrogant or cruel to those beneath him. Rare like a unicorn perhaps, but not non-existent. It also made it understandable how Lottie, being rich and spoiled as she is, would be friends with Tiana. Instead, he could've worked as a reluctant villain. Perhaps, Dr. Facilier/the Shadow Man would blackmail him into working for him much like how it was implied at the beginning of this Fanscription. He would redeem himself near the end and sacrifice himself to save Tiana, Naveen and Lottie. Having him be a secondary villain didn't work for me personally. 2) The ending is pretty much a rehash/rip-off of "Beauty and the Beast." Naveen, much like Beast/Adam, dies as Tiana confesses her love for him, much like Belle. Not only does this act revive him, but makes him human again. With the way this Fanscription was written, it seemed that this ending seemed to be the only way for the story to be wrapped up. That's why I prefer how the original movie went. Naveen and Tiana were content to spend the rest of their lives as frogs as long as they had each other. When Madam Odie marries them, it officially made Tiana a princess and the curse is broken when they kiss. But that's just me. All in all, this was definitely a good reimagining of the flick. In another universe, this probably would've been how the story was told.
Odds are if the plot didn't have her turn into a frog, the movie doesn't get made. This was one of several animated films that took a black protagonist and turned them into something non-human so they could market it to racist audiences. Spies in Disguise and Soul are other examples of this. Pretty gross corporate decision making.
I really enjoyed this! I love the original film, but this was way more interesting than the original! As everyone said, making the Sugar Baron evil didn't bode well. I like the fact that he was so supportive of Charlotte and he even loved Tiana's food. I think it would've been best to just keep the Shadow Man as the main antagonist. Other than that, I love this so much!
I’m sorry I like the princess and the frog the way it is with princess Tiana Turing into a frog it nice twist on the story and subverts the expectations and does something new frog prince other than a bratty princess Grows attachment to a frog and she kiss the frog
As much as I like this concept, I feel like the barons character wasn’t executed in a favorable way. I understand his role to emphasize the racism of the time and especially in the south, but I much preferred his personality in the original film, where he was just as supportive of tiana and her family as charlotte was.
It would have been Super easy, barely an inconvenience to make the Baron (rich white guy in 1920's New Orleans who most likely inherited his wealth) bad in the original movie, so I was surprised they didn't.
I got an idea for a new Fanscription. What if the movie "Land of the Lost" from 2009 was more like the 1970s show it's based on? I've never seen the show, but I do intend to and I can see what fans were frustrated with it. For the Fanscription, can have Holly and Will still Rick Marshall's kids, have Enik still be an ally, and The Zarn as the villain.
"Do you think I want to spend the rest of my life pretending to be married to Lawrence." 😂 Nice work. This story is really cool without the hill-billys being randomly thrown in.
I hope people know this movie is based off a book which was a parody of the Frog Prince story. So if she doesn't turn into a frog we have a different movie on our hands.
I like this tape, but I think we need more explanation on why big daddy is even working for the shadow man. He doesn’t necessarily need to be evil or is he just greedy?
I like the re-write but I dont like that Charlotte's father was made into a villain. He and his daughter never came off as mean or vindictive so it's not really enjoyable seeing the characterization change so much.

I agree! Not that the original is bad or anything, but this would've been a much more interesting change than what we got!
Princess and the Frog deserves more love
The Cajun and Creole culture were fun to see on the big screen as a kid
Plus, guys, the FOOD, soooo great!
Con: Sugar Baron is one of the bad guys
Certain things I liked more, certain things I didn't, and PATF is one of my favorites from Disney
I can see the Sugar Baron being a bad guy, but I do love that even though he’s rich, he’s not a stuck up villain.
God ive missed fan scription
Same! It’s the only place I can get a kinda elseworld Disney movies
What are you guys talking about? The last one was on little mermaid if she was a siren?
Haven’t we all
Tell me about it.
That book is based off a Frog Prince where the princess doesn't turn into a frog. I was thinking it was based off the original Grimm tale.
@@singingsiren82 yes the book is based off the original fairy tale. But it is even said in the credits of the movie that it’s based on “the frog princess”
I think it's based on both stories.
Can't it be both? Also, then what story was Naveen referring to?
@@monsterhanna6691 it can be both! I was just saying where the princess turning into the frog plot line came from
I'm surprised she wasn't thrown into a gumbo when she was a frog. They eat Frog in Louisiana like they eat doughnuts in Wisconsin
There's actually a frog catching scene in the movie, where they triumph over their would-have-been human eaters.
I hope it doesn't have a depressing ending like the Ariel episode. That was just.... Woof.
Deadass my jaw dropped at Big Daddy's reveal, this series is so good!
That would have been more interesting than this diet version of Beauty and the Beast which we have here.
@@MovieFan1912 Thank you.
Thank you for the FanScription, I need to address it:
The number one reason as to why this film didn't do as well to revive the Disney 2D Renaissance is soley because of how the studio handled both Tiana and Facilier as characters.
17:50 "do you think I ruined it"
You definitely make it more spicy with your commentary
Probably the one positive of Tiana as a Frog is that it forced her away from her work and made her realize there was more to life than monetary riches. Balance and smart working seemed the overall theme of the movie as it showed all hard work didn't always mean big profit, like the neighborhood Tiana lived in and her father working himself to death.
Still, I enjoyed this Fanscription Take. It did balance showing working too hard and too easy have consequences thus balancing both resulting in more satisfactory results.
Doug. You seriously need to do more videos like this. These ideas are very creative and they help our imaginations grow.
I'm so mad this isn't how the story actually goes. I would have loved to see Big Daddy more in the story, and it would make sense for a Sugar Baron and the Shadowman to be workin' together. And it goes into the racism that Disney ignores.
My ideas for fan scription‘s:
What if we fixed Captain Marvel?
What if Star Wars had another trilogy?
What if Steven Spielberg directed Jurassic World?
What if wreak it Ralph was a trilogy?
What if the super Mario bros movie was longer?
Any of these I would be excited to see
What if Disney’s Strange World was better!
I know this is just fanfic, but the voice acting is actually really great in this! They sound very comparable to the originals
I can definitely appreciate Tiana being an actual black princess without having to be a frog for 89% of her own movie…
This version would probably get the same reception as the original, but I like how the characters are better handled here!
Exactly but some people aren't impressed with the idea of having a black character being a human instead of an animal due to *coughs* racism
I admit, the ending's too cliche, but I like how your rewrite develops most if the characters.
this plot of what if Tiana wasn't a frog would make a good live action remake and hey it would better then the trash ones except for the jungle book 2016 that was awesome

Princess and the Frog is a top 3 Disney movie for me and I absolutely love this video.
Good God, you definitely knocked it out of the park with this one. Love it!
Huh. So in this iteration, Tiana and Naveen basically founded Chuck E. Cheese.
🤣🤣🤣
Here are some suggestions:

Or the Utroms were in TMNT secret of the Ooze

Honestly, fans tend to make better content of their favorite things than the actual creators. I suppose it's because fans put a lot of time, love, and effort into the projects they take on. 😁
“Fans tend to make better content of their favorite things than the actual creators.”
Spider Man Lotus:
No.
Fans usually also don't have a producer breathing down their necks telling them to change this or that because it'll sell better
(On the other hand, can we just get a proper drawing of the scenes that weren't drawn? Like this edit right here: 15:16 I would've loved to have seen how these spirits drag down the sugar baron, they'd need at least an extra 4 hands.)

I definitely agree with this for two reasons.
1. Because it actually makes more sense
2. Tiana's transformation has traumatized me ;-;
I'm gonna go with, different.
I love this Disney fan fiction story!
Also cool how this version would better fit a splash mountain overlay with the swamp animal band

This is great! For the next one could you do a Fanscription of Christopher Reeves' Superman and Michael Keaton's Batman? You could call it: "Batman and Superman: World's finest".
I bet Malcolm cosplayed as Facilier once XD
yeah, in the review
As a matter of fact, he did.
If you haven’t seen Doug’s review of this movie, I would recommend that you do.
One reason is because Malcolm not only dresses as Dr. Facilier, but also gets to put in his two cents on the movie’s depiction of Creole culture, given that he comes from a Creole background.
How come human Diana understands the firefly and the gator?
Yet that's not what happened at all and her being a frog doesn't change ANYTHING. 🤦♀️
I love how you restored the golden ball from the fairytale!
If Walt Disney was resurrected back to life, I'd think he'd hire you guys as his main writers
Love it 🥰
The next story would be :
What if Rapunzel was the villain. 🤔
Everyone pull up a chair and grab some gumbo!
Gotta love how you made a light spirit not some ethereal ghost, but a natural source of light. Like how a shadow is a natural source of darkness.
I don't like The Barron being a villain, but everything else was gold.
"Do you think I want to spend the rest of my life pretending to be married to Lawrence." 😂
Nice work. This story is really cool without the hill-billys being randomly thrown in.
What?! Is it the uneven hips? because I can fix that!
How do so many of these Disney Fanscription videos seem better than the original bc this was amazing
